Babson College BeaversNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS hosted the 3rd-ranked team in the nation, the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS yesterday in a game that shocked the nation. By Halftime the unranked Beavers had compiled a 36-28 lead and didn’t let up in the 2nd Half, notching a 71-62 upset win when all was said and done. Babson was led by Joey Flannery with 20 points.

castleton_logo2YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! – The CASTLETON STATE COLLEGE SPARTANS scored an unbelievable ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN points yesterday! The Spartans were on the road against the GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE EAGLES and scored 78 points in the FIRST HALF ALONE for a 38 point Halftime lead! That point total would have been enough to win an entire game in many instances but Castleton State was just warming up and went back home with a 137-97 win.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM JANUARY 10th AND 11th

Environ Science and Forestry Mighty OaksTHE MIGHTY OAKS RULE THE WORLD – The COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND FORESTRY out of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) traveled to take on the NCAA’s ALFRED STATE PIONEERS. At Halftime the upstart Mighty Oaks led 43-39 but by the end of regulation the Pioneers had tied it all up at 75 apiece. The score stood at 85-85 at the end of the first Overtime but the second Overtime ended with the Mighty Oaks eking out a 96-95 upset win.

Amherst Lord Jeffs logoTOP 25 UPSETS – The 8th ranked AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS welcomed their archrivals, the number 5 WILLIAMS COLLEGE EPHS (“eephs”) and wound up toppling them 84-73. In the end the Cougars went back home with a 127-120 victory   ###   Also in Double Overtime the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS defeated the visiting HASKELL INDIAN NATIONS UNIVERSITY INDIANS by a score of 112-105.

Bethany Swedes logoTHE BAHAMA HOUSE SHOOTOUT – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES took on the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS in the semifinals of this tournament yesterday. The Swedes put up 92 points to the 82 scored by the Trojans   ###   And in the other semifinal the top-ranked host school, the EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES came out on top in an 82-60 affair against the CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TIGERS.

Stevens Point Pointers logo1NUMBER ONE CONTINUES TO ROLL – The top-ranked team in the nation, the UW-STEVENS POINT POINTERS faced a dire threat yesterday from the WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES. Whitworth actually led the venerable Pointers at Halftime by a score of 45-43 but Stevens Point came out in the 2nd Half focused and ready to play. When all was said and done the Pointers improved to 9-0 with a 93-75 victory.

The Wolfpack improved to 15-11 with two more games left in their regular season. NOTEWORTHY COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND HOCKEY RESULTS: FEBRUARY 9TH

Valley City StateVALLEY CITY STATE RULES THE WORLD – The NAIA’s 19th ranked VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS played the role of giant-killers yesterday. The Vikings hosted NCAA Division TWO’s SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS and brought them down in an epic 61-55 clash.

For newbies to these divisions this is like a D2 hoops team upsetting a D1 team. NAIA football teams often topple NCAA D2 teams and their basketball teams prove they’re more than capable of such upsets, too. Valley City State improves to 20-6 with the win and have emerged with a victory in 5 out of their last 6 games.

George Fox BruinsNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The unranked GEORGE FOX BRUINS took it on the road and managed to defeat the number 3 team in the nation, the WHITWORTH PIRATES, by a score of 89-81.
