Viterbo V-HawksMIDWEST COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE – The top two seeds in this conference – the VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS and the AIB COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EAGLES – were the last teams standing in this tournament. The top seeded V-Hawks (love that name) absolutely hammered the Eagles 9-0 to take the title.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE V-HAWKS, THE MCC CHAMPIONS FOR 2014.

point universityAPPALACHIAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – On Day Two for this conference tournament the 6th seeded POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS defeated the 7th seeded MILLIGAN COLLEGE BUFFALOES in a 3-0 shutout   ###   The 4th seeded ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS eliminated the 8th seeded VIRGINIA INTERMONT COLLEGE COBRAS, likewise in a 3-0 blanking   ###   Meanwhile the 5 seeds – the BRYAN (TN) LIONS shocked the nation with a TWENTY-THREE to SIX annihilation of the top seeded TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS    ###   And the 2nd seeded REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES bounced the disappointing 3 seeds – the UNION(KY) BULLDOGS 12-9 in the proverbial “0-2 and a barbecue”.  Continue reading

MORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPS CROWNED PLUS OTHER COLLEGE BASEBALL ACTION

William Woods OwlsAMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE – The top seeded MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS advanced to the title game by eliminating the 4th seeded FREED HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS by a score of 4-2   ###   And in the second game the 3rd seeded WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS mauled and mangled the Spartans in a 10-0 laugher. Along the way the Owls also defeated Park University and Lyon College.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE OWLS, THE AMC CHAMPS FOR 2014. 

Basic CMYKASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – The Cinderella 6 seeds – the HOUSTON- VICTORIA JAGUARS – continued dancing their way through the opening game yesterday by shocking the 2nd seeded LSU- ALEXANDRIA GENERALS  4-1   ###   But in the championship game that followed midnight finally struck in the form of the top seeded GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES who smacked the Jaguars back down to Earth ELEVEN to NOTHING. MORE COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT ACTION – MAY 4th

Bacone Warriors logoRED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The top seeded LSU- SHREVEPORT PILOTS (riverboat pilots) eliminated the 5th seeded TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS by a score of 13-9 to advance to the title game   ###   In that title game the 3 seeds – the BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS – defeated the Pilots in a 7-4 thriller. Along the way the Warriors also defeated Jarvis Christian College.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS, THE RRAC CHAMPS FOR 2014. 

British Columbia ThunderbirdsCALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE/ CASCADE CONFERENCE COMBINE – In the 2 spot the CONCORDIA (OR) CAVALIERS defeated the 3rd seeded CORBAN UNIVERSITY WARRIORS  4-2 in order to move on to the championship game   ###   Then the top seeded UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA THUNDERBIRDS went on to beat those Cavaliers 4-1 for the crown. Along the way the Thunderbirds also took out Menlo College and Corban University.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA THUNDERBIRDS, THE CPC/ CC CHAMPS FOR 2014.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM MAY 3rd

Huntington College Foresters logoCROSSROADS LEAGUE – In a THIRTEEN INNING marathon the 4th seeded HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY FORESTERS at last emerged with a 3-2 victory over the 5th seeded ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS   ###   The 7th seeded MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS had the upset of the day by bringing down the 2 seeds – the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS – in a 9-8 Instant Classic   ###   The top seeded MT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY COUGARS nearly doubled- up on the 8th seeded GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS  11-6   ###   And the 6th seeded INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS got drubbed by the 3rd seeded SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY COUGARS in a 10-0 laugher.

Viterbo V-HawksMIDWEST COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE – The top seeded VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS (how can you not love that name) had their hands full with the 4th seeded WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN but prevailed 2-0   ###   The 2nd seeded AIB COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EAGLES (who should change their name to the Magnates) had to hang on themselves to win a 2-1 epic of the diamond with the 3rd seeded ST AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES   ### And the (4) Statesmen notched a 1-1 record for the day by defeating the 5th seeded GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS  7-1.    Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

PARKPIRATESAMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE – Day Two of the AMC tourney yesterday saw the 6th seeded PARK UNIVERSITY PIRATES avoid elimination by inflicting that fate on the 7th seeded MID-CONTINENT UNIVERSITY COUGARS instead in a 6-1 spanking   ###   The 4th seeded FREED- HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS meanwhile eliminated the 8 seeds – the HANNIBAL- LAGRANGE TROJANS by a blowout score of 10-0   ###   The top seeded MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS shut out the 5th seeded BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY AT SPRINGFIELD BULLDOGS  5-0   ###   And in the 3 spot the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS upset the 2nd seeded LYON COLLEGE SCOTS by an unbelievable THIRTEEN TO FOUR!

LSU-Alexandria GeneralsASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – On the first day of this conference’s tournament the 2nd seeded LSU- ALEXANDRIA GENERALS hammered the 5th seeded LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX into submission by a score of 10-3   ###   Meanwhile the top seeded GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES trounced the 6 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON AT VICTORIA JAGUARS to the tune of ELEVEN to ONE   ###   And in a 4 seed over 3 seed upset the FISHER COLLEGE FALCONS took down the CAL STATE- SAN MARCOS COUGARS in a 3-1 Instant Classic.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM MAY 1st

* GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

Mount Marty LancersMORNING GAMES – The 7th seeded MOUNT MARTY COLLEGE LANCERS shocked the country yesterday with their SEVENTEEN to FIVE lambasting of the 2nd seeded NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS. The Lancers led 3-1 at the end of the 1st Inning and never looked back enroute to this colossal upset.   ###  

Briar Cliff University Chargers logoAnd speaking of shockers the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS came in as the 8 seeds but toppled the TOP SEEDED DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS  3-1!  ###   The 5th seeded DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS kept the upset mojo going by beating the 4th seeded MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS in an 8-1 buttkicking.   ###   And the 3rd seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS were the only higher seed to win in the morning games. The Warriors eviscerated the 6th seeded HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS to the tune of ELEVEN to ONE!

Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders logoEVENING GAMES – The (2) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS bounced back from their morning loss and won a 1-0 pitcher’s duel to eliminate the (6) HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS. A 4th Inning run was the game’s only offensive production.   ###   Meanwhile the (4) MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS sent the incredibly disappointing top seeds – the DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS – home with their 8-7 win in an Instant Classic.   ###   The (3) MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS won a 7-4 thriller over the (7) MOUNT MARTY COLLEGE LANCERS.   ###   And the (5) DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS also went 2-0 for the day with an 8-3 triumph over the (8) BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM APRIL 30th

* SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

PrintUPSET OF THE DAY – The SSAC’s 8th seeded AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY WARHAWKS (formerly the Senators) delivered the shock of the day yesterday. The Warhawks rose up and dragged down the conference’s top seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES in an undeniable Instant Classic. The Eagles were leading 2-0 going into the top of the 8th Inning when the Warhawk bats came to life, seizing a 4-2 lead. Faulkner, the defending national champions of NAIA college baseball, pulled to 4-3 in their half of the Inning and AUM responded by adding another run in the top of the 9th. The Warhawks limited the Eagles to just 1 run themselves in the bottom of the Inning and nabbed a 5-4 victory! AUM’s P.J. Leto got the win!  

brewtonparkerTHEY HAD ‘EM ALL THE WAY! – With apologies to the late baseball broadcaster Bob Prince. The 2nd seeded BREWTON- PARKER COLLEGE BARONS well and truly had their First Round opponents – the 7th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE RAMS – all the way. A 2-0 lead after the 1st Inning became 3-0 after the 2nd, 4-0 after the 5th and 6-0 after the 6th! The Rams finally got on the board in the top of the 8th Inning with a pair of runs but the Barons added another run of their own to make it 7-2, which would hold up as the final score! COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON ACTION CONTINUES

El Camino College logoSO-CAL DIVISION: PLAY-IN ROUND – GAME ONE – The game of the day yesterday was this classic of the diamond played between the 17th seeded EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS and the 16th seeded MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES. After two scoreless Innings the Warriors put up a run in the top of the 3rd with the Mounties eventually tying things up in the bottom of the 6th. El Camino College responded with another run of their own in the top of the 7th Inning and rode that ball to a 2-1 victory. Credit Andrew Burschinger with the win.  

66_eastlosangeleslogo.GIF (120×160) SO-CAL DIVISION: PLAY-IN ROUND – GAME TWO – This game pitted the 15th seeded EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES against the 18 seeds – the COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd Inning but by the bottom of the 3rd the Huskies had tied the game up. In the 5th and 7th Innings College of the Canyons logged a pair of runs to make it a 4-2 Cougar advantage. In the bottom of the 7th East Los Angeles College again knotted up the game. After the Cougars went on top again 5-4 in the top of the 8th the Huskies used their half of the Inning to take their first lead of the game at 6-5, which turned out to be the final score, too. East L.A.’s closer Shawn Kennedy got the win.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL: NAIA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS DAY TWO

Point Park U PioneersThe Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s 2014 tourney entered Day Two yesterday. The top seeded POINT PARK UNIVERSITY PIONEERS joined the fun and took the diamond against the 4th seeded BEREA COLLEGE MOUNTAINEERS. The two teams were tied up at 1-1 after the 1st Inning and remained in that state of affairs until the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead in the 4th. A big 5th inning for Point Park saw them notch 3 additional runs and with another run in the 8th for them plus a Berea run in the 7th the final score was Pioneers 6  Mountaineers 2. Manny Perdomo got the win with an 8 Inning performance for PPU.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL RESULTS FROM APRIL 19th

Clermont CougarsUC-CLERMONT RULES THE WORLD – The USCAA’s UNIVERSITY OF CINCINATTI AT CLERMONT COUGARS didn’t just upset the NCAA’s WILMINGTON COLLEGE QUAKERS, they completely dismembered them and burned the remains. A 2-2 tie in the 2nd Inning became a 9-2 lead for the Cougars by the time the 3rd Inning was over. UCC never looked back from there, going on to total the Quakers by a final score of 12-2.

Alfred State Pioneers logoTHE ULTIMATE PITCHER’S DUEL – Ryan Hedges from the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS took on Derek Harkin from the SUNY- CANTON KANGAROOS in the most exciting battle of the mounds from yesterday’s action. The Kangaroos gave up one run in the opening Inning and that turned out to be all the scoring for the entire game! The Pioneers went home with a 1-0 victory. Continue reading
