MARCH MADNESS: NAIA, NCCAA AND NJCAA TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

NCCAA DIV ONE

Southwestern Christian U EaglesFIRST SEMIFINAL – This first clash of the Final Four teams saw the top seeded SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Aguilas) duking it out with the 4 seeds – the CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE OF KANSAS TIGERS.

The Eagles, determined to prove that THEIR team name is even more overused than Tigers, led their opponents 33-29 at Halftime. From there Southwestern Christian University outscored Central Christian College of Kansas 34-32 for a 67-61 trip to the Championship Game. Fifteen points from Shawn Scott led the Bulldogs Wildcats Eagles. 

Emmanuel College Lions logoSECOND SEMIFINAL – The 2 seeds – the EMMANUEL COLLEGE LIONS – and the 6th seeded BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS fought it out for the other slot in the title tilt.

The Lions quickly made sure the Rambling Rams had no illusions about winning, as they slapped them down hard with a 42-24 lead by the break. In the 2nd Half Emmanuel College could relax and coast all the way to a 78-56 triumph. Emerson McClung led the Lions with his 25 points. 

NJCAA DIV THREE

Columbus State Comm Coll CougarsFINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The 5th seeded COLUMBUS STATE COLLEGE COUGARS took on the 4 seeds – the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS.

By Halftime the Cougars had laid the groundwork for this minor Upset, leading the Generals 41-36. From there Columbus State College outscored Herkimer College 50-40 to win the game by a final tally of 91-76. Matthew Gierhart tossed in 18 points for the victors. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NCCAA AND NAIA DIVISION ONE TOURNEYS PLUS MORE

Bluefield Rambling Rams logoFINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The 6th seeded BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS went up against the 3 seeds – the MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS.

The Rambling Rams were feeling it and put the Evangels on Upset Alert at Halftime with their 35-31 lead. After the break Bluefield College intensified their efforts, limiting Mid-America Christian University to just 27 points while putting up 39 themselves. The final score was Rambling Rams 74  Evangels 58. Seventeen points from Jermiah (middle name “sic”) Jenkins led Bluefield. 

Emmanuel College Lions logoFINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – Up next the 2 seeds – the EMMANUEL COLLEGE LIONS – battled the 7th seeded COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS.

The 1st Half ended with the Lions clinging to a 39-34 edge. From there Emmanuel College kicked things up a notch on both sides of the ball, putting more and more distance between themselves and the Bobcats. In the end the Lions defeated the College of the Ozarks 80-63 led by Elijah Robinson’s 18 points. Continue reading

NAIA2 CHAMPS CROWNED PLUS MORE POSTSEASON COLLEGE BASKETBALL

NAIA DIV TWO

Indiana Wesleyan WildcatsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The lone 1 seeds remaining – the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS – clashed with the 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS COUGARS in a title tilt that I know regular readers are assuming I’ll label “a catfight.”

The Wildcats – trying for their 3rd National Championship in the last 5 years – led the Cougars 40-29 by Halftime. From there Indiana Wesleyan University kept USF at a distance, ultimately emerging with an 84-71 victory. Kyle Mangas once again led the Wildcats, this time with 23 points.  * THE WILDCATS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NAIA DIVISION TWO

Coffeyvlle%20-%20RavensDISTRICT 6: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The Top Two seeds in this District met in the title game for the Championship AND the automatic bid to the National Tournament. The (1) COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS faced the (2) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS.

The score was deadlocked at 40-40 by the midpoint of the game. The 2nd Half was just as tight and competitive, but in the end the Red Ravens snuck by the Blue Dragons by a final count of 82-80. Travis Washington’s 19 points led Coffeyville College.  * THE RED RAVENS ARE CHAMPIONS OF DISTRICT 6 * Continue reading

NAIA FINAL FOUR ACTION AND MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

NAIA DIV TWO

Indiana Wesleyan WildcatsFIRST SEMIFINAL – A battle of 1 seeds started us off as the (1) INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS played the (1) INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST RED WOLVES.

This battle royal featured the Wildcats clinging to a 37-35 edge over the Red Wolves at Halftime and ultimately holding on by their fingernails for a 75-72 victory. Kyle Mangas of Indiana Wesleyan University led his team to the Championship Game with 20 points.  Continue reading

NJCAA AND OTHER COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ACTION

NJCAA DIV THREE

Herkimer Generals logo BIGDISTRICT 301: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2 seeds – the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS – faced down the Cinderella 8th seeded FULTON-MONTGOMERY COLLEGE RAIDERS.

At Halftime the Raiders were up 35-31 but after the break the Generals made their move. Herkimer College came storming back for a 74-64 victory led by Teshaun Beckles’ 17 points. * THE GENERALS ARE CHAMPIONS OF DISTRICT 301

Brookdale College Jersey BluesDISTRICT 306: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded BROOKDALE COLLEGE JERSEY BLUES took on the 3rd seeded CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES for this District Title.

An Instant Classic of an opening Half ended with the Jersey Blues on top 36-35. From there Brookdale College managed a little more room for themselves enroute to a 70-62 triumph. Grant Goode led the Jersey Blues with a Double Double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. * THE JERSEY BLUES ARE CHAMPIONS OF DISTRICT 306 * Continue reading

NCCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPS CROWNED, NAIA FINAL FOUR SET

Randall University Saints NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – It was a Chalk Championship Game with the top two seeds facing each other. The 1 seeds – the two-time Defending Champions – the RANDALL UNIVERSITY SAINTS played the 2nd seeded BOB JONES UNIVERSITY BRUINS.

Points flew like shrapnel in the 1st Half, which ended with the Saints on top of the Bruins by a count of 52-44. After the break Bob Jones University came storming back and grabbed a 76-75 lead with roughly 6 minutes to play. Randall University refused to say die and rallied for an 86-84 victory led by Trey Sneed’s THIRTY points.  * THE SAINTS ARE NCCAA2 CHAMPIONS

NAIA DIV TWO

Indiana East Red WolvesFINAL FOUR, FIRST BERTH – One of the 1 seeds – the INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST RED WOLVES – did battle with the 3rd seeded BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS.

The Red Wolves pulled out to a 41-33 Halftime lead over the Chargers. Both teams notched 35 points in the 2nd Half, making the final tally for the game Indiana University East 76  Briar Cliff University 68. Jaylen McKay tossed in 19 points to lead the Red Wolves. Continue reading

NCCAA FINAL FOUR ACTION, NAIA ELITE EIGHT SET

NCCAA DIV TWO

Bob Jones University BruinsFIRST SEMIFINAL – In this game the 2 seeds – the BOB JONES UNIVERSITY BRUINS – fought it out with the 3rd seeded GRACE BIBLE COLLEGE TIGERS.

With just 3 minutes left in the 1st Half the Tigers held a 39-38 lead, but the Bruins managed a 9-0 run to go into Halftime on top by a score of 47-39. After the break the points continued to fly like shrapnel, with Bob Jones University triumphing over Grace Bible College 94-84 for their first trip to the title game. 

*** The Bruins’ Nate Ellenwood led his team with a TRIPLE DOUBLE of THIRTY-FOUR points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds. Continue reading

NCCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS BEGIN, NAIA CONTINUES

Johnson (TN) RoyalsDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4 seeds – the JOHNSON UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE ROYALS – took the court against the 5th seeded MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS.

The Royals had things well in hand by the break with a 51-31 advantage over the Sabercats. Coming out of the locker room Johnson University of Tennessee kept up the pace until garbage time, bouncing Maranatha Baptist University by a final score of 90-73.

Randall University Saints NEWDAY ONE, GAME TWO – Up next the top seeded Defending National Champions – the RANDALL UNIVERSITY SAINTS – clashed with the 8th seeded KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS.

Kentucky Christian University was really feeling it and had the Saints faithful worried at Halftime with their 39-36 edge over the top seeds. In the 2nd Half Randall University showed the Heart of a Champion and outscored the Knights 42-38 for a tight 78-77 win. Kashus Lyons scored 24 points for RU. Continue reading

ACCA COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPS CROWNED, NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT BEGINS

Arlington Baptist PatriotsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The ARLINGTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS and the KANSAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE FALCONS were the last two teams left in the battle for the national title of the ACCA.

The Patriots showed their advantage in postseason experience, notching a 43-35 lead by Halftime. From there the Falcons fought hard to make a comeback and Arlington Baptist University had to hold on tight to survive with an 87-84 victory. Quinton Moore led the Patriots with 27 points. * THE PATRIOTS ARE ACCA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS *

NAIA DIVISION TWO

Southwestern College Moundbuilders logoDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4 seed versus 5 seed game in this National Tournament pitted the (4) SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS against the (5) ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS.

The Moundbuilders had their Defense clicking and prevented the Lakers from reaching 30 points in either Half. Southwestern College led 31-27 by the midpoint of the game and after the break outscored Roosevelt University 34-28 for a 65-55 triumph. Fourteen points from Cameron Hunt led the Moundbuilders. ACCA SEMIFINALS AND MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL ACTION

Arlington Baptist PatriotsFIRST SEMIFINAL – The ARLINGTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS faced the UNIVERSITY OF LOS ANGELES COLLEGE OF DIVINITY CUBS.

A tight opening Half ended with the Patriots on top of the Cubs by a score of 37-33. After the break Arlington Baptist University was able to put a little bit more distance between themselves and ULA-College of Divinity, winning the game 77-69. Quinton Moore notched 19 points to lead the Patriots. Continue reading
