CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The lone remaining 1 seed – the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS – battled the 3rd seeded NORTHERN STATE WOLVES for the NCAA Division Two title.
A fierce, furious opening Half ended with the Bulldogs clinging to a 39-37 edge over the Wolves. The 2nd Half saw the two teams put up exactly 32 points each, as Ferris State won their first ever National Championship by a score of 71-69. NJCAA DIV ONE
FIRST SEMIFINAL – The 10 seeds – the COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN IDAHO GOLDEN EAGLES – set out to drag down the 3rd seeded VINCENNES UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS in this game.
The Golden Eagles were pursuing the Trailblazers at Halftime as they trailed them 49-36. The College of Southern Idaho regrouped in the locker room and came out ready for action, outscoring Vincennes University 44-25 from there. The final tally was Golden Eagles 80 Trailblazers 74. NJCAA DIV ONE
FINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – This battle of Cinderellas pitted the 13th seeded SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE TEXANS against the 12 seeds – the CONNORS STATE COWBOYS.
The Texans seemed in control of the game with a 50-32 lead at Halftime. After the break, however, the Cowboys came alive and South Plains College wound up having to fight to survive an 80-75 thriller. Christopher Orlina of the Texans notched a Double Double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
FINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – Up next the 3 seeds – the VINCENNES UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS – struck a blow for Chalk in their battle with the 6th seeded FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE BUCCANEERS.
By the break the Trailblazers held a 32-26 advantage over the Buccaneers. From there Vincennes University kept Florida Southwestern State at arm’s length the rest of the way, sneaking a bit more breathing room for a 76-68 triumph. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES – a team Balladeer’s Blog has covered since their NAIA years – did battle with the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT OSHKOSH TITANS for the D3 title.
A thrilling and high-scoring 1st Half ended with the Prairie Wolves clinging to a 45-43 edge. After the break Nebraska Wesleyan University inched a little bit more away from the Titans, winning it all by a score of 78-72. NJCAA DIV THREE
DISTRICT 301: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2 seeds – the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS – faced down the Cinderella 8th seeded FULTON-MONTGOMERY COLLEGE RAIDERS.
At Halftime the Raiders were up 35-31 but after the break the Generals made their move. Herkimer College came storming back for a 74-64 victory led by Teshaun Beckles’ 17 points. * THE GENERALS ARE CHAMPIONS OF DISTRICT 301 *
DISTRICT 306: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded BROOKDALE COLLEGE JERSEY BLUES took on the 3rd seeded CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES for this District Title.
An Instant Classic of an opening Half ended with the Jersey Blues on top 36-35. From there Brookdale College managed a little more room for themselves enroute to a 70-62 triumph. FIRST SEMIFINAL – The ARLINGTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS faced the UNIVERSITY OF LOS ANGELES COLLEGE OF DIVINITY CUBS.
A tight opening Half ended with the Patriots on top of the Cubs by a score of 37-33. After the break Arlington Baptist University was able to put a little bit more distance between themselves and ULA-College of Divinity, winning the game 77-69. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 4 seeds – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – took the court against the 6th seeded EASTERN FLORIDA STATE TITANS for the NJCAA Division One title.
The Blue Dragons went straight for the jugular with a 21-4 run to start the game and by Halftime led the Titans by a score of 39-16. (Yes, sixteen.) After the break Hutchinson College coasted to an 84-58 victory to earn their 3rd hoops crown.
