March Madness continues here at Balladeer’s Blog with a look at the District champs in the NJCAA Division Three.
NORTH ATLANTIC DISTRICT – The BROOKDALE COLLEGE JERSEY BLUES battled the NORTHAMPTON COLLEGE SPARTANS for this District title. By Halftime the underdog Jersey Blues were on top 46-38, and from there they maintained separation from the Spartans for a 90-84 victory. Darnell Askew led Brookdale College with a Double Double of 26 points and 14 rebounds. * THE JERSEY BLUES ARE NORTH ATLANTIC DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
MIDATLANTIC DISTRICT – The last two teams standing in this District were the SANDHILLS COLLEGE FLYERS and the BUTLER COUNTY COLLEGE PIONEERS. The Flyers held a comfortable 53-36 advantage at Halftime. After the break, Sandhills kept up the pressure, ultimately defeating the Pioneers by a Century Club score of 114-91. Joey McMullin’s 22 points led the victors, & his teammate Jaquan Thurman logged a Double Double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. * THE FLYERS ARE MIDATLANTIC DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
NORTH DISTRICT – This title tilt pitted the FULTON-MONTGOMERY COLLEGE RAIDERS against the MOHAWK VALLEY COLLEGE HAWKS (should be the Mohawks). The Raiders were chasing Mohawk Valley College at the midpoint by a score of 43-36. From there FMC came from behind for an 89-82 triumph. Nahjime Kirton registered a Double Double of 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Raiders. Kennyh Hardeman also had a Double Double, his for 14 points and 12 rebounds. * THE RAIDERS ARE NORTH DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
SOUTH CENTRAL DISTRICT – The DALLAS COLLEGE AT NORTH LAKE BLAZERS took the court to face the RICHLANDS COLLEGE THUNDER DUCKS. The Blazers dominated the Thunder Ducks all the way, leading them by a Halftime score of 49-30 before putting them away 90-63. Darion Jones of DC-North Lake tossed in 25 points to lead his team. * THE BLAZERS ARE SOUTH CENTRAL DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
EAST DISTRICT – Up next, the NORTHERN ESSEX COMMUNITY COLLEGE KNIGHTS played the ROXBURY COLLEGE TIGERS. The Knights converted a 42-31 advantage at the Half into a 91-76 victory. Leading Northern Essex in scoring was Jonathan Lingisi-Ombango with 24 points. Two other Knights had Double Doubles – Mehmet Asik with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Luis Reynoso with 11 points and 12 rebounds. * THE KNIGHTS ARE EAST DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
GREAT LAKES DISTRICT – The underdog COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS found themselves facing the MADISON COLLEGE WOLFPACK for the District crown. The Chaparrals delivered a surprise, being far out in front of the Wolfpack by a count of 41-28 at the break. From there, the College of DuPage coasted to an 85-69 win. Twenty-one points from Drew Gaston led the victors. * THE CHAPARRALS ARE GREAT LAKES DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
NORTHEAST DISTRICT – In this game the DUTCHESS COUNTY COLLEGE FALCONS did battle with the NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS. The opening Half was a defensive epic, with the Halftime score being just 25-21 in favor of the Falcons. After the break, Dutchess County College left the Lions even further behind, ultimately winning the game 68-61. Jacob Barnett led DuPage with his Double Double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. * THE FALCONS ARE NORTHEAST DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
NORTH PLAINS DISTRICT – We have the ROCHESTER (MN) TECHNICAL COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS clashing with the MINNESOTA NORTH COLLEGE AT MESABI RANGE NORSE. The Yellow Jackets were out in front 45-36 at the midpoint and when the dust settled they had defeated the Norse by a final tally of 79-69. Kameron Givens tossed in 29 points to lead Rochester, and his teammate Peyton Dunham logged a Double Double of 14 points and 18 rebounds. * THE YELLOW JACKETS ARE NORTH PLAINS DISTRICT CHAMPIONS *
