FOOLKILLER 12: INQUEST

Foolkiller holding, then aiming his gunWith superhero movies dominating pop culture these days Balladeer’s Blog’s “Script Doctoring” of Marvel’s handling of Foolkiller continues with Part Twelve.

In this installment I rewrite The Defenders # 87. After many teasers regarding the secrets behind Foolkiller’s Purification Gun and the unusual fabric of his costume I start revealing the answers.

I also revise the whole premise behind the Tribunal running the Inquest since, ultimately, even the apocalyptic revelations of the Elf With A Handgun were dismissed as a “hoax” by Dr Strange. And some of you have commented on how awkward you find the nom de guerre “Foolkiller” but since the name was based on the figure from 19th Century American folklore, it won’t be altered.    Continue reading

FOOLKILLER 11: D-DAY ON KIBER ISLAND

Foolkiller hands on hips

So Foolkiller walks into a bar and the bartender says “Hey, buddy … Why the long neck?” Oh, wait – that’s all wrong.

Since it’s the superhero film time of the year Balladeer’s Blog’s “Script Doctoring” of Marvel’s handling of Foolkiller continues with Part Eleven.

This time around I rewrite all of The Defenders # 86 and bring my war between Wakanda and Atlantis to a close.

There are also new revelations about Foolkiller’s Purification Gun as his time with the Defenders rapidly nears its end.  Continue reading

Summer brings superhero films so in that spirit Balladeer’s Blog’s “Script Doctoring” of Marvel’s handling of Foolkiller continues with Part Ten.

I rewrite virtually the entire story again this time around as The Defenders # 85 is on the schedule. My war between Wakanda and Atlantis proceeds, with Foolkiller (Greg Salinger) and the other Defenders caught in the middle. Will a certain Latverian dictator also get into the act? Continue reading

FOOLKILLER 9: WAR BETWEEN WAKANDA AND ATLANTIS

In recognition of all the summer superhero films Balladeer’s Blog’s “Script Doctoring” of Marvel’s handling of Foolkiller continues with Part Nine.

This time around my script-doctoring extends to virtually the entire issue of The Defenders # 84. It’s easy to see why this comic book was financially iffy by this point. In researching these stories for this series of blog posts I couldn’t believe how many issues ended with readers probably thinking “So, did anything really happen this month? Well, no … Again.”

In this particular installment I rewrite the whole damn book to present the breakout of a war between Marvel’s two greatest hidden realms – the Black Panther’s Wakanda and Namor’s Atlantis – with Foolkiller and the rest of the Defenders caught in the middle.  Continue reading

My alternate treatment of Foolkiller this time around features a Marvel Team-Up with Spider-Man.

These blog posts have proven so popular that Stan Lee is ALREADY stealing credit for having written them. Continue reading

FOOLKILLER 7: ROCKETEERS & INQUISITORS

ART ERROR: Foolkiller was drawn without his red hat-sash but with a cape (?) in this issue of Omega the Unknown.

Since the world remains crazed for super-heroes, Balladeer’s Blog’s “Script Doctoring” of Marvel’s handling of Foolkiller continues with Part Seven. FOR PART ONE OF THIS ARTICLE CLICK  HERE

Out of storytelling necessity most of the attention was off of Foolkiller last time around. This time it’s back to further hints about his mysterious Purification Gun and the unusual material his costume is made of. Plus some evidence that having a more positive outlet for his violent tendencies has stabilized his mind in other areas.

Here are my alternate treatments of Defenders # 82 and 83.   Continue reading

FOOLKILLER: DEFENDERS NUMBER 79

Summer means superhero movies, so Balladeer’s Blog’s “Script Doctoring” of Marvel’s handling of Foolkiller continues with Part Five. FOR PART ONE OF THIS ARTICLE CLICK  HERE

More hints about my backstory for Foolkiller’s Purification Gun as I outline this alternate version of Defenders # 79as the team continues fighting Mandrill, Fem-Force and Mutant Force.

DEFENDERS Vol 1: Number 79 – Chains of Love (Jan 1980)

Since having Hulk on the cover was always crucial for sales during this struggling period for The Defenders the cover featured Hulk, Dr Strange and Sub-Mariner in their dull Tunnelworld adventure. It’s more imitation Tolkien as the trio battle the Unnameable, a boring villain from the Unreadable (Ed Hannigan).

Back on Earth the other contingent of Defenders (Valkyrie, Yellowjacket, Hellcat, Foolkiller and the Wasp) are where we left them last time. Yellowjacket has already been captured and the others are surrounded by Fem-Force, the Mandrill’s all-female army, because Ruth and Amber – under the Mandrill’s pheremone-fueled control – betrayed them.   Continue reading

I’m dealing with Foolkiller’s role in Defenders number 78 this time out as they battle Mutant Force, Fem-Force and their leader the Mandrill. I throw in hints at the backstory I’ve devised for Foolkiller’s costume and Purification Gun, since Marvel never got around to addressing it.   Continue reading

Defenders 77 Waiting For ... WorldDEFENDERS Vol 1: Number 77 – WAITING FOR THE END OF THE WORLD  (Nov 1979)

A. Synopsis of the “real” story – The Defenders (Valkyrie, Hellcat, Moondragon and the Wasp), still puzzled about how Omega’s dead form and James Michael Starling’s live form switched places, arrive in Las Vegas.

James Michael escapes from the supervillainess Ruby before she can experiment on him. The Defenders encounter him shortly after his escape, but the pursuing Ruby and her monstrous creation Dibbuk arrive on Starling’s trail. A battle breaks out between the Defenders and the Ruby/Dubbuk pair in the heart of Las Vegas.

This fight becomes a three-way battle with the arrival of the Protarians in another squadron of spaceships. In all the resulting chaos Ruby and Dibbuk are defeated while Moondragon’s mind powers at last fill in all the blanks on Omega and James Michael Starling. Continue reading
