OH, GIVE ME A HOME WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM … – Last night the WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES hosted the CHADRON STATE COLLEGE EAGLES in one of the best games of the night. This Lone Star Conference versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference clash was a thrilling back and forth affair but when all was said and done the Buffaloes came out on top by a final score of 34-31.
LIONS, HAWKS AND A LIGHTNING DELAY – The MARS HILL COLLEGE LIONS traveled to Georgia to take on the SHORTER UNIVERSITY HAWKS in a game that suffered a lightning delay for more than an hour. The Hawks saw a 23-14 halftime lead evaporate in the 2nd half as the Lions retained their composure and stormed ahead for a 41-30 triumph. Things don’t get any easier for the 0-2 Hawks – their next opponents are D2’s defending champions, the VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS.
STUNG BY THE HORNETS – The EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY HORNETS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA- KEARNEY LOPERS last night. The Hornets struck swiftly, getting off to a very early lead and reducing the Lopers to endlessly playing catch-up for the Continue reading

Continuing the adventures of the Iroquois god of magic, Hodadeion.
PART 7 – THE TWIN HERONS – Hodadeion moved swiftly through the forest. He wanted to put as much space between himself and the giant horned serpents as possible before they grew hungry again. He continued heading north and at length came upon a pathway guarded by two enormous white herons. Each bird was bigger than a horse and at the sight of the demigod they attacked him, trying to claw and peck at him while simultaneously battering him with their powerful wings.
Hodadeion fled as quickly as Continue reading

ATOM SQUAD – No relation to Atom 12 (rimshot). This fun and campy science fiction/ spy series hybrid ran 5 days a week from 1953 – 1954 and was one of the many 15 minute-long television shows of the era. Anyone who enjoyed my earlier Forgotten Television Treasure titled Captain Z-Ro will no doubt love Atom Squad.
Scientists Steve Elliot and Dave Fielding ( Robert Courtleigh and Bob Hastings) worked for the title organization and defended America from Commies, mad doctors and extraterrestrials. The Atom Squad specialized in cases involving radiation and atomic weapons so the
outdated science and social attitudes on display are a HUGE part of the fun in this relic from the”duck and cover” days.
Elliot and Fielding are Continue reading

Special thanks once again to Balladeer’s Blog’s Official Movie Hostess, the spectacularly beautiful Casey James. When Casey isn’t busy breaking the hearts of countless men and women around the world she’s a fan of offbeat movies and has excellent taste in blogs. For more info on Casey read on:
SHINYA TSUKAMOTO – Our first director hails from Japan and is noted for his surreal, nightmarish excursions into the darker side of transformative industrial technology … especially any technology that impacts the human anatomy. Noteworthy films include:
Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) – From the early shots of a man removing one of his own bones and replacing it with a piece of metal viewers knew this was a work of true genius. Tetsuo becomes more and Continue reading

SILVERADO (1985) – I’ve never made any secret about how Silverado is, to me, THE official movie of the Frontierado holiday. The film has all the high spirits and family appeal of Star Wars plus the well-choreographed action scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark. On top of that Silverado features all the highly stylized gunplay of the best Spaghetti Westerns but NOT the mud, blood, sweat and brutality of that genre.
This movie is pure escapism and features
the kind of preternaturally accurate gunslingers that I jokingly describe as “Jedi Knights in the Olllld West”. These guys (as well as most of the villains) can literally shoot the needles off a cactus, simultaneously draw and shoot with pin-point accuracy and can just “sense” when some low-down hombre might be pulling a gun on them, even with Continue reading
