NAIA CHAMPIONS CROWNED PLUS MORE HOOPS TOURNAMENT ACTION

cornerstoneCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 3 seeds – the CORNERSTONE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES – rolled to their third National Championship and their second in the last four years. The 5th seeded DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS were contained by the Golden Eagles, who had their way with the Tigers on offense, too. By Halftime Cornerstone University was on top FORTY-TWO to TWENTY then coasted in the 2nd Half to a 66-45 triumph. Ben Lanning and Kyle Steigenga each had a Double Double for the Golden Eagles – Lanning with 24 points and 10 rebounds, Steigenga with 14 points and 11 rebounds. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOLDEN EAGLES, THE 2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS OF NAIA2 BASKETBALL! *   Continue reading

NAIA FINAL FOUR ACTION AND MORE POSTSEASON RESULTS

Dakota Wesleyan logoFINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – The first of last night’s two Final Four clashes pitted the 5 seeds – the DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS – against the 8th seeded DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Tigers made it clear to the Cinderella Panthers that it was LONG past midnight, leading them 43-29 by Halftime on their way to an 80-51 blowout win. TWO MORE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS WON PLUS MORE POSTSEASON ACTION

* NJCAA DIVISION THREE *

Richland College Thunder ducksCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The last two teams standing in NJCAA Division Three hoops were, appropriately enough – the top two seeds. The 2nd seeds – the RICHLAND COLLEGE THUNDER DUCKS – took on the number 1 seeded ROCK VALLEY COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES. At Halftime it looked as if the Golden Eagles would be joining their women’s team as National Champions since the men held a 35-27 lead over the Thunder Ducks. Richland College regrouped in the locker room then mounted a comeback for the ages, ultimately winning the game by a final score of 67-64. ANOTHER CHAMPION CROWNED AMID MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Lancaster Bible College Chargers NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The title game in the 2nd Division of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) was played between the 2 seeds – the LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE CHARGERS – and the Cinderella 8 seeds – the HILLSDALE FREE WILL BAPTIST COLLEGE SAINTS. The Chargers forced the Saints to hear the chimes of midnight (for you Shakespeare fans), leading them 45-30 at Halftime enroute to a 78-65 National Championship win! Phil Carey once again led Lancaster Bible College with a Double Double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHARGERS, THE 2015 CHAMPIONS OF NCCAA DIVISION TWO BASKETBALL! *

Davenport PanthersFINAL FOUR – FIRST BERTH – The Defending Champions go down! The 8th seeded DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS stunned the top seeded Defending Champs of NAIA2 basketball – the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. An edge-of-your- seat 1st Half ended with the Wildcats on top by just 41-38 and the 2nd Half was just as close. With just 1:06 left to play the score stood at 75-75, the 12th tie of the game. The Panthers made their move and knocked off IWU by a final score of 79-75. Nick Gamble had 19 points to lead Davenport U. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS

Davis College FalconsBIBLE COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP – The NIT Bible College National Championship Game for 2015 pitted the DAVIS COLLEGE FALCONS against the TRINITY COLLEGE OF FLORIDA TIGERS. Falcons Coach Daniel Rathmell led his team to a 99-82 win and their THIRD Bible College National Championship. Davis College took the 2011 and 2013 titles as well.    

TODAY'S COOL-NAMED SPORTS TEAM: FRANKLIN AND MARSHALLUPSETS IN THE TOP TWELVE – The FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS welcomed the number 11 team in the nation – the DICKINSON COLLEGE RED DEVILS – and upset them by the authoritative score of 69-53. Franklin & Marshall College played smothering defense and led Dickinson 33-23 by Halftime, then never looked back. Morgan Lee led the Diplomats with 20 points. Both teams now have a record of 20-5.  

scranton royals logoOTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON ROYALS had the Long Center rocking as they toppled the 14th ranked CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY CARDINALS in an 83-71 beating. Brendan Boken’s Double-Double led the Royals with 22 points and 10 rebounds.     ###      Meanwhile the STEVENS TECH DUCKS upset the (16) ST JOHN FISHER CARDINALS in a 60-54 defensive epic     ###      And the ILLINOIS WESLEYAN TITANS smacked down the (21) ELMHURST COLLEGE BLUEJAYS to the tune of 96-66.       Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS

cobberleaningII%5B1%5DNUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – The CONCORDIA (Moorhead) COBBERS welcomed the number 2 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT THOMAS TOMMIES – on Saturday. The Cobbers faced a 40-31 deficit at Halftime but came back after the break to pull off the upset and hand the Tommies their second loss of the season. The final score was Cobbers 72  Tommies 66. Jordan Bolger led Concordia (Moorhead) with his 20 points and 9 rebounds as the team improved to 14-8.   

John Carroll Blue StreaksNUMBER THREE GETS TOPPLED, TOO – Meanwhile the JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS took the court against the visiting 3rd ranked MARIETTA COLLEGE PIONEERS. By Halftime the Blue Streaks had seized a hard-fought 50-45 edge on their way to an 86-71 triumph. David Linane tossed in 30 points to lead John Carroll University. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NCAA DIVISION TWO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

centralmissourimulesNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – You can call 2014 the Year of the Mule, at least in NCAA Division Two men’s basketball. This year’s title tilt came down to a pair of Two Seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES and the WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS. The teams seemed evenly matched at first and as the Halftime buzzer sounded the Hilltoppers were in the lead by a tight score of 39-37. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NCAA D2 FINAL FOUR

West Liberty Hilltoppers logoFIRST SEMIFINAL – The 2nd seeded WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS did battle with one of the remaining One seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA- AIKEN PACERS for the right to move on to the NCAA Division Two Championship Game. To the surprise of many the Hilltoppers had actually carved out a 41-40 lead for themselves by Halftime.

In the 2nd Half the game remained tight and intensely competitive. The teams were running neck and neck like a pair of racehorses but when all was said and done the Hilltoppers advanced, thanks to an 86-83 victory over the Pacers. Shawn Dyer of West Liberty University led his team by tossing in 30 of the Hilltoppers’ 86 points. Continue reading
