COLLEGE HOCKEY RESULTS: THE LATEST

Stevens Point Pointers logo1NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The 5th ranked UW- STEVENS POINT POINTERS were on the road against the number 1 team in the nation – the previously unbeaten SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS. The 1st Period ended in a 1-1 tie, but the Pointers had moved out to a 4-2 lead to end the 2nd. The Green Knights mounted a furious rally in the 3rd Period but fell short as UW-Stevens Point won the game 6-5.

UWSP’s Joe Kalisz had 2 Goals and 1 Assist, while Goaltender Brandon Jaeger got the win with 34 blocked shots. The Pointers are now 10-2, the Green Knights are 10-1-1.  

Buffalo State Bengals logoOTHER TOP FIFTEEN UPSETS – The only other upset among the ranked teams this week came in the game between the unranked BUFFALO STATE BENGALS and the number 12 NEUMANN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The Bengals scored in all 3 Periods, leading 3-1 after the 1st, 4-2 after the 2nd and 5-2 to close things out. Five separate Buffalo State skaters picked up Goals while between the pipes Ian Sylves got the win with 37 saves. The Bengals improve to 4-6 while the Knights fall to 6-3.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM JANUARY 10th AND 11th

Environ Science and Forestry Mighty OaksTHE MIGHTY OAKS RULE THE WORLD – The COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND FORESTRY out of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) traveled to take on the NCAA’s ALFRED STATE PIONEERS. At Halftime the upstart Mighty Oaks led 43-39 but by the end of regulation the Pioneers had tied it all up at 75 apiece. The score stood at 85-85 at the end of the first Overtime but the second Overtime ended with the Mighty Oaks eking out a 96-95 upset win.

Amherst Lord Jeffs logoTOP 25 UPSETS – The 8th ranked AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS welcomed their archrivals, the number 5 WILLIAMS COLLEGE EPHS (“eephs”) and wound up toppling them 84-73. COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND HOCKEY RESULTS FROM JANUARY 4th

kccougar_logosmall.gif (150×154)SCORING ORGY IN DOUBLE OVERTIME – The KUYPER COLLEGE COUGARS were on the road against the PURDUE UNIVERSITY-CALUMET PEREGRINES yesterday in an offensive explosion that lasted through regulation and two Overtime periods. In the end the Cougars went back home with a 127-120 victory   ###   Also in Double Overtime the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS defeated the visiting HASKELL INDIAN NATIONS UNIVERSITY INDIANS by a score of 112-105.

Bethany Swedes logoTHE BAHAMA HOUSE SHOOTOUT – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES took on the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS in the semifinals of this tournament yesterday. The Swedes put up 92 points to the 82 scored by the Trojans   ###   And in the other semifinal the top-ranked host school, the EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES came out on top in an 82-60 affair against the CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TIGERS.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND HOCKEY: NJCAA AND ACHA TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM MARCH 20TH

Central Arizona College VaquerosVAQUEROS RIDE! – Both NCAA Divisions 2 and 3 had off days yesterday for their respective tournaments. NJCAA Divisions One and Two saw action, however. In Division One the 6th seeded CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE VAQUEROS battled the 11th seeded SALT LAKE COLLEGE BRUINS for the right to advance to the Elite Eight. The Vaqueros moved on with an action- filled 87-82 victory in an undeniable Instant Classic!

Spartanburg Methodist College PioneersALL DEFENSE, ALL THE TIME – The 2nd seeded SPARTANBURG METHODIST COLLEGE PIONEERS are the ONLY undefeated team in the NJCAA1 tournament. Yesterday they had all they could handle from the 15 seeds, the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS. COMING FROM BEHIND IS STILL NO PROBLEM FOR GEORGETOWN COLLEGE – Last night wrapped up the 2013 National Championship Tournament in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). The 13th seeded GEORGETOWN COLLEGE (KY) TIGERS proved they had one more comeback victory over a higher seed in them.

The Tigers ultimately got the better of the 6th seeded SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS to take the title in the country’s oldest college basketball tourney (yes, older than the NCAA tournament). The Lions got off to an early lead and held a 5 point advantage less than two minutes into the game.
