COLLEGE HOCKEY RESULTS: THE LATEST

Stevens Point Pointers logo1NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The 5th ranked UW- STEVENS POINT POINTERS were on the road against the number 1 team in the nation – the previously unbeaten SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS. The 1st Period ended in a 1-1 tie, but the Pointers had moved out to a 4-2 lead to end the 2nd. The Green Knights mounted a furious rally in the 3rd Period but fell short as UW-Stevens Point won the game 6-5.

UWSP’s Joe Kalisz had 2 Goals and 1 Assist, while Goaltender Brandon Jaeger got the win with 34 blocked shots. The Pointers are now 10-2, the Green Knights are 10-1-1.  

Buffalo State Bengals logoOTHER TOP FIFTEEN UPSETS – The only other upset among the ranked teams this week came in the game between the unranked BUFFALO STATE BENGALS and the number 12 NEUMANN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The Bengals scored in all 3 Periods, leading 3-1 after the 1st, 4-2 after the 2nd and 5-2 to close things out. Five separate Buffalo State skaters picked up Goals while between the pipes Ian Sylves got the win with 37 saves. The Bengals improve to 4-6 while the Knights fall to 6-3.  

Nazareth Golden Flyers logoWORKING OVERTIME – Three Periods just weren’t enough for the NAZARETH COLLEGE GOLDEN FLYERS and their hosts, the COLLEGE OF SAINT SCHOLASTICA SAINTS. The Golden Flyers trailed the Saints 2-0 after 1 Period and 2-1 after 2 before managing a 3-3 tie to end Regulation. 1:48 into the Overtime Period Nazareth College’s John Power got the game-winner with an assist from Mike Miller. G Brandon Lane got the 4-3 victory with his 31 saves. The Golden Flyers are now an odd 5-4-3 for the season and CSS is now 7-5.

Wentworth Tech LeopardsWHAT A WIN FOR WENTWORTH – The WENTWORTH TECH LEOPARDS hosted the WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY CARDINALS in what turned out to be an Instant Classic. A 1-1 1st Period tie became a 3-2 edge for the Leopards after 2 Periods were in the books. In the end Wentworth Tech won the game 4-3 when an unassisted Goal from Mike Domsodi broke a 3-3 3rd Period tie. Domsodi had 2 Goals in the game and G Alex Peck notched 25 blocked shots in the win.  

Johnson and Wales WildcatsSATURDAY SHUTOUTS – The JOHNSON & WALES WILDCATS’ Goaltender Joey Ballmer registered 23 saves in the team’s 2-0 win over the CANTON STATE KANGAROOS     ###      Meanwhile Cory Simic, in Goal for the UTICA COLLEGE PIONEERS, had 30 saves in a 4-0 blanking of the NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE PILGRIMS     ###      And for the CASTLETON STATE SPARTANS, their G Mark Hochman likewise blocked all 30 shots from the SALVE REGINA SEAHAWKS in a 3-0 victory.     

southern new hampshire university penmenULTIMATE ROAD WARRIORS – The SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY PENMEN traveled to face the BECKER COLLEGE ICE HAWKS and left them rethinking their lives. A 1-0 1st Period lead for the Penmen became 5-1 in the 2nd, ultimately ending in an EIGHT to ONE triumph for Southern New Hampshire. Dane Caracino and John Humphrey had 2 Goals each for the Penmen with 3 and 1 Assists, respectively. G Ryan Slatky saved 25 shots in SNHU’s win.       

Potsdam State Bears logoSIX-TWO WAS A POPULAR SCORE FRIDAY – To kickoff the weekend the POTSDAM STATE BEARS notched a 6-2 road victory over the SAINT ANSELM HAWKS. Jon Hall blocked 32 shots for the win. His teammates Todd Thomas and Trevor Cope had 2 Goals each for the Bears.     ###      And the HOBART STATESMEN likewise notched a 6-2 victory on the home ice of the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE HUSKIES. Bo Webster slammed in 2 Goals for the Statesmen and G Tim Keegan won his first start of the season with 13 saves.

Oswego_250x250DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The (4) OSWEGO STATE LAKERS handed a 4-2 loss to the visiting TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS. G Matt Zawadzki had 22 saves in the win. ###      And the MIDDLEBURY PANTHERS won a 2-1 affair against their guests – the SAINT MICHAEL’S PURPLE KNIGHTS. G Stephen Klein blocked 33 shots for the Panthers.  

Babson College BeaversSISTER KISSING – The number 3 BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS took it on the road against the PLYMOUTH STATE PANTHERS. The Panthers led 1-0 in the 1st Period but the Beavers held a 2-1 lead to start the 3rd. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie and neither Jamie Murray for the Beavers nor Gordon Ceaser for the Panthers gave up a goal in Overtime, leaving 2-2 as the final score.

UNE NoreastersSTORM FRONT – The UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS defended their home ice in style against the POTSDAM STATE BEARS on Saturday. The Nor’easters led 3-0 after the 1st Period on their way to a 5-1 triumph. Ben Pearl logged the first 2 Goals for the University of New England and Tom Gildersleeve had THREE Assists in the game. G Colby Drost registered 37 saves for the Nor’easters.    

Southern Maine Huskies 2DOG BITES KNIGHT – The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE HUSKIES did battle with the visiting SAINT MICHAEL’S COLLEGE PURPLE KNIGHTS yesterday. The Huskies had compiled a 5-1 lead over the Purple Knights by the end of the 2nd Period with the final tally being a 5-2 victory for Southern Maine. Chad O’Brien had 2 Goals for the Huskies and their G Kyle Shapiro blocked 37 shots in the win. 

Nichols BisonNICHOLS SPANKS SKIDMORE – The NICHOLS COLLEGE BISON welcomed the SKIDMORE COLLEGE THOROUGHBREDS in a high-scoring affair. The Bison led 3-2 in the 1st Period and then 6-3 in the 2nd before adding another goan in the 3rd for a 7-3 blowout win. Paul Prescott had THREE Goals for Nichols College and G Alex Larson blocked an exhausting 44 shots for the Bison.

Salem State VikingsVIKINGS HO! – The SALEM STATE VIKINGS outscored the SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY RAMS by a 4 to 1 margin in their, uh, 4-1 victory over them on Friday. That victory means the Vikings’ new record is 6-4-1, that of the Rams 8-2-1.  

Briercrest College Clippers logoFIVE TO ONE WAS A POPULAR SCORE ON SATURDAY – The BRIERCREST COLLEGE CLIPPERS visited the WILLISTON STATE TETONS yesterday and trounced them to the tune of 5-1.     ###      And the ERIE COLLEGE KATS likewise logged a 5-1 road win, in their case over the MEDAILLE COLLEGE MAVERICKS.
