COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NAIA FINAL FOUR, NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT, CCCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
*** NAIA ***
NAIA FINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – The 5th seeded INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS and the (unseeded) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE played in last night’s First Semifinal in NAIA2 basketball. In a tale of two Halves the upstart Fire team seemed to be threatening an upset once again, hanging around IWU who held just a 43-37 lead at the break. The 2nd Half saw the Wildcats begin to get more separation, and considering the fact that IWU shot 54% from the field and SIXTY-FOUR percent from 3-point range it’s a bit surprising that the final score was as mild as this: Wildcats 98 Fire 77. * INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PLAYS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TUESDAY NIGHT *
NAIA FINAL FOUR – GAME TWO – In this Second Semifinal in NAIA2 basketball the 10th seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS did to the (unseeded) ROBERT MORRIS (IL) UNIVERSITY EAGLES the same thing world leaders like Putin do to the weak, inept and crooked little man named Barack Obama on a regular basis: namely they folded, spindled and mutilated them. For a Semifinal clash this game seemed instead like a November game between mismatched teams. In the role of Obama RMU seemed impotent and confused much of the time while the Warriors played with skill and Continue reading

PULP HERO THE MOON MAN: STORIES 28 – 30
I’m continuing my look at Frederick C Davis’ 1930’s pulp hero the Moon Man. In reality police detective Stephen Thatcher, the Moon Man stalked the night-darkened streets of fictional Great City clad in his black costume and his helmet made of one-way Argus glass. Armed with an automatic pistol plus limitless courage and ingenuity the Moon Man captured or killed Great City’s most dangerous criminals – both white collar and blue collar – and robbed them of their ill-gotten booty. He would then distribute that money to the city’s Great Depression-ravaged poor. All this made him hunted by both the crooks AND the cops. For more on the Moon Man and other neglected pulp heroes click here: https://glitternight.com/pulp-heroes/
28. THE MASTER OF MURDER RIVER – The Moon Man’s adversary in this adventure is the titular “master” – a gangster named Lane Hynard, who runs the illegal gambling in the secret River Casino which stands on the banks of Murder River. Jim Paine, a charity manager at last wins back the charity’s money that he had gambled away on previous visits there and, shadowed by the Moon Man, Paine is killed and robbed by Hynard’s goons “Smoothy” Frisch and Ben Gilbord.
When our hero tries to recover the $10,240 of the charity’s funds from the two gunsels the cops arrive and mistakenly think the Moon Man killed and robbed Paine. Our hero and his sidekick Angel spend the Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE IN THE NAIA, NCCAA, NJCAA AND CCCAA

ROUND TWO GAME ONE – The 10th seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS and the 7th seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS fought it out for the first slot in the Elite Eight. The Cougars got off to a quick 7-3 lead but with just 4:30 left in the Half everything was tied up at 21-21. From there the Warriors dominated til the buzzer sounded and took a 37-23 lead into the break. With just 2:06 left in the game the tally stood at 57-56, Midland. This became a 64-59 Warrior lead as the final seconds ticked off, with the Cougars making it a 64-61 final score as time expired.
ROUND TWO GAME TWO – The 9th seeded DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS did battle with the 8th seeded BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY BRUINS in the second game of the day yesterday. At one point in the opening Half the Panthers led the Bruins 29-19 but by Halftime the score was a much closer count of Davenport 31 Bellevue 29. In the closing 20 minutes the tension continued with any run by the Panthers met by one on the part of the Bruins. By the time all was said and done in this Instant Classic the score was Continue reading

ADAM AND EVE VERSUS THE CANNIBALS (1983)
Screw the overrated Dan Brown and what he thinks are “shocking” revelations even though they’ve been known about and debated for centuries. If you want to see what the world’s religious establishments have REALLY been hiding from you check out this delirious acid trip of a movie from Italy. For the squeamish I know the word “cannibals” in close proximity to “Italy” usually means the hardcore violence of Italian Cannibal flicks by Ruggerio Deodato and company but that’s not the case here.
Actually this movie seems to have been trying to leapfrog on the mild success of films like Quest for Fire or One Million B.C. with odd overtones of Blue Lagoon but the end result is UN-intentionally funnier than Ringo Starr’s comedy Caveman. Adam and Eve versus the Cannibals opens up with a montage of “creation” followed by a scene of Adam (cult action icon Mark Gregory) emerging from a bloody and gooey cocoon … yes, a cocoon.
Not too long after that this flick throws even more oddball theology at us as it Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: DAY TWO OF THE NAIA AND NCCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS, DAY ONE FOR THE NJCAA
*** NAIA ***
DAY TWO GAME ONE – The (unseeded) OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES trailed the 12th seeded MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS 19-6 early on but, powered by their three-point shooting the Eagles came storming back. OWU led 39-31 at Halftime but a 16-5 run by the Mustangs kept everything tight throughout the 2nd Half. In the end the Eagles completed the upset, defeating Morningside College 76-72.
DAY TWO GAME TWO – OWU’s team of Eagles may have survived but luckily for everyone who is fed up with the overused team name Eagles the 5th seeded INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS prevailed over the (unseeded) REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Wildcats led Reinhardt 38-30 at the break and pressed down on the accelerator in the 2nd Half, dominating on both sides of the ball for an Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ACTION FOR THE NAIA AND NCCAA
*** NAIA ***
GAME ONE – The 10th seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS set in motion a day of reckoning for the annoyingly large number of college sports teams called Eagles. The Warriors took on the (unseeded) EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES, whom I still say should change their team’s name to the Aeronauts. Anyway, Midland University held a 38-31 Halftime lead and withstood various runs by Embry-Riddle that brought them closer throughout the 2nd Half. In the end the Warriors moved on by a score of 69-61.
GAME TWO – The 7th seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS kept the anti-Eagle mojo going in their clash with the (unseeded) CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES, who were making their first ever National Tournament appearance. A 10-0 run very early in the game put the Cougars up 19-4 and a 20-9 run to close the Half left them with a commanding 44-25 advantage. The Eagles closed to 54-44 with over 10 minutes to play in the game and made it a 4 point game of 61-57 at the 5:52 mark. From there SXU sprinted for an Continue reading
