NOTEWORTHY COLLEGE BASEBALL RESULTS FROM APRIL 20TH

ENGINEERS DO IT WITH SLIDE-RULES – The unranked ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE ENGINEERS managed a split with the number 9 MANCHESTER SPARTANS yesterday. The Engineers doubled-up on the Spartans by a score of 6-3 in the first game but the Spartans turned the tables on them in the second game, crushing them 10-1. Believe it or not this was the only upset in the Top 25 in yesterday’s action!

THESE GAMES WERE RANK – In clashes between ranked teams yesterday: The top-ranked LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS took care of business, mauling the number 19 GEORGE FOX BRUINS 6-1 and 10-3.   ###   In the 3 spot the KEAN COUGARS took two from the 14th ranked RAMAPO COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS, edging them 8-7 and crushing them 18-2.

EXTRA INNINGS – Several games needed extra frames to decide a victor – The THIEL COLLEGE TOMCATS defeated the WESTMINSTER (PA) TITANS by a score of 7-3 in a 10 inning affair.   ###   The RIPON REDHAWKS needed 11 innings to eke out a 3-2 win over the BELOIT BUCCANEERS.   ###   The BLACKBURN BEAVERS edged the MACMURRAY HIGHLANDERS 6-5 in 10 innings.   ###   And the WHITWORTH PIRATES fell to the WILLAMETTE BEARCATS in 10 innings by a score of 9-6.   

INSTANT CLASSICS – The PACIFIC LUTHERAN LUTES snuck by the LEWIS & CLARK PIONEERS by a score of 6-5.   ###   The PUGET SOUND LOGGERS took out the PACIFIC BOXERS in a 4-3 nailbiter.   ###   The DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY STARS edged the EDGEWOOD EAGLES 5-4.   ###   And the KEUKA STORM won a 10-9 batters’ duel with the LANCASTER BIBLE CHARGERS.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE – Among the teams who doubled-up on their opponents: The STEVENS POINT POINTERS defeated the SAINT SCHOLASTICA SAINTS  8-4.   ###   The MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS struck down the ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE (Long Island) GOLDEN EAGLES by a score of 4-2.   ###   The OGLETHORPE STORMY PETRELS fell by the same score to the visiting HENDRIX WARRIORS.   ###   The JOHN JAY BLOODHOUNDS took out the CCNY BEAVERS in a 10-5 clash.   ###   And the HUSSON EAGLES routed the LYNDON STATE HORNETS in a similar 10-5 game.     

SHUTOUTS – The COLLEGE OF WOOSTER FIGHTING SCOTS drubbed the OBERLIN YEOMEN in a 7-0 laugher.   ###   The WILKES COLONELS took a very tight 2-0 affair from the DELAWARE VALLEY AGGIES.   ###   Meanwhile the NEW PALTZ STATE HAWKS clawed out the eyes of the PLATTSBURGH STATE CARDINALS  7-0.   ###   The HEIDELBERG STUDENT PRINCES blanked the MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS by a score of 6-0.   ###   And the FRANKLIN & MARSHALL DIPLOMATS took down the DICKINSON RED DEVILS in a 2-0 classic!   

UTTER ANNIHILATION – The MITCHELL MARINERS Gallano-ed the LESLEY LYNX in a NINETEEN to NOTHING outing that will have the folks at Lesley rethinking their lives.   ###   The WENTWORTH LEOPARDS devastated the GORDON FIGHTING SCOTS by a score of 16-1.   ###   Meanwhile the MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS took it on the road and keelhauled the JUNIATA EAGLES  13-2.   ###   And the WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS iambic pentametered the visiting CHAPMAN PANTHERS by a score of 10-2.    

WE WENT TO A BASEBALL GAME BUT A FOOTBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The WASHINGTON & LEE GENERALS won a 15-11 scoring orgy with the VIRGINIA WESLEYAN MARLINS.   ###   The WORCESTER STATE LANCERS held serve with a 14-10 victory over the MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME BUCCANEERS.   ###   The COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS flippered the BARUCH BEARCATS by a score of 20-7.   ###   The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS STAGS won a 10-7 thriller against the CAL TECH BEAVERS.   ###   And the SWARTHMORE GARNET emerged with a 14-9 victory over the MCDANIEL GREEN TERROR.
