NCCAA SEMIFINALS, PLUS NJCAA FINAL FOUR SET

NCCAA DIVISION ONE

Roberts Wesleyan College RedhawksFIRST SEMIFINAL – The 2 seeds – the ROBERTS WESLEYAN COLLEGE REDHAWKS – took the court against the 3rd seeded HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE UNIVERSITY TROJANS. The Redhawks found themselves chasing the Trojans at Halftime as they faced a 35-22 deficit. After the break Roberts Wesleyan College mounted a massive comeback, winning the game 63-61 led by 19 points from Peyton McLaurin. 

Cedarville U Yellow JacketsSECOND SEMIFINAL – Up next the top seeded CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS clashed with the 4 seeds – the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS. The Yellow Jackets put up 36 points in each Half, leading the Rambling Rams 36-27 at the midpoint before winning it by a final tally of 72-59. Conner TenHove tossed in 20 points to lead Cedarville U.

NJCAA DIVISION THREE

Herkimer Generals logo BIGFINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The 2 seeds – the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS – squared off against the 7th seeded SANDHILLS COLLEGE FLYERS yesterday. The Generals were clobbering the Flyers to the tune of 40-22 at the break, then kept them at arm’s length in the 2nd Half for a 76-64 victory. Arnold Agard, Derrick Felder and Musa Pough led Herkimer College with 14 points each. Continue reading

NAIA COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPS CROWNED PLUS NJCAA POSTSEASON CONTINUES

NAIA DIVISION TWO

Spring Arbor U CougarsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY COUGARS went up against the OREGON TECH HUSTLIN’ OWLS for the title in NAIA Division Two. The Cougars wound up on top of the Hustlin’ Owls 44-35 by Halftime. In the 2nd Half Oregon Tech inched a little bit closer but was ultimately left behind as Spring Arbor U won it 82-76. Brandon Durnell led the victors with THIRTY-TWO points. * THE COUGARS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NAIA DIVISION TWO *

NJCAA DIVISION TWO

Milwaukee Tech StormersDISTRICT 203 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 3 seeds – the MILWAUKEE AREA TECHNICAL COLLEGE STORMERS – faced the top seeded SOUTH SUBURBAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Stormers put the Bulldogs on Upset Alert with a 39-37 edge at the break, then carried through on the deal, winning the game by a score of 75-72. Twenty-three points from Shannon Stanford led Milwaukee Area Tech. * THE STORMERS ADVANCE TO THE NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT *

Dakota County Tech Blue KnightsDISTRICT 207 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – In this matchup the DAKOTA COUNTY TECH BLUE KNIGHTS clashed with the SOUTHEAST (NE) COLLEGE STORM. By the midpoint of the game the Blue Knights had eked out a 41-39 lead over the Storm. After the break the two teams went basket for basket, scoring 43 more points each as Dakota County Tech won an 84-82 Instant Classic. Dashawn Walker tossed in 23 points to lead the victors. * THE BLUE KNIGHTS ADVANCE TO THE NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT * Continue reading

NAIA FINAL FOUR RESULTS AND MORE POSTSEASON COLLEGE BASKETBALL ACTION

NAIA DIVISION TWO

hustlin-owls1FIRST SEMIFINAL – The OREGON TECH HUSTLIN’ OWLS played the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES in Final Four action. The Hustlin’ Owls had the Coyotes on the ropes by Halftime with a massive 52-29 lead. After the break Oregon Tech weathered a minor College of Idaho rally to defeat them 93-81. Seth Erickson put up 27 points to lead the Hustlin’ Owls. 

Spring Arbor U CougarsSECOND SEMIFINAL – The Upset-minded SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY COUGARS clashed with the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. A defense-heavy opening Half ended with the Cougars on top 25-22. From there Spring Arbor University left the Knights further and further behind on their way to a 66-50 triumph. Seventeen points from Brandon Durnell led the Cougars.  

NJCAA DIVISION ONE

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Golden NorsemenDISTRICT TWO CHAMPIONSHIP – The NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN fought the CONNORS STATE COWBOYS. The Golden Norsemen held a 38-29 advantage at the break but the Cowboys wouldn’t go away and even held a few late leads before Northeastern Oklahoma A&M won the game 67-65 off a Rudi Williams jumper with 1.6 seconds to play. Kyle Lukasiewicz and Samkelo Cole led the way with 16 points each. * THE GOLDEN NORSEMEN ADVANCE TO THE NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT * Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

Northwest Kansas Tech MavericksDISTRICT 6: ROUND ONE UPSETS – The 13th seeded NORTHWEST KANSAS TECH MAVERICKS stunned the 4 seeds – the COWLEY COLLEGE TIGERS in an 87-84 Instant Classic    ###    And the 11 seeds – the PRATT COLLEGE BEAVERS – toppled the 6th seeded CLOUD COUNTY COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS by a count of 68-56.   

Hutchinson Blue Dragons LogoDISTRICT 6: HUTCH ADVANCES – The 3 seeds – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – took on the 14th seeded ALLEN COUNTY COLLEGE RED DEVILS. By Halftime the Blue Dragons had compiled a 52-38 advantage over the Red Devils. After the break Allen County College could merely inch a bit closer as Hutchinson won it 98-88 led by Malique Jacobs with 24 points.

Independence Pirates logoDISTRICT 6: EIGHT OVER NINE – This game pitted the 8th seeded INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES against the 9th seeded GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. The Pirates pounded out a 37-24 lead by the Half then withstood an attempted rally by the Broncbusters to win the game 71-66. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPS

University of Antelope Valley PioneersCALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded UNIVERSITY OF ANTELOPE VALLEY PIONEERS mixed it up with the 3 seeds – the EMBRY-RIDDLE (AZ) AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Aeronauts). The Pioneers were on top 35-25 at Halftime but after the break the Eagles quickly pulled to within 3 points at 36-33. From there UAV got more separation, ultimately winning it 65-56 led by Hayden Hall’s 18 points. * THE PIONEERS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT *

college of idaho coyoteCASCADE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2 seeds – the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES – played the Cinderella 6th seeded SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be the Sea Gulls). A 33-25 Coyotes lead at the break transformed into a 70-55 triumph for College of Idaho when all was said and done. Matt Meyers led the way for the Coyotes with 19 points. * THE COYOTES ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE CASCADE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT *

jamestown college jimmiesGREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title clash pitted the 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES against the top seeds – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. Points flew like shrapnel in the 1st Half, which ended with the Mustangs up 49-46. After the break the Jimmies roared back for an 86-84 victory in this Instant Classic. Mayville State Comets SQUARENORTH STAR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 3 seeds – the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS – played the 2nd seeded BELLEVUE (NE) BRUINS. The 1st Half ended with the Comets leading the Bruins by a score of 33-26. After the break Mayville State completed the Upset, offing Bellevue 66-55. Daniel Lindgren tossed in 18 points to lead the Comets. * THE COMETS ARE NSAA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

Voorhees College TigersASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 3rd seeded VOORHEES COLLEGE TIGERS squared off against the 4 seeds – the COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS – for the AII title. The Tigers were on top 44-36 at Halftime but the Bobcats pulled off a 72-72 tie to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime wound up in an 82-82 deadlock but in the 2nd Voorhees College slashed their way to a 91-89 win led by Alex Brooks’ 24 points. * THE TIGERS ARE AII CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS *

Richland College Thunder ducksDISTRICT 303: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Familiar rivals clashed in this District Tournament title tilt: The top seeds – the RICHLAND COLLEGE THUNDERDUCKS – and the 3rd seeded EASTFIELD COLLEGE HARVESTERS. The Thunderducks had eked out a 42-41 edge by the break then mustered 1 more point of separation from the Harvesters for an 82-80 victory. MARCH MADNESS SEES TWO MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPS CROWNED

NCAA DIV TWO

Ferris State BulldogsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The lone remaining 1 seed – the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS – battled the 3rd seeded NORTHERN STATE WOLVES for the NCAA Division Two title.

A fierce, furious opening Half ended with the Bulldogs clinging to a 39-37 edge over the Wolves. The 2nd Half saw the two teams put up exactly 32 points each, as Ferris State won their first ever National Championship by a score of 71-69. Zach Hankins led the victors with his 19 points.  * THE BULLDOGS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NCAA DIVISION TWO * Continue reading

MARCH MADNESS: NJCAA FINAL FOUR ACTION

NJCAA DIV ONE

Southern Idaho Golden EaglesFIRST SEMIFINAL – The 10 seeds – the COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN IDAHO GOLDEN EAGLES – set out to drag down the 3rd seeded VINCENNES UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS in this game.

The Golden Eagles were pursuing the Trailblazers at Halftime as they trailed them 49-36. The College of Southern Idaho regrouped in the locker room and came out ready for action, outscoring Vincennes University 44-25 from there. The final tally was Golden Eagles 80  Trailblazers 74. Charles Jones, Jr led CSI with his 22 points. Continue reading

NJCAA FINAL FOUR AND MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL ACTION

NJCAA DIV ONE

South Plains College Texans NEWFINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – This battle of Cinderellas pitted the 13th seeded SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE TEXANS against the 12 seeds – the CONNORS STATE COWBOYS.

The Texans seemed in control of the game with a 50-32 lead at Halftime. After the break, however, the Cowboys came alive and South Plains College wound up having to fight to survive an 80-75 thriller. Christopher Orlina of the Texans notched a Double Double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.    

Vincennes University Trailblazers logo VFINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – Up next the 3 seeds – the VINCENNES UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS – struck a blow for Chalk in their battle with the 6th seeded FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE BUCCANEERS.

By the break the Trailblazers held a 32-26 advantage over the Buccaneers. From there Vincennes University kept Florida Southwestern State at arm’s length the rest of the way, sneaking a bit more breathing room for a 76-68 triumph. Twenty-three points from Ty Gadsden led the Trailblazers.  Continue reading
