DISTRICT 6: ROUND ONE UPSETS – The 13th seeded NORTHWEST KANSAS TECH MAVERICKS stunned the 4 seeds – the COWLEY COLLEGE TIGERS in an 87-84 Instant Classic ### And the 11 seeds – the PRATT COLLEGE BEAVERS – toppled the 6th seeded CLOUD COUNTY COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS by a count of 68-56.
DISTRICT 6: HUTCH ADVANCES – The 3 seeds – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – took on the 14th seeded ALLEN COUNTY COLLEGE RED DEVILS. By Halftime the Blue Dragons had compiled a 52-38 advantage over the Red Devils. After the break Allen County College could merely inch a bit closer as Hutchinson won it 98-88 led by Malique Jacobs with 24 points.
DISTRICT 6: EIGHT OVER NINE – This game pitted the 8th seeded INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES against the 9th seeded GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. The Pirates pounded out a 37-24 lead by the Half then withstood an attempted rally by the Broncbusters to win the game 71-66. Jibril Harris led Independence College with a Double Double of 20 points and 13 rebounds.
DISTRICT 6: MORE CHALK – The 7 seeds – the COLBY (KS) TROJANS – did battle with the 10 seeded BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES yesterday and defeated them 77-70 ### And the 5th seeded BARTON COLLEGE COUGARS won by that same 7 point margin against their opponents, the 12th seeded NEOSHO COLLEGE PANTHERS. 87-80 was the final.
NJCAA DIVISION THREE
DISTRICT 305: CUE THE JAWS THEME – The top seeds – the SUFFOLK COUNTY COLLEGE SHARKS – faced the 8th seeded DUTCHESS COLLEGE FALCONS. The Sharks were on top 31-20 by Halftime and proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate the Falcons in the 2nd Half. Suffolk County College won the game 84-50 led by 24 points from Tyree Grimsley.
DISTRICT 305: FIRST ROUND UPSETS – The 6th seeded MONROE COLLEGE AT THE BRONX EXPRESS surprised the 3 seeds – the HOSTOS COLLEGE CAYMANS by defeating them in an 83-80 game for the ages. ### And the 5 seeds – the QUEENSBOROUGH COLLEGE TIGERS – downed the 4th seeded BOROUGH OF MANHATTAN COLLEGE PANTHERS 75-70.
DISTRICT 305: THE LIONS ROAR – In the 2 spot the NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS took the court against the 7 seeds – the BRONX COLLEGE BRONCOS. A 37-28 Halftime advantage for the Lions over the Broncos ultimately turned into a decisive 71-60 triumph for Nassau. Two Lions led their team with Double Doubles – Darius Young with 16 points and 14 rebounds & Stephen Moncrieffe with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
