NCCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS BEGIN, NAIA CONTINUES

Johnson (TN) RoyalsDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4 seeds – the JOHNSON UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE ROYALS – took the court against the 5th seeded MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS.

The Royals had things well in hand by the break with a 51-31 advantage over the Sabercats. Coming out of the locker room Johnson University of Tennessee kept up the pace until garbage time, bouncing Maranatha Baptist University by a final score of 90-73.

Randall University Saints NEWDAY ONE, GAME TWO – Up next the top seeded Defending National Champions – the RANDALL UNIVERSITY SAINTS – clashed with the 8th seeded KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS.

Kentucky Christian University was really feeling it and had the Saints faithful worried at Halftime with their 39-36 edge over the top seeds. In the 2nd Half Randall University showed the Heart of a Champion and outscored the Knights 42-38 for a tight 78-77 win. Kashus Lyons scored 24 points for RU. Continue reading

ACCA COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPS CROWNED, NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT BEGINS

Arlington Baptist PatriotsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The ARLINGTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS and the KANSAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE FALCONS were the last two teams left in the battle for the national title of the ACCA.

The Patriots showed their advantage in postseason experience, notching a 43-35 lead by Halftime. From there the Falcons fought hard to make a comeback and Arlington Baptist University had to hold on tight to survive with an 87-84 victory. Quinton Moore led the Patriots with 27 points. * THE PATRIOTS ARE ACCA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS *

NAIA DIVISION TWO

Southwestern College Moundbuilders logoDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4 seed versus 5 seed game in this National Tournament pitted the (4) SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS against the (5) ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS.

The Moundbuilders had their Defense clicking and prevented the Lakers from reaching 30 points in either Half. Southwestern College led 31-27 by the midpoint of the game and after the break outscored Roosevelt University 34-28 for a 65-55 triumph. Fourteen points from Cameron Hunt led the Moundbuilders. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MORE TICKETS PUNCHED TO THE NAIA TOURNAMENT

CHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Governors State University JaguarsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeds – the GOVERNORS STATE JAGUARS – took on the 2nd seeded ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS for the CCAC crown yesterday.

By Halftime the Jaguars had shot out to a 39-29 advantage and that turned out to be the difference in the game. The 2nd Half was spent keeping the Lakers at arm’s length and in the end Governors State won the title by a final tally of 78-68. Jalen Miller notched 22 points to lead the victors. * THE JAGUARS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE CCAC TOURNAMENT Continue reading

LATEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

Stillman College TigersCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title tilt pitted the STILLMAN COLLEGE TIGERS against the VOORHEES COLLEGE TIGERS, so you can insert my usual comment about how there are too many college sports teams called Tigers, Eagles, Bulldogs and Wildcats.

At the end of an explosive 1st Half Stillman College  led Voorhees College by a count of 44-38. After the break a 7-0 run put Voorhees on top 45-44 but Stillman soon retook the lead. After several ties the rest of the way the end result was an 87-84 triumph for Stillman College. Daquan Forrest led the victors with 22 points.  * THE STILLMAN TIGERS ARE THE 2018 CHAMPIONS OF THE AII TOURNAMENT

GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders logoFIRST SEMIFINAL – The 3rd seeded NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS took the court against the 7 seeds – the DOANE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (Didn’t I tell you there are too many teams called Tigers?)

The Red Raiders struck a blow for more original team names (Unless you’re from Lubbock) by leading the Tigers 34-25 by the Half. From there Northwestern College stayed in control and ultimately advanced to the Conference title game by a score of 77-63. Nathan Wedel tossed in 25 points to lead the way for the Red Raiders.    Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE

uc merced golden bobcatsFIRST SEMIFINAL – End of a Dynasty! The 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT MERCED GOLDEN BOBCATS ended the half-decade run in which the (3) CALIFORNIA MARITIME ACADEMY KEELHAULERS dominated the Cal Pacific Conference.

The opening Half was a Defensive Epic, ending with the Golden Bobcats on top of the Keelhaulers 29-21. Cal Maritime, as usual, didn’t give up and forced Overtime with a 55-55 tie to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime session ended knotted up at 63-63 but in the 2nd OT UC-Merced emerged with a 71-70 triumph! Cole Taira led this consummate team effort with his 12 points.

University of Antelope Valley PioneersSECOND SEMIFINAL – This game pitted the top seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF ANTELOPE VALLEY PIONEERS – against the 4th seeded SIMPSON (CA) UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS.

The Pioneers made sure to avoid all the sturm und drang of the First Semifinal and bolted out to a 42-30 lead over the Red Hawks by the Half. From there Antelope Valley’s virtual Teenage Crime Wave continued (bad movie fans will get it) as they smothered Simpson U by a final count of 83-58. The Pioneers were led by Sheldon Blackwell’s 19 points and 6 rebounds. 

THE SUN CONFERENCE

thomas-university-night-hawks-bigOPENING ROUND, GAME ONE – The 3rd seeded THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS took the court against the 6 seeds – the COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA MARINERS.

The Nighthawks utterly dominated the Mariners on both sides of the ball and held a commanding 42-28 lead by Halftime. After the break Thomas University coasted the rest of the way for a 77-65 victory. Katrell Myers tossed in 24 points to lead the way for the Nighthawks. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 23rd

NORTH STAR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

Viterbo V-HawksFIRST QUARTERFINAL – The 7 seeds – the VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS – put the 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES on Upset Alert with a 39-36 Halftime edge.

From there the V-Hawks eked out a little bit more separation from the Jimmies, advancing to the Semifinals with a 79-73 stunner. Ethan Haberman led Viterbo University with a Double Double of 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Mayville State Comets SQUARESECOND QUARTERFINAL – Up next the 4th seeded MAYVILLE STATE COMETS clashed with the 5 seeds – the WALDORF UNIVERSITY WARRIORS.

A 33-31 advantage for the Comets over the Warriors was the result by the break. The 2nd Half saw Mayville State add to their lead for a final tally of 75-68. Gorg Alhag of the Comets tossed in THIRTY-TWO points and notched 7 rebounds to lead the victors.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 21st

CHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Saint xavier university cougars new logoFIRST QUARTERFINAL – The 6th seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS visited the 3 seeds – the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS.

The Cougars were chasing the Trojans by a score of 43-39 after an action-packed opening Half, but outscored Trinity International University 59-44 after the break. Saint Xavier advanced to the Semifinals with a 98-87 upset win led by Niko Cahue’s THIRTY points. 

Roosevelt U LakersSECOND QUARTERFINAL – In the 2 spot the ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS welcomed the 7th seeded CARDINAL STRITCH UNIVERSITY WOLVES. The Lakers dominated the Wolves on both sides of the ball, keeping them under 30 points in each Half while getting a lot of separation Offensively.

At Halftime Roosevelt University held a 35-25 advantage and from there pulled further and further away from Cardinal Stritch U. Ultimately the Lakers won the game 74-54. Jake Ludwig tossed in 22 points to lead the way for the victors.  Continue reading

The 2nd seeded ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS (24-6) will host the number 7 seeds – the CARDINAL STRITCH UNIVERSITY WOLVES (15-15).

Tipoff is scheduled for tonight at 8:00pm Eastern Time.

Governors State University JaguarsSECOND QUARTERFINAL:

The top seeds – the GOVERNORS STATE UNIVERSITY JAGUARS (22-8) – will welcome the 8th seeded OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (15-15).

Tipoff is scheduled for tonight at 8:00pm Eastern Time.
