TWO MORE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS WON PLUS MORE POSTSEASON ACTION

* NJCAA DIVISION THREE *

Richland College Thunder ducksCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The last two teams standing in NJCAA Division Three hoops were, appropriately enough – the top two seeds. The 2nd seeds – the RICHLAND COLLEGE THUNDER DUCKS – took on the number 1 seeded ROCK VALLEY COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES. At Halftime it looked as if the Golden Eagles would be joining their women’s team as National Champions since the men held a 35-27 lead over the Thunder Ducks. Richland College regrouped in the locker room then mounted a comeback for the ages, ultimately winning the game by a final score of 67-64. ANOTHER CHAMPION CROWNED AMID MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS

* NCCAA2 *

Lancaster Bible College Chargers NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The title game in the 2nd Division of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) was played between the 2 seeds – the LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE CHARGERS – and the Cinderella 8 seeds – the HILLSDALE FREE WILL BAPTIST COLLEGE SAINTS. The Chargers forced the Saints to hear the chimes of midnight (for you Shakespeare fans), leading them 45-30 at Halftime enroute to a 78-65 National Championship win! Phil Carey once again led Lancaster Bible College with a Double Double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHARGERS, THE 2015 CHAMPIONS OF NCCAA DIVISION TWO BASKETBALL! *

Davenport PanthersFINAL FOUR – FIRST BERTH – The Defending Champions go down! The 8th seeded DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS stunned the top seeded Defending Champs of NAIA2 basketball – the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. An edge-of-your- seat 1st Half ended with the Wildcats on top by just 41-38 and the 2nd Half was just as close. With just 1:06 left to play the score stood at 75-75, the 12th tie of the game. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MORE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ACTION

Southern Oregon Raiders logoELITE EIGHT – FIRST BERTH – The (BD) SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS took on the (BD) GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS for this berth in the Elite Eight. The Raiders trailed the Lancers 39-35 at Halftime but pressed down on the accelerator after the break, roaring ahead for a 68-62 victory. Jordan West led SOU with THIRTY-TWO points while teammate Tim Weber notched a Double Double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Continue reading

NAIA AND NCCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE PLUS MORE

grace college USEDAY TWO – GAME ONE – The second day of First Round action in the NAIA2 got underway with the (BD) GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS toppling the (7) BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY BRUINS. The Lancers trailed the Bruins by just 33-30 at Halftime, then made their move during a 2nd Half dominated by smothering defense from both teams. In the end Grace College advanced with a 54-50 upset victory. Logan Irwin’s 21 points led the Lancers. Continue reading

COLLEGE HOOPS: NAIA AND NCCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS UNDERWAY

Concordia (OR) CavaliersDAY ONE – GAME ONE – You want offense? The game between the (14) CONCORDIA (OR) CAVALIERS and the (BD) INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST RED WOLVES had you covered. By Halftime the Cavaliers were on top by a blistering 66-39. After the break both teams were still rolling offensively and in the end Concordia advanced to the 2nd Round by a Century Club-level score of ONE HUNDRED SIXTEEN to NINETY! Phoenix Bears logoDISTRICT 201 – CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Out west in Arizona the two teams left battling for this District’s championship were the PHOENIX COLLEGE BEARS and the TOHONO O’ODHAM COLLEGE JEGOS. Slowly but surely the Bears took absolute command over this game away from the Jegos and wound up winning by a final tally of 84-65. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BEARS, WHO MOVE ON TO THE NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT. *  Continue reading

COLLEGE HOOPS RESULTS: THE LATEST

Trinity Bantams logoIn 2nd Round action in the D3 National Tournament the TRINITY (CT) COLLEGE BANTAMS and the SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS played a defensive epic. At Halftime the score was a shocking 29-16 in favor of the Bantams. After the break Trinity kept up the pressure on both sides of the ball and wound up winning the game 60-47. COLLEGE BASKETBALL POSTSEASON ACTION: THE LATEST

* GULF COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

Talladega College Tornadoes NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded AND top ranked TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES engaged in a hardcourt battle with the 2nd seeded XAVIER (LA) GOLD RUSH. The Tornadoes held a 30-28 edge over the Gold Rush at Halftime but then poured it on offensively in the 2nd Half. By game’s end Talladega College won by a final score of 76-58. Shondel Stewart once again led the Tornadoes with 20 points.  * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TORNADOES, WHO MOVE ON TO THE NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT! * Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS CROWNED AMID OTHER POSTSEASON ACTION

*** USCAA DIVISION ONE ***

daemen wildcatsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded DAEMEN COLLEGE WILDCATS did battle with the 3 seeds – the ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS – for the National Championship of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). Unfortunately, after all the exciting hoops action so far in the USCAA Tournament this title game was a bit disappointing. The Wildcats outclassed the Warriors on both sides of the ball and by Halftime had compiled a 43-21 advantage. After the break they remained in control, ultimately winning by a final score of 77-53. Gerald Beverly led Daemen College with 19 points. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WILDCATS, THE 2015 CHAMPIONS OF THE USCAA! * Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL POSTSEASON ACTION CONTINUES

*** ACCA ***

Arlington Baptist PatriotsFIRST SEMIFINAL – The first semifinal in the National Championship Tournament of the ACCA (Association of Christian College Athletics) was played between the Defending Champions – the ARLINGTON BAPTIST COLLEGE PATRIOTS – and the HILLSDALE FREE WILL BAPTIST COLLEGE SAINTS. The Patriots could just smell a return to the title game and had compiled a 45-31 lead by the Halftime buzzer. In the 2nd Half every run by the trailing Saints was answered by another run by Arlington Baptist College. The Patriots thus kept Hillsdale at arm’s-length the rest of the way and ultimately won by a final score of 95-77. Up next Arlington Baptist tries to make it back-to-back national titles in the ACCA!   

Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles logoSECOND SEMIFINAL – The battle for the other slot in the title game pitted the FAITH BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE EAGLES against the heavily favored DALLAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE CRUSADERS. The Eagles faced a very early 10-7 deficit but a 17-2 run put them out in front of the Crusaders. After that the lead went back and forth with Dallas Christian College clinging to a tight 42-40 lead at Halftime. After the break the lead was exchanged several more times before Faith Baptist got a bit of separation, then made clutch free-throws late to preserve a 92-85 upset win. Josh Bray led the Eagles with 28 points while teammates Jon Luke Talton, Ryan Kupferschmid and Aaron Leistikow notched Double Doubles. Continue reading
