COLLEGE BASKETBALL POST-SEASON BEGINS

Well, at least it has in the divisions covered by Balladeer’s Blog, as the NJCAA3 has its first District Champions, plus the Jersey Blues and the Cannoneers advanced.

eastfield-harvesters1DISTRICT 303: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title clash pitted the storied EASTFIELD COLLEGE HARVESTERS against the NORTH LAKE COLLEGE LAKERS. The Harvesters were on fire and by Halftime they led the Lakers by a score of 46-33.

After the break Eastfield College had to fight to keep North Lake College at arm’s length but in the end the Harvesters took the crown with an 83-68 win. Tremondre Anderson’s 22 points led the victors.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS

CENTURY CLUB (Teams scoring 100 points or more in regulation)

Bluefield State Big Blues logoPOINTS A-PLENTY – The BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES hosted the SALEM INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TIGERS yesterday in the most offense-oriented game of the day. By Halftime the Big Blues led the Tigers 75-56, which could be a final score in most games. In the end Bluefield State won by a score of 129-110 with FIFTY-SIX of those points coming from Mark Durgan. 

chaminadeALOHA MEANS ROUNDBALL – The CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY SILVERSWORDS took the court against the visiting BYU-HAWAII SEASIDERS and were far from gracious hosts. The Silverswords were on top of the Seasiders 56-39 at the break enroute to a 115-86 blowout victory. Kuany Kuany (no error) led Chaminade University in scoring by tossing in 24 of his team’s points.  Continue reading

CENTURY CLUB (Teams scoring 100 points or more in regulation)

Hawaii at Hilo VulcansHAWAII ONE-OH-ONE – The UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO VULCANS trailed their guests – the CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY SILVERSWORDS – by a score of 45-36 at Halftime. After the break the Vulcans erupted for 65 points, winning this Instant Classic by a count of 101-99. Salim Gloyd led Hawaii- Hilo with a Double Double of 28 points and 14 rebounds.  

novasoutheasternFINS TO THE LEFT, FINS TO THE RIGHT – (For all you Jimmy Buffett fans) The NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY SHARKS took the court against the visiting BARRY UNIVERSITY BUCCANEERS yesterday. The Sharks were up on the Buccaneers 50-40 by the midpoint then retained the lead for a 105-91 victory. Chris Page tossed in FORTY-ONE points for Nova Southeastern University.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS: USCAA

Spalding Golden EaglesNUMBER SEVEN TAKES A FALL – The SPALDING UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES hosted the 7th ranked IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS yesterday. The Golden Eagles had built up a nice 40-28 lead by Halftime and then went on to win the game in a 78-56 stunner. Brandon Goeing led Spalding University with 26 points.

Miami_University_HamiltonCENTURY CLUB – Teams scoring 100 or more points in Regulation: The MIAMI (OH) AT HAMILTON HARRIERS notched a 100-78 road rout over the SOUTHERN STATE PATRIOTS    ***    The SOUTHERN MAINE SEAWOLVES topped their hosts the UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT MACHIAS CLIPPERS 102-92    ###    And the HUSTON-TILLOTSON UNIVERSITY RAMS obliterated the PAUL QUINN COLLEGE TIGERS to the tune of 123-62.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS: THE LATEST

North Central CardinalsNUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – The 25th ranked NORTH CENTRAL (IL) CARDINALS  provided a shocker yesterday as they hosted the number 2 team in the nation – the ELMHURST COLLEGE BLUE JAYS. The Cardinals parlayed a 36-25 Halftime lead into an 80-62 upset victory. Jagger Anderson led North Central with 20 points. 

Colby White MulesOTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The COLBY COLLEGE WHITE MULES edged the visiting (8) AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS in a 66-64 Instant Classic     ###     And the PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES took it on the road, toppling the (16) WHITMAN COLLEGE MISSIONARIES by the tight final score of 79-74. FINAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE SEASON DECIDED

Florida Southern College MocsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college basketball coverage for the 2014-2015 season officially comes to a close with this final title game in the divisions covered here. The sole remaining 1 seed – the FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS – played the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS. The Crimson Hawks had upset three other 1 seeds along the way (D2 has eight 1 seeds in its tournament) but the Moccasins proved to be too much for them. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: D2 SEMIFINALS

Florida Southern College MocsFINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – This semifinal game pitted two 1 seeds against each other – the FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS and the BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. After an action-packed opening Half the Moccasins held a 40-36 lead over the Knights at the break. In the 2nd Half Florida Southern College withstood all the comeback efforts of Bellarmine University and walked away with a 79-76 victory. FINAL FOUR BERTHS FILLED FOR NCAA DIVISION TWO

IUP Crimson HawksFINAL FOUR – FIRST BERTH – This year four of D2’s eight 1 seeds advanced to these Quarterfinal games. (D2 starts with 8 Regions of 8 teams seeded 1-8) In this particular hardcourt clash the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS toppled the 1 seeded AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Crimson Hawks were trailing the Cougars by just 33-31 at Halftime and after a brutal, hard-fought 2nd Half had defeated Azusa Pacific by a score of 69-65. DALTON STATE ROADRUNNERS ARE NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPS

The 6th seeded Roadrunners defeated the (BD) WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS in last night’s NAIA Basketball Championship Game. Dalton State actually trailed the Warriors by 8 just 5 minutes into the game but by Halftime had come back in style for a 37-21 advantage. Continue reading

NAIA FINAL FOUR: UPSET CITY

* NAIA DIVISION ONE *

dalton state roadrunnersFINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – The 6 seeds – the DALTON STATE ROADRUNNERS – toppled the 2nd seeded TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES in this first semifinal. The Roadrunners came back from being 6 points down to the Tornadoes to tie the game at 29-29 by Halftime. After the break Dalton State made their move, with their defense strangling Talladega College and with their offense slowly but surely getting more and more distance between themselves and the favorites. In the end the Roadrunners advanced to the Championship Game by a score of 64-54. Preston Earle led Dalton State with 16 points and 8 rebounds.   Continue reading
