lindsey wilson blue raidersCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This was a clash between the 3 seeds – the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS – and the 2nd seeded SAINT CATHARINE COLLEGE PATRIOTS. The game was scoreless through 6 Innings before the Blue Raiders notched a run in the top of the 7th. Each team put up 3 runs in the 8th, setting up the 4-3 victory for Lindsey Wilson College. COLLEGE BASEBALL: THE LATEST TOURNAMENT RESULTS

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

georgia gwinnettROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The top seeded GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES faced the 6th seeded ASHFORD UNIVERSITY SAINTS. After 3 scoreless Innings the Grizzlies made it a 1-0 game in the 4th, then exploded for 5 more runs in the 5th and 8th. For their part the Saints could only muster 1 run each in the 6th and 9th Innings. Georgia Gwinnett College won by a score of ELEVEN to TWO. GULF COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Talladega College Tornadoes NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2 seeds – the TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES – tangled with the top seeded EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS in this title game. The contest was scoreless until the 8th Inning when the Tornadoes took a 3-0 lead and followed that up with another run in the 9th for a 4-0 victory. COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON CONTINUES

AMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE

Lyon College ScotsROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The 2 seeds – the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS – played the 7th seeded HANNIBAL- LA GRANGE TROJANS in this game. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Scots put up 5 runs in the 2nd and never looked back from there. Ultimately Lyon College annihilated the hapless Trojans by a final score of TEN to NOTHING. Kraig Kelley was the winning Pitcher for the Scots.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL: CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

KANSAS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Bethany Swedes logoROUND ONE – GAME ONE – This was the only game in Round One of the KCAC Tournament yesterday. The 5 seeds – the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES – battled the 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES in what turned out to be a TWELVE INNING marathon. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Swedes made it a 1-0 game in the 2nd. The Spires tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 6th Inning and neither team scored again until the top of the 12th when Bethany College added 2 more runs. The Swedes shut out USM in the bottom of the Inning for a 3-1 triumph. Pitcher Robert Johnson got the save.

COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON UNDERWAY

For the next six weeks we’ll have daily coverage of college baseball conference and national tournaments mixed in with my usual topics. 

* CCCAA *

Irvine Valley College LasersSO-CAL DIVISION – ROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The CCCAA postseason got started with a game pitting the 17 seeds – the IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE LASERS – against the 16th seeded LOS ANGELES MISSION COLLEGE EAGLES. The Eagles converted a 2-0 1st Inning edge into a 6-0 advantage by the 5th Inning. In the top of the 7th the Lasers made it a 6-2 ballgame then exploded in the 8th Inning for TEN runs to take a 12-6 lead. They shut out Los Angeles Mission College the rest of the way while adding 4 more runs themselves for a 16-6 comeback victory. Irvine Valley College Pitcher Justin Zielinski improved to 8-2 with this win.   Continue reading

COLLEGE WORLD SERIES RESULTS

If it’s Memorial Day that means the usual orgy of college baseball action! Yesterday the NAIA had a day off but action continued in the College World Series for the NCAA Divisions Two and Three as well as all three divisions of the NJCAA.

Seton Hill Griffins logoDAY TWO – GAME ONE – The SETON HILL UNIVERSITY GRIFFINS got cooking immediately in this game, taking a 3-0 lead in the 1st Inning. Their opponents – the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS – made it a 3-2 ballgame in the 2nd Inning bringing an end to the scoring until the Griffins added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th. Seton Hill’s Mike Bittel was the winning pitcher in this 4-2 affair.    Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL: WORLD SERIES ACTION IN THE NAIA, NCAA DIVISIONS TWO AND THREE PLUS THE NJCAA AND CCCAA

southern polytechnic running hornetsDAY TWO – GAME ONE – The 8th seeded SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC RUNNING HORNETS faced the 5th seeded GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS in the first elimination game of the 2014 World Series. A 1-1 tie in the 3rd Inning became a 3-1 lead for the Running Hornets in the 4th. That grew to a 4-1 advantage in the top of the 6th but the Tigers tied things up at 4-4 in their half of the Inning. Southern Polytechnic added another run in the top of the 7th and rode that to a 5-4 final score. Pitcher Brantley Burton got the win.  Continue reading

THE LATEST COLLEGE BASEBALL RESULTS

Herkimer College GeneralsDISTRICT 3-A – CHAMPIONSHIP – Yesterday saw the final three games to decide this District’s title. First the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS lambasted the ERIE COLLEGE KATS in an 11-3 manhandling.   ###   Then the ONONDAGA COLLEGE LASERS utterly annihilated what little remained of Erie College’s self esteem. The Lasers eviscerated the Kats THIRTEEN to NOTHING.   ###   And finally in the title clash itself the Herkimer College Generals masterfully tripled the offensive output of the Onondaga Lasers, defeating them by a score of 9-3. * THE GENERALS ADVANCE TO THE NJCAA3 WORLD SERIES! *  

Tyler ApachesDISTRICT 3-C – CHAMPIONSHIP – Over the course of this District’s tourney each of the other title contenders had fallen by the wayside. The North Lake College Blazers, the Coastal Bend College Cougars and the North Arkansas College Pioneers all ended their postseason runs one day short of the championship game. The TYLER COLLEGE APACHES and the EASTFIELD COLLEGE HARVESTERS were the two teams left standing. Though both schools have storied baseball teams the Apaches completely dominated yesterday, routing the Harvesters ELEVEN to ONE! * THE APACHES ADVANCE TO THE NJCAA3 WORLD SERIES! Continue reading
