newportnewsapprentice-school-builderDAY THREE – GAME ONE – In this game the 5 seeds – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS – took the diamond against the 6th seeded COLLEGE OF SAINT JOSEPH’S (sic) FIGHTING SAINTS. The Builders had hot bats very early and by the end of the 1st Inning led 5-0, then rode that advantage all the way to a 5-2 victory. The winning Pitcher for Newport News Apprentice School was Sam Massie.

St Joseph's College Brooklyn BearsDAY THREE – GAME TWO – Up next the 9th seeded SAINT JOSEPH’S COLLEGE- BROOKLYN BEARS managed another huge upset, this time against the 3 seeds – the TENNESSEE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. A 2-0 2nd Inning edge for the Bears became a 2-2 game in the 5th. Saint Joseph’s College put up another run each in the 6th and 7th Innings for a 4-2 final score. Brian Luebcke pitched for the win. 

Illinois Tech Scarlet HawksDAY THREE – GAME THREE – This was a magnificent Pitcher’s Duel between the top seeded ILLINOIS TECH SCARLET HAWKS and the 2nd seeded PENN STATE AT GREATER ALLEGHENY NITTANY LIONS. The game was scoreless all te way until the Scarlet Hawks notched a run in the bottom of the 7th Inning. This 1-0 classic was won by James Tarala. 

Newport News ASDAY THREE – GAME FOUR – And the (5) NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS ended the run of upsets enjoyed by the (9) ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE- BROOKLYN BEARS. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Builders went up 2-0 in the 2nd. Finding themselves trailing 4-3 in the 3rd Inning NNAS rallied for a 5-4 triumph. Pitcher James Anthony got the W.
