PULP HERO NORTHWEST SMITH: STORIES FIVE AND SIX

Northwest Smith: C.L. Moore's ruthless swashbuckler of the spaceways.

Northwest Smith: C.L. Moore’s ruthless swashbuckler of the spaceways.

Balladeer’s Blog continues its examination of another neglected pulp hero – in this case Northwest Smith. Created by the female author C.L. Moore in the 1930′s Northwest Smith was a ruthless outer-space smuggler and mercenary decades before Han Solo. With his Venusian partner Yarol at his side and armed with a trusty blaster Smith roamed the solar system in his deceptively fast spaceship The Maid. In the course of their criminal pursuits the two often found themselves in the role of reluctant heroes, sometimes with the fate of entire planets at stake. For more on Northwest Smith and other neglected pulp heroes click here: https://glitternight.com/pulp-heroes/

5. JULHI (1935) – After a smuggling run to Venus Northwest Smith foolishly lets his guard down in an underworld tavern and gets shanghaied away to the Venusian island called Vonng. Smith is the latest kidnap victim from lowlife hangouts to wake up weaponless on the deserted island as a sacrifice to Julhi, a lovely yet monstrous creature with a beautiful upper body but multiple lower limbs.

Julhi is just one of a race whose dimension shares the same space as Vonng’s crumbled ruins but where time passes much more slowly than in our realm. The story wouldn’t be out of place on the renewed Doctor Who series. Julhi and her kind are psychic vampires, draining memories and emotions from their prey like a traditional vampire drains blood to survive. Continue reading

* GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

Mount Marty LancersMORNING GAMES – The 7th seeded MOUNT MARTY COLLEGE LANCERS shocked the country yesterday with their SEVENTEEN to FIVE lambasting of the 2nd seeded NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS. The Lancers led 3-1 at the end of the 1st Inning and never looked back enroute to this colossal upset.   ###

Briar Cliff University Chargers logoAnd speaking of shockers the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS came in as the 8 seeds but toppled the TOP SEEDED DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS  3-1!  ###   The 5th seeded DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS kept the upset mojo going by beating the 4th seeded MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS in an 8-1 buttkicking.   ###   And the 3rd seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS were the only higher seed to win in the morning games. The Warriors eviscerated the 6th seeded HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS to the tune of ELEVEN to ONE!

Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders logoEVENING GAMES – The (2) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS bounced back from their morning loss and won a 1-0 pitcher’s duel to eliminate the (6) HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS. A 4th Inning run was the game’s only offensive production.   ###   Meanwhile the (4) MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS sent the incredibly disappointing top seeds – the DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS – home with their 8-7 win in an Instant Classic.   ###   The (3) MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS won a 7-4 thriller over the (7) MOUNT MARTY COLLEGE LANCERS.   ###   And the (5) DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS also went 2-0 for the day with an 8-3 triumph over the (8) BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS.  Continue reading

BENGHAZI: OBAMA’S WATERGATE CONTINUES TO DOG HIM … AND RIGHTLY SO

A piece of political sewage who bubbled and gurgled up from the cesspool of Chicago politics.

A piece of political sewage who bubbled and gurgled up from the cesspool of Chicago politics.

Welcome back to Balladeer’s Blog, the only site on the web that criticizes American Liberals and American Conservatives equally. After a legal battle of nearly two years (“Dude” as Obama’s graceless NSA advisor emeritus Tommy Vietor said last night) the Obama administration was forced to release more information on the Benghazi scandal and coverup. (These repeated new releases of incriminating details after prolonged legal battles are another way this is like Watergate, by the way)

To the surprise of nobody but Little Barry’s unquestioning legion of fascistic followers the latest release verifies that, par for the course, Obama’s administration was once again LYING about the attack at the U.S. diplomatic compound. Four Americans, including our Ambassador, died in the terrorist attack but Obama’s White House lied and ORDERED OTHERS TO LIE to cover it all up because the 2012 election was fast approaching. To a piece of absolute filth like Obama it was better to let those people die by neglecting the need for more security AND by ignoring their desperate pleas for help. Yes, better to do that than have the voters realize that Al Qaeda was NOT on the run as he claimed.

As I stated in 2012 the whole incident seemed like Obama’s people were terrified Benghazi would become his version of the Tet Offensive which put the lie to Lyndon Johnson’s claims that the Vietnam War was on the verge of being won. To a repulsive demagogue like Little Barry it was much easier to let them die and then have an innocent man arrested by claiming that his youtube video which showed irreverence to Islam was really to blame and that the pre-planned attack was really a “spontaneous protest”.

I don’t know how dead inside Obama must be to do something like that and then to LIE OVER THE COFFINS OF THE VICTIMS OF YOUR OWN VENALITY AND NARCISSISM. This nauseating little toad of a man has gone out of his way to prove he is the worst president the United States has ever had.  Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM APRIL 30th

* SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

PrintUPSET OF THE DAY – The SSAC’s 8th seeded AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY WARHAWKS (formerly the Senators) delivered the shock of the day yesterday. The Warhawks rose up and dragged down the conference’s top seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES in an undeniable Instant Classic. The Eagles were leading 2-0 going into the top of the 8th Inning when the Warhawk bats came to life, seizing a 4-2 lead. Faulkner, the defending national champions of NAIA college baseball, pulled to 4-3 in their half of the Inning and AUM responded by adding another run in the top of the 9th. The Warhawks limited the Eagles to just 1 run themselves in the bottom of the Inning and nabbed a 5-4 victory! AUM’s P.J. Leto got the win!

brewtonparkerTHEY HAD ‘EM ALL THE WAY! – With apologies to the late baseball broadcaster Bob Prince. The 2nd seeded BREWTON- PARKER COLLEGE BARONS well and truly had their First Round opponents – the 7th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE RAMS – all the way. A 2-0 lead after the 1st Inning became 3-0 after the 2nd, 4-0 after the 5th and 6-0 after the 6th! The Rams finally got on the board in the top of the 8th Inning with a pair of runs but the Barons added another run of their own to make it 7-2, which would hold up as the final score! For the Barons Mike Venturelli walked away with the win.   Continue reading
