scottsdale fighting artichokesSOUTHWEST DISTRICT: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – From Marich Field in Phoenix, AZ came this clash for the Southwest District Crown. The 4 seeds – the SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES (Yes, really) took on the 3rd seeded PHOENIX COLLEGE BEARS. The Fighting Artichokes moved on to the National Tournament by winning this game with comparative ease. MORE COLLEGE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT RESULTS

NORTH STAR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

Mayville State Comets BIGCHAMPIONSHIP SERIES – The top seeded MAYVILLE STATE COMETS had to face the Cinderella 6 seeds – the DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS – for the NSAA Championship. The Comets were undefeated in tournament play, so even though the Blue Hawks surprised them in Game One by crushing them 10-1 all that did was force a decisive second game. In Game Two Mayville State converted a 1-0 1st Inning lead into a 3-1 edge in the 3rd and 7-1 in the 7th on their way to an 8-1 victory. MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE

lindsey wilson blue raidersCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This was a clash between the 3 seeds – the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS – and the 2nd seeded SAINT CATHARINE COLLEGE PATRIOTS. The game was scoreless through 6 Innings before the Blue Raiders notched a run in the top of the 7th. Each team put up 3 runs in the 8th, setting up the 4-3 victory for Lindsey Wilson College. COLLEGE BASEBALL: THE LATEST TOURNAMENT RESULTS

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

georgia gwinnettROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The top seeded GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES faced the 6th seeded ASHFORD UNIVERSITY SAINTS. After 3 scoreless Innings the Grizzlies made it a 1-0 game in the 4th, then exploded for 5 more runs in the 5th and 8th. For their part the Saints could only muster 1 run each in the 6th and 9th Innings. Georgia Gwinnett College won by a score of ELEVEN to TWO. GULF COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Talladega College Tornadoes NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2 seeds – the TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES – tangled with the top seeded EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS in this title game. The contest was scoreless until the 8th Inning when the Tornadoes took a 3-0 lead and followed that up with another run in the 9th for a 4-0 victory. COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON CONTINUES

AMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE

Lyon College ScotsROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The 2 seeds – the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS – played the 7th seeded HANNIBAL- LA GRANGE TROJANS in this game. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Scots put up 5 runs in the 2nd and never looked back from there. Ultimately Lyon College annihilated the hapless Trojans by a final score of TEN to NOTHING. Kraig Kelley was the winning Pitcher for the Scots.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL: CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

KANSAS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Bethany Swedes logoROUND ONE – GAME ONE – This was the only game in Round One of the KCAC Tournament yesterday. The 5 seeds – the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES – battled the 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES in what turned out to be a TWELVE INNING marathon. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Swedes made it a 1-0 game in the 2nd. The Spires tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 6th Inning and neither team scored again until the top of the 12th when Bethany College added 2 more runs. The Swedes shut out USM in the bottom of the Inning for a 3-1 triumph. Pitcher Robert Johnson got the save.

COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON UNDERWAY

For the next six weeks we’ll have daily coverage of college baseball conference and national tournaments mixed in with my usual topics.

Irvine Valley College LasersSO-CAL DIVISION – ROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The CCCAA postseason got started with a game pitting the 17 seeds – the IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE LASERS – against the 16th seeded LOS ANGELES MISSION COLLEGE EAGLES. The Eagles converted a 2-0 1st Inning edge into a 6-0 advantage by the 5th Inning. In the top of the 7th the Lasers made it a 6-2 ballgame then exploded in the 8th Inning for TEN runs to take a 12-6 lead. They shut out Los Angeles Mission College the rest of the way while adding 4 more runs themselves for a 16-6 comeback victory. Irvine Valley College Pitcher Justin Zielinski improved to 8-2 with this win.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL RESULTS

New Jersey City U Gothic KnightsPUTTING A CRIMP IN SENIOR DAY – The NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS handed their hosts – the WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PIONEERS – a split in the Senior Day Double Header they played. After losing the first game 15-12 the Gothic Knights trailed 4-3 in the 2nd Inning of Game Two. The NJCU bats tied the game at 4-4 in the 3rd Inning on their way to a 9-4 lead by the 6th. From there the Gothic Knights held on for a 9-7 win. NJCU Pitcher Kevin Demauro went an Iron Man 9 Innings for the victory. Continue reading
