RANGERS TOPPLE THE APACHES – The unranked KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS took the field against the number 8 team in the nation – the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES. The Rangers trailed the visiting Apaches 10-0 to end the 1st Quarter but pulled to within 16-14 by Halftime. After the break Kilgore College took control, ultimately upsetting Tyler College in a 50-29 rout.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The number 11 COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS traveled to face the 17th ranked DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS in a Jayhawk Conference showdown. The Red Ravens seized a 14-6 1st Quarter lead and expanded that to a 24-12 advantage by the midpoint. The 3rd Quarter ended with Coffeyville College clinging to a 24-19 edge over the Conquistadors. EIGHT AND O – The top 2 teams in the rankings are a perfect 8-0 now. The number 1 team in the nation – the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS – thrashed their hosts the 12th ranked DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS 36-7 ### And the number 2 ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE MATADORS won a 21-9 road game against the unranked PIMA COLLEGE AZTECS.
NUMBER ONE GETS DETHRONED – The 4th ranked EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS welcomed the number 1 team in the nation – the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS. The Lions seized a 7-0 edge in the opening Quarter and built that into a 24-17 advantage at Halftime. After a tight 3rd Quarter East Mississippi College exploded for 20 points in the 4th, winning the game 51-32.
THE ALL-NAME GAME OF THE WEEK – The SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES (yes, really) traveled to face the EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE GILA MONSTERS. The Fighting Artichokes managed a 12-8 1st Quarter lead and then took charge from there. At the break they led the Gila Monsters 19-8 on their way to a FIFTY-TWO to TWENTY evisceration of their opponents.
NUMBER THREE GETS KNOCKED OFF – The unranked BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS traveled to face the number 3 team in the nation – the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES. A 14-14 tie at Halftime became a 29-24 edge for the Buccaneers to end the 3rd Quarter. From there Blinn College toppled the Apaches by a final score of 50-35.
NUMBER SIX TAKES A FALL – The COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK played host to the 6th ranked JONES COUNTY COLLEGE BOBCATS and improved to 2-2 with the win. The Wolfpack trailed the Bobcats 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but had managed a 10-9 edge by Halftime. Jones County went back up 15-13 by the end of the 3rd Quarter but Copiah-Lincoln came back in the 4th to win it 27-22.
AND NUMBER SEVEN COMES TUMBLING AFTER – Meanwhile the GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS visited the number 7 team in the nation – the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS. By the end of the opening Quarter the Bulldogs led the Chaparrals 10-7, a score which was unchanged at the break. An action-packed 2nd Half saw Georgia Military College complete the upset by a final count of 24-12.
REIVERS BEAT DOWN BUTLER – In a meeting of two power-packed teams the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS thoroughly dismantled the traditional bullies on the block of the Jayhawk Conference – the BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Reivers went up 14-0 by Halftime and never looked back. Iowa Western won by a final tally of FORTY-NINE to SEVEN!
FAIRMONT STATE ON TOP – The FAIRMONT STATE FIGHTING FALCONS traveled to take on the WEST LIBERTY STATE HILLTOPPERS in what turned out to be the game of the night. The Fighting Falcons trailed the Hilltoppers 3-0 in the 1st Quarter, 17-7 at Halftime and 20-7 to end the 3rd. In the 4th Quarter Fairmont State surged from behind for a 21-20 triumph. The Fighting Falcons are now 3-0 for 2016.
MARIAN UNIVERSITY RULES THE WORLD – Every week multiple NAIA teams upset teams from higher divisions. Starting us off this week are the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS from the NAIA, who traveled to face the NCAA Division Two team the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS. The Knights showed the Greyhounds how it’s done, spanking them 38-16.
DOANE COLLEGE PLAYED GIANT-SLAYER, TOO – The NAIA’s DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS were on the road against the NCAA Division Two team the WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE CARDINALS. The Tigers nearly doubled-up on their higher division opponent in a 23-12 upset. These wins over higher division foes count as 2 wins in the rivalry so this made it NAIA-4, D3-0 so far this week.
LANGSTON RULES THE WORLD – The NAIA tradition of upsetting higher division teams at least once a week continues! The LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS were guests of the NCAA Division TWO team the LINCOLN (MO) UNIVERSITY BLUE TIGERS. The Lions proceeded to mar this game called the L.U. Classic, toppling the home team by a final score of 23-13.
THE JAVELINAS ALSO RULE THE WORLD – The NCAA Division Two team called the TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS took it on the road against the Division ONE team the UNIVERSITY OF THE INCARNATE WORD CARDINALS. When the dust had settled in this thrilling game the Javelinas had also brought down a higher division team, in this case by a count of 31-22.
