COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 8th

Babson College BeaversNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS hosted the 3rd-ranked team in the nation, the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS yesterday in a game that shocked the nation. By Halftime the unranked Beavers had compiled a 36-28 lead and didn’t let up in the 2nd Half, notching a 71-62 upset win when all was said and done. Babson was led by Joey Flannery with 20 points.

castleton_logo2YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! – The CASTLETON STATE COLLEGE SPARTANS scored an unbelievable ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN points yesterday! The Spartans were on the road against the GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE EAGLES and scored 78 points in the FIRST HALF ALONE for a 38 point Halftime lead! That point total would have been enough to win an entire game in many instances but Castleton State was just warming up and went back home with a 137-97 win.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM JANUARY 10th AND 11th

Environ Science and Forestry Mighty OaksTHE MIGHTY OAKS RULE THE WORLD – The COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND FORESTRY out of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) traveled to take on the NCAA’s ALFRED STATE PIONEERS. At Halftime the upstart Mighty Oaks led 43-39 but by the end of regulation the Pioneers had tied it all up at 75 apiece. The score stood at 85-85 at the end of the first Overtime but the second Overtime ended with the Mighty Oaks eking out a 96-95 upset win.

Amherst Lord Jeffs logoTOP 25 UPSETS – The 8th ranked AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS welcomed their archrivals, the number 5 WILLIAMS COLLEGE EPHS (“eephs”) and wound up toppling them 84-73. SHORTER PEOPLE GOT PLENTY OF REASONS TO LIVE – The National Christian College Athletic Association tournament has provided us with plenty of exciting basketball since its Wednesday tipoff. True to form the NCCAA Championship Game boasted a wealth of drama as well, with the SHORTER UNIVERSITY HAWKS and the OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES going into Overtime before the new champs were crowned.

OCU was going for its second title in the past three years but the Hawks would have none of it. When the dust had settled in the extra session Shorter University emerged with a 90-87 victory in this Instant Classic. Enroute to the title game SU defeated Mid- America Christian University and top- seeded Fresno Pacific University. Congratulations to the Hawks!

Montana Western BulldogsNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – Perennial basketball powers the (3) LEE UNIVERSITY FLAMES were upset yesterday by the (14) MONTANA WESTERN BULLDOGS. The Bulldogs are the only Frontier Conference team left in the tournament and did the league proud with their 83-73 shocker over the Flames. Montana Western came back from a 34-31 halftime deficit to stun the nation.

LSU-Shreve bigCRUSADE OF THE RIVERBOAT PILOTS – The LSU- SHREVEPORT PILOTS put together an upset of their own last night.  BLUE RAIDERS OVER GEORGETOWN – The NAIA’s 16th- ranked LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS survived a clash of ranked titans yesterday. The Blue Raiders upset the number 10 GEORGETOWN (KY) TIGERS on the Tigers’ own turf. The final score in this memorable matchup was 71-69.

NOTEWORTHY COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 11TH

 SOMETIMES THE GAME EXCEEDS THE HYPE – Yesterday’s nearly sole clash between ranked teams in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics ) exceeded all the hype surrounding the game going in. The number 5 GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS (logo at left) traveled to face the 20th- ranked SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS and emerged with an 89-87 victory in an undeniable Instant Classic. The Lancers trailed 49-44 at halftime but regrouped in the 2nd half to come out on top in this game for the ages.  

NUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – In NCAA D3 action, the 2nd- ranked MIDDLEBURY PANTHERS were upset on the road by the number 6 AMHERST LORD JEFFS. The final score in this overtime Battle Royal was 77-75.
