USCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPS CROWNED + MORE POSTSEASON ACTION

USCAA DIVISION ONE

rochestercollegewarriorsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – A pair of Cinderellas vied for the Division One title in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). The 5th seeded ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS played the 6 seeds – the OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY AMBASSADORS.

The Warriors grabbed a 35-25 lead by Halftime and after the break kept getting more and more separation from the Ambassadors. The final score in this game was Rochester College 80  Oakwood University 61. Justin Nafso’s 27 points led the victors. * THE WARRIORS ARE USCAA CHAMPIONS * Continue reading

BASKETBALL: BIBLE COLLEGE NIT AND USCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

BIBLE COLLEGE NIT

Mid-Atlantic Christian U MustangsDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4 seeds – the MID-ATLANTIC CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS – took the court against the 5th seeded DAYSPRING BIBLE COLLEGE EAGLES (I told you there are too many teams called Eagles).

This was a tight game at the break, as the Mustangs held a slim 34-30 edge over the Eagles. In the 2nd Half Mid-Atlantic Christian University asserted themselves, getting more and more separation from Dayspring Bible College, ultimately winning the game by a score of 74-55. DaQuon Copeland tossed in 15 points to lead the Mustangs.   Continue reading

USCAA NATIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS UNDERWAY IN BOTH DIVISIONS

USCAA DIVISION ONE

Florida National University ConquistadorsDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 2018 Tournament in Division One of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) tipped off with the top seeded FLORIDA NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CONQUISTADORS taking on the 8 seeds – the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG B’s.

The Conquistadors were well and truly manhandling the Big B’s, leading them 41-28 by Halftime. After the break Florida National University kept Bluefield State at arm’s length the rest of the way, ultimately defeating them 82-68. Terence Johnson led the way for the Conquistadors with his Double Double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. 

Oakwood AmbassadorsDAY ONE, GAME TWO – Up next the 6 seeds – the OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY AMBASSADORS – surprised the 3rd seeded FLORIDA COLLEGE FALCONS.

The Ambassadors officially put the Falcons on Upset Alert by the break as they led them by a count of 40-34. Though Florida College outscored Oakwood University 37-32 in the 2nd Half the Ambassadors emerged with a 72-71 triumph. Ollie Felps’ 14 points led Oakwood U, reflecting what a true Team Effort this upset was. 

Maine Fort Kent BengalsDAY ONE, GAME THREE – This game pitted the 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT FORT KENT BENGALS against the 7 seeds – the DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS.

The 1st Half ended with the Bengals holding a commanding 37-26 advantage over the Bulldogs. From there the pursuing Dean College nibbled a tiny bit out of the University of Maine at Fort Kent lead but still lost to them 80-71. The Bengals were led by Anthony Knight with his 24 points. COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE

uc merced golden bobcatsFIRST SEMIFINAL – End of a Dynasty! The 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT MERCED GOLDEN BOBCATS ended the half-decade run in which the (3) CALIFORNIA MARITIME ACADEMY KEELHAULERS dominated the Cal Pacific Conference.

The opening Half was a Defensive Epic, ending with the Golden Bobcats on top of the Keelhaulers 29-21. Cal Maritime, as usual, didn’t give up and forced Overtime with a 55-55 tie to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime session ended knotted up at 63-63 but in the 2nd OT UC-Merced emerged with a 71-70 triumph! Cole Taira led this consummate team effort with his 12 points.

University of Antelope Valley PioneersSECOND SEMIFINAL – This game pitted the top seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF ANTELOPE VALLEY PIONEERS – against the 4th seeded SIMPSON (CA) UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS.

The Pioneers made sure to avoid all the sturm und drang of the First Semifinal and bolted out to a 42-30 lead over the Red Hawks by the Half. From there Antelope Valley’s virtual Teenage Crime Wave continued (bad movie fans will get it) as they smothered Simpson U by a final count of 83-58. The Pioneers were led by Sheldon Blackwell’s 19 points and 6 rebounds. 

THE SUN CONFERENCE

thomas-university-night-hawks-bigOPENING ROUND, GAME ONE – The 3rd seeded THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS took the court against the 6 seeds – the COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA MARINERS.

The Nighthawks utterly dominated the Mariners on both sides of the ball and held a commanding 42-28 lead by Halftime. After the break Thomas University coasted the rest of the way for a 77-65 victory. Katrell Myers tossed in 24 points to lead the way for the Nighthawks. Continue reading

THREE COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONS CROWNED

*** USCAA DIVISION ONE ***

Concordia (AL) LogoNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2nd seeded CONCORDIA (AL) COLLEGE HORNETS and the 4 seeds – the ILLINOIS TECH SCARLET HAWKS – battled for the title in Division One of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association).

The Scarlet Hawks ended the 1st Half on top of the Hornets 33-27 but Concordia College made with one of their patented comebacks. In the end the Hornets took the crown by a final score of 61-51. Dennis Miles led Concordia with a Double Double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. * THE HORNETS ARE CHAMPIONS OF USCAA DIVISION ONE *   Continue reading

FINAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE SEASON DECIDED

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Florida Southern College MocsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college basketball coverage for the 2014-2015 season officially comes to a close with this final title game in the divisions covered here. The sole remaining 1 seed – the FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS – played the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS. The Crimson Hawks had upset three other 1 seeds along the way (D2 has eight 1 seeds in its tournament) but the Moccasins proved to be too much for them. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: D2 SEMIFINALS

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Florida Southern College MocsFINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – This semifinal game pitted two 1 seeds against each other – the FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS and the BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. After an action-packed opening Half the Moccasins held a 40-36 lead over the Knights at the break. In the 2nd Half Florida Southern College withstood all the comeback efforts of Bellarmine University and walked away with a 79-76 victory. Dominique Williams led the Moccasins with his 22 points.   Continue reading

FINAL FOUR BERTHS FILLED FOR NCAA DIVISION TWO

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

IUP Crimson HawksFINAL FOUR – FIRST BERTH – This year four of D2’s eight 1 seeds advanced to these Quarterfinal games. (D2 starts with 8 Regions of 8 teams seeded 1-8) In this particular hardcourt clash the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS toppled the 1 seeded AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Crimson Hawks were trailing the Cougars by just 33-31 at Halftime and after a brutal, hard-fought 2nd Half had defeated Azusa Pacific by a score of 69-65. Devante Chance led IUP with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.   Continue reading

DALTON STATE ROADRUNNERS ARE NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPS

dalton state roadrunnersCall it The Year of the Roadrunner! The DALTON STATE ROADRUNNERS have won their first ever National Championship. The 6th seeded Roadrunners defeated the (BD) WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS in last night’s NAIA Basketball Championship Game. Dalton State actually trailed the Warriors by 8 just 5 minutes into the game but by Halftime had come back in style for a 37-21 advantage. Continue reading

NAIA FINAL FOUR: UPSET CITY

* NAIA DIVISION ONE *

dalton state roadrunnersFINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – The 6 seeds – the DALTON STATE ROADRUNNERS – toppled the 2nd seeded TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES in this first semifinal. The Roadrunners came back from being 6 points down to the Tornadoes to tie the game at 29-29 by Halftime. After the break Dalton State made their move, with their defense strangling Talladega College and with their offense slowly but surely getting more and more distance between themselves and the favorites. In the end the Roadrunners advanced to the Championship Game by a score of 64-54. Preston Earle led Dalton State with 16 points and 8 rebounds.   Continue reading
