With the passing of the one and only Val Kilmer here’s a look at his debut movie, Top Secret.
TOP SECRET (1984)
Directed and written by the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams, Top Secret is the Citizen Kane of movies which simultaneously parody spy movies and Elvis Presley flicks.
Val Kilmer, in the years before he took himself way too seriously, could truly do it all and masterfully stars as rock music idol Nick Rivers. Nick gets caught up in an anachronistic World War Two-style spy movie which also incorporates elements of Elvis’ Harum Scarum but with Nazi stereotypes instead of Arab stereotypes.
The A to Z comedy stylings of Abrahams and the Zuckers scored once again with this raucous comedy which is a hysterical hit and yet is STILL underrated, all at once. And it’s a terrific reminder of how dynamic Val Kilmer was.
It’s easy to see hints at his future successes in Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, The Ghost and the Darkness and so many other films from the raw talent he displayed here.

Sorry, I wanted, in fact, to generate the 😢 icon.
With Val Kilmer a part of my childhood has gone as well. Well… We want get any younger 🙁
Oh, I see. Yeah, I feel pretty much the same.
Mr. Kilmer has left behind a legacy that will not soon be forgotten.
That is certainly the truth!
I am so saddened to hear of his passing. I loved him. He will be missed. He had a pretty hard life, yet he was always a beacon of light.
I agree. He had a lot of talent and improved everything he was in.
We watched The Saint last night to honor Val. RIP Iceman and Doc Holliday.
Great choice! That film is underrated!
I agree. It’s a good film. I liked the TV series too, with Roger Moore. 🙂
Oh yeah! I sometimes forget about the tv show version!
I loved Roger Moore in anything. 🙂
I see!
Im doing a comparison of Tutti Fruti by Van Klimer and other artists with comments

Thank you for saying so! I’m glad to do it!
Thanks, Balladeer, you’re a star! 🌟 I was thinking of watching a Val Kilmer movie after I found out the news yesterday, and this one sounds perfect! Not into Top Gun, you see!
Glad to do it! I understand, especially since he’s not really the star of Top Gun.
Lulu: “Our Dada seemed rather upset to hear this news the other day. Something about somebody being somebody’s huckleberry …”
Yep, your Dada is in a degree of mourning like so many of us.
He was great in The Doors! RIP!
Yes he was!
Thanks
Anytime!
