TWENTY MORE COOL FOOTBALL HELMETS

With too many sporting events getting canceled these days here’s a new Top Twenty List for 2020 here at Balladeer’s Blog. This one examines some neglected football helmets. 

EASTWOOD TROOPERS Comment: Why aren’t there more teams called Troopers?

WEATHERFORD KANGAROOS

Comment: Awesome name and awesome lids.

LEWISVILLE FARMERSComment: There’s something about the stark simplicity of these helmets paired up with the unique name the Farmers.

EISENHOWER EAGLESComment: Yes, that’s Eisenhower as in General and President Dwight Eisenhower aka “Ike.”

SOUTHLAKE CARROLL DRAGONS

Comment: I’ve seen better Dragons helmets out there but I’ve also seen worse.

TIMBERVIEW WOLVES Comment: These helmets look as lethal as the animals the team is named after.

SOUTH GARLAND COLONELSComment: Swords manage to accentuate any helmet.

MESQUITE SKEETERSComment: Yes, that’s Skeeters as in Mosquitos, another unique name to go with a cool helmet.

MORTON RANCH MAVERICKSComment: Purple and Black go great with the name Mavericks.

DEER PARK DEERComment: Okay, so I’m a sucker for cool helmets especially when the team name is unique.

NEW BRAUNFELS UNICORNSComment: Here’s a case where the coolness of the team name made up for the comparative blandness of their helmets.

SAN BENITO GREYHOUNDSComment: That mascot on the helmet deserves to get its own cartoon series.

CLEMENTS RANGERSComment: Who were those masked men? They were the Clements Raaaangers. Had to be said.

CLEAR FALLS KNIGHTSComment: Who can resist a helmet with swords AND a shield? Not me, that’s for sure.

VANDEGRIFT VIPERS

Comment: The Vipers manage the Hat Trick of having a virtually unique team name, a butt-kicking logo and terrific helmets.

FRISCO RACCOONS

Comment: Let’s face it, Raccoons is one seriously underused name when it comes to sports teams. If the Raccoon tails on these helmets were just a bit bigger they’d be perfect.

CIGARROA TOROS

Comment: Some readers tell me they don’t really care for helmets with white shells but I think they can look good with the right kind of logo on them.

KERRVILLE-TIVEY ANTLERS

Comment: There’s something about these helmets that grows on me more and more.

CHAVEZ LOBOS

Comment: As Lobos teams go, these helmets are easily in the top ten. Maybe even top five.

LONGVIEW PIRATES

Comment: More swords on these helmets and on top of that the artwork has a certain Pirates of the Caribbean feel.
