NJCAA DIVISION THREE
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The 3 seeds – the CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES – faced the top seeded ROWAN COLLEGE AT GLOUCESTER COUNTY ROADRUNNERS. The Dukes put the Roadrunners on Upset Alert immediately by grabbing a 6-0 lead in the 1st Inning.
That became a 7-2 advantage by the 3rd Inning and 8-4 to end the 5th. From there each team drove in 3 additional Runs as Cumberland County College won the game by a final tally of 11-7. Michael Miles pitched for 9 Iron Man Innings for the victors. * THE DUKES ARE CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA DIVISION THREE BASEBALL *
FIRST SEMIFINAL: This game pitted the 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS against the top seeds – the TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Drovers seized a 2-0 lead in the 2nd.
USAO converted that into a 5-0 advantage in the 3rd Inning but by the end of the 5th the Bulldogs had cut that to a 5-2 edge. The Drovers lead shrunk to 8-5 in the 7th Inning but Tennessee Wesleyan College could only muster 1 more Run the rest of the way to give USAO an 8-6 triumph. The winning Pitcher was Rudy Gonzalez.
SECOND SEMIFINAL: The 6 seeds – the SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS – clashed with the 5th seeded GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES. Neither team scored in 7 out of 9 Innings in this game.
The Bobcats (should be the Tomcats) drove in 4 Runs in the 3rd Inning while the Grizzlies drove in just 1 in the 4th. Saint Thomas University won the game 4-1 behind the pitching of Orlando Rodriguez.
NJCAA DIVISION ONE
DAY FIVE: The IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS took the diamond against the WALTERS STATE SENATORS. A 2-0 1st Inning lead for the Reivers became a 5-3 advantage for the Senators in the 3rd and 8-3 in the 4th.
Iowa Western College shut out Walters State the rest of the way while adding Runs of their own in the 6th, 7th and 9th Innings for an 11-8 victory. Pitcher Trystan Kimmel picked up the Save.
NJCAA DIVISION TWO
DAY FIVE, GAME ONE: The 8 seeds – the PASCO-HERNANDO STATE CONQUISTADORS – squared off against the 5th seeded NORTHERN OKLAHOMA COLLEGE AT ENID JETS. Neither team could keep the other off the scoreboard in this game.
The Jets were on top of the Conquistadors 7-6 by the 3rd Inning. The 9th ended with the score deadlocked at 10-10. In the 10th Inning Pasco-Hernando State drove in 2 Runs to the 1 mustered by Northern Oklahoma College at Enid to win it 12-11. Sean Osceola threw for the win.
DAY FIVE, GAME TWO: This game pitted the 3rd seeded MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS against the 2 seeds – the MADISON COLLEGE WOLFPACK. By the 2nd Inning the teams were tied up 1-1.
The Thunderbirds went up 4-1 in the 3rd before the Wolfpack pulled to within 4-3 in the 4th Inning. A Pitcher’s Duel commenced, ending when Mesa College notched 7 more Runs in the 8th Inning, going on to win the game by a final tally of 11-3. Cody Tucker pitched the full game for the Thunderbirds.
