Balladeer’s Blog’s readers just love these! Here are some more before pro football season is over.
DOWNINGTON WEST WHIPPETS
Comments: WHIPPET! Whippet GOOD! Long-time readers of Balladeer’s Blog will surely remember George the Whippet and his owners in the U.K.
Whippets are terrific dogs and more teams should be named after them.
Comment: I’m assuming the rivals of the Slaters are the Zachs. (rimshot)
So their helmets may not have any cool logo or design on them but c’mon, some helmets are so cool that just their stark simplicity and kickass shell color makes them iconic.
CATASAUQUA ROUGH RIDERS
Comment: You can insert your own Teddy Roosevelt Arsenic and Old Lace joke here.
For myself, I’ll just sit here and bask in the uncontested coolness of these helmets worn by the Catasauqua Rough Riders.
Comment: Blue has always been my favorite color.
I love these helmets and I can’t help but wonder if the name of the Palmerton teams used to be the Blue Blombers at some point in the past. Think about it.
GLEN MILLS BATTLING BULLS
Comment: A cool-named team like the Battling Bulls deserves incredibly cool helmets and these certainly fill the bill.
It all adds up to helmets you could figuratively roll onto the field expecting your opponents to fold right then and there … I said figuratively.
Comment: In T-Ville they really know how to rock cool football helmets, know what I mean?
Do they call Titusville T-Ville? Well … if they don’t, they really should. From now on, in fact.
PEN ARGYL GREEN KNIGHTS
Comment: Everybody loves the Arthurian tale of the Green Knight and the beheading ritual.
And, as always, any kind of “Knight” nickname cannot help but elevate a team’s helmet design – no matter if it employs artwork or just fancy lettering.
Comment: The Clippers take justified pride in their butt-kicking name and incredibly cool helmets.
Nautical themes work very effectively for mascots, logos, nicknames and helmets for oh, just about any sports team.
WEST MIDDLESEX BIG REDS
Comment: No, not the Medium Mauves, not the Petite Purples and not the Large Lavenders. It’s the Big Reds.
You have to admire teams that take a modest white shell and then splash on terrific “lettering with an attitude” to make it very memorable.
Comment: Artwork can often make or break the comparative coolness of a football helmet.
The Beaver depicted on these lids looks ready and raring to rip any opponent to shreds.
Comment: “Dragons” is another one of those nicknames that teams really cannot go wrong with.
I would happily strap on a helmet this cool and run onto the field ready to bloody noses and exchange devastating hits.
ACADEMY PARK KNIGHTS
Comment: You know what I always say about teams called Knights.
Academy Park’s helmets catch the eye, turn your head and then blow you away with their utter and complete awesomeness.
