Balladeer’s Blog’s readers wanted more cool football helmets so here we go:
Comment: There is just something majestic about Elks. There is also something majestic about these helmets.
Comment: A drake is a male duck, of course. And the one on this helmet looks infinitely cooler than the infamous Howard the Duck.
CONRAD WEISER SCOUTS
Comment: I find the shade of gray for the shell and the shade of blue for the lettering to be a perfect match on these lids for the Scouts.
AVON GROVE RED DEVILS
Comment: This is one diabolically clever design! A half-faced red devil against a field of black has GOT to up your team’s intimidation factor.
UPPER DARBY ROYALS
Comments: Now that’s a lot of color! Needless to say royal purple is part of the very memorable layout on the helmets of the Royals.
SUN VALLEY VANGUARDS
Comments: I’m always a sucker for helmets that incorporate imagery like this. And it makes sense that a team called Vanguards would have avant garde helmets.
ELK COUNTY CRUSADERS
Comment: With all the hatred and intolerance thrown at Christians these days – they have become the cultural “safe targets” for abuse – a helmet like this is courageous AND may open the minds of Christophobes everywhere.
I know, right?
Comment: Red on black almost always looks good when it comes to football helmets. The Rovers pretty much embody that concept.
READING RED KNIGHTS
Comment: That’s pronounced “redding” as in the Reading Railroad for all you Monopoly players and train buffs out there. No matter how you pronounce it these helmets are eye-catching.
Comment: I imagine Smethport’s motto is “No, that’s NOT a typo for Smithport.” Plus you know their sports teams must get sick of opponents bringing signs that say “What’s a Hubber?”
Comment: The Terrors barely snuck onto this list here at the end because though their name is pretty stylish there are so many teams that use bulldogs on their helmets that it almost made me omit them entirely.
