The Northwood University Seahawks (logo at left) remain the number 1 team in the NAIA D2 college basketball poll, but the Shorter Hawks are the new top-ranked team in D1. This comes after the defeat of the former top team the Oklahoma Baptist Bison at the hands of the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm. SOUTHERN NAZARENE TOPPLES NUMBER ONE – The SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM (love that name) took down the number 1 team in the NAIA rankings yesterday with a 69-67 overtime win. The OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON suffered their first loss as a result, despite leading 40-33 at halftime. Regulation ended with the score knotted up at 57 all, and the home- standing SNU team edged out the Bison in the extra session. The Crimson Storm is now 13-4 and the Bison fall to 15-1.

Irshad Manji
On December 26th, in Amsterdam, two Muslim speakers who favor reforming and modernizing Islam were addressing a public roundtable on the subject when the meeting was disrupted by a gang of members of the Muslim fundamentalist group called Sharia4Holland. They attempted to shout down the speakers, demanded the event be stopped, threatened and spat at the speakers and accused them of apostasy, an offense punishable by death under Islamic law. Police were needed to deal with the assault.
The intruders were so proud of all this that they even posted a video of it at their group’s Youtube site. The name Sharia4Holland may sound like satire, but there’s also a group called Sharia4Belgium, and I can’t help wondering if the pro-Sharia groups also have organizations called “Death2TheInfidels” and “WeH8Apostates”.
The two Muslim speakers were Dutch parliamentarian Tofik Dibi, 31, and NYU Professor Irshad Manji. Manji was born in Uganda in 1968 and is lesbian. She is also the best-selling author of The Trouble With Islam Today: A Muslim’s Call For Reform In Her Faith.

Welcome back to the Independent Voter site Balladeer’s Blog, the Open City in an America increasingly torn apart by Liberal zealots and Conservative zealots. This is the only place on the web that is truly non-partisan in its criticism of the political fanatics of the left and the right. No matter what your political persuasion there’s plenty here that will entertain you because I don’t show any reverence for either side of the spectrum.
America’s Liberals and Conservatives are so out of touch with reality that they actually think everybody has to be either one or the other. Because I make no secret out of the fact that I think they are both equally narrow-minded and equally intolerant of political diversity they sometimes try to call me a “fence-sitter” or a “middle of the roader”. This illustrates their lack of understanding of the terms.
A fence-sitter is someone who refrains from making their feelings on the issues clear. They avoid committing to one side of the question or the other, trying to skate by without angering anyone. Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog know that I’m not bashful about clearly expressing my views, its just that, like with many other people, I don’t force myself to mindlessly adopt a whole grocery list of opinions just to make sure I conform to either the Liberal mold or the Conservative one.
