COLLEGE BASEBALL: MORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPS

Five more tickets punched to the NAIA National Tournament.

RIVER STATES CONFERENCE

Rio Grande Red Storm Big OCHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The last 2 teams standing in this Conference Tournament were the 4 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE (OH) RED STORM – and the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY AT KOKOMO COUGARS. When the Cougars grabbed a 6-1 lead in the 1st Inning few could have guessed this game would last TWELVE INNINGS.

The Red Storm kept IU-Kokomo off the scoreboard for the entire rest of the game while adding Runs in the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th Innings for a 6-6 tie. Neither team scored in the 10th or 11th but Rio Grande emerged with a 7-6 victory in the 12th. Zach Harvey pitched for the win. * THE RED STORM ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE RSC TOURNAMENT *

THE SUN CONFERENCE

thomas-university-night-hawks-bigCHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The Cinderella 6th seeded THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHT HAWKS remained THE story of the Sun Conference tourney as they battled the 3 seeds – the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS – for the title.

A 1-0 Night Hawks edge in the 2nd Inning became a 1-1 tie in the 4th. Thomas University drove in 3 more Runs in the 5th Inning to take a 4-1 advantage and rode 3 more in the 7th to a 7-1 triumph. COLLEGE BASEBALL: CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS ROLL ON

CHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

TRINITY CHRISTIAN TROLLDAY TWO, GAME ONE: The 4 seeds – the TRINITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TROLLS – took the diamond against the 8th seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY AT SOUTH BEND TITANS. Neither team drove in a Run until the Titans grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 3rd Inning.

The Trolls pulled to within 2-1 in the 4th, then knotted things up at 2-2 in the 5th. The score remained deadlocked until the bottom of the 9th when Trinity Christian College won the game 3-2. Trolls Pitcher Bryan Vanderlee got the W. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL: MORE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

brewtonparkerDAY TWO, GAME ONE: The 8 seeds – the BREWTON-PARKER COLLEGE BARONS – played an elimination game against the 5th seeded BLUE MOUNTAIN COLLEGE TOPPERS. After 2 Scoreless Innings the teams were knotted up at 1-1 in the 3rd.

A 2-2 tie in the 6th Inning became a 3-2 Barons edge in the 7th before the Toppers wound up leading 6-4 in the 8th. In the 9th Brewton-Parker College forced extra Innings with a 6-6 deadlock. Neither team scored in the 10th Inning but the Barons won it 8-6 in the 11th for Pitcher Jacob Johnson. Continue reading

MORE COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON ACTION

AMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE

Belleville LynxDAY TWO, GAME ONE: The 6 seeds – the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX – played an elimination game against the 7th seeded HARRIS-STOWE STATE HORNETS. The Hornets grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 1st Inning, which stood until the Lynx tied the game at 1-1 in the 3rd.

From there LU-Belleville shut out Harris-Stowe State while adding 2 runs each in the 5th and 6th Innings. The Lynx won the game 5-1 for Pitcher Dylan Chisholm, who was on the Mound for 9 Iron Man Innings. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON UNDERWAY FOR 2019

GOLDEN STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Hope International University RoyalsDAY ONE, GAME ONE: The 3 seeds – the HOPE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ROYALS – started things off against the 2nd seeded ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM. The Firestorm seized a quick 4-0 lead in the 1st Inning but the Royals made it a 4-2 game in the 2nd.

Arizona Christian University extended their lead to 5-2 in the 3rd Inning following which neither team scored in the 4th. Hope International U put up 5 more runs in the 5th Inning for a 7-5 advantage. The Royals notched 1 more run in the 9th to end the scoring, winning the game 8-5. Pitcher Henry Martinez got the W. POLO: PILOT WINS U.S. OPEN, COMPLETING THE GAUNTLET OF POLO

Pilot PoloCHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: PILOT VS LAS MONJITAS. Pilot – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Troubleshooters – had already won the first two titles in the 2019 Gauntlet of Polo and were going for history against Las Monjitas – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Black Habits.

Pilot Polo foursomeIn the First Chukker the Troubleshooters put the Black Habits on notice regarding what they were up against. Pilot seized a 4 Goals to 1 lead. The teams exchanged a Goal apiece in Chukker Number Two for a new tally of 5-2.

Las Monjitas made their move in the Third Chukker, notching a desperately needed shutout of their opponents while swatting in a Goal of their own. 5-3 was the score going into Halftime. Continue reading

POLO: SEMIFINAL ACTION AT THE U.S. OPEN

Las Monjitas PoloFIRST SEMIFINAL: LAS MONJITAS VS TONKAWA FARMS. This Match pitted Las Monjitas – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Black Habits – against Tonkawa Farms – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Cavalry.

International Polo Club overheadThe two teams went blow for blow and Goal for Goal in the First Chukker, which ended in a 2-2 tie. In the Second Chukker the Black Habits outscored the Cavalry 3 Goals to 2, grabbing a 5-4 edge.

The Third Chukker was just as tight, but more defense-heavy. Tonkawa Farms knocked in a pair of Goals to the 1 mustered by their opponents. Going into Halftime the score stood at 6-6. Continue reading

POLO: U.S. OPEN QUARTERFINAL RESULTS

Pilot PoloFIRST QUARTERFINAL: PILOT VS DAILY RACING FORM – Undefeated Pilot – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Troubleshooters – rode into action against the Defending Champions of the U.S. Open, Daily Racing Form – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Stat-Hounds.

Pilot has already won the first two titles in the 2019 Gauntlet of Polo and is going for history.

International Polo ClubThe Stat-Hounds had it all over the Troubleshooters in the First Chukker, scoring 2 Goals while shutting out their opponents. In the Second Chukker neither defense could keep the ball out from between the Uprights. The teams exchanged 3 Goals apiece for a new tally of 5-3 in favor of DRF.

Chukker Three saw Pilot thwack in 3 more Goals while limiting the Stat-Hounds to just 1 Goal of their own. The result was a 6-6 Halftime deadlock. Continue reading
