As everyone knows, one of the main points of playing a sport at a 2-year college is to get prepped to sign with a 4 year college. Maybe your grades or certain mechanics of the game could use some adjusting, but after your 2 year stay it is huge to get signed by a 4-year college team.
Just this year THIRTY-THREE Hutchinson College Blue Dragons signed with 4 year schools. Here are more details and player breakdown:
Between the early signing period in December and Wednesday’s traditional National Letter of Intent Day, 33 Hutchinson Community College football players signed letters of intent to move onto four-year programs.
Blue Dragon head coach Rion Rhoades released the list of Blue Dragons moving on Wednesday.
Of the 33 players, 16 have signed on at Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs. Four more signed on with Football Championship subdivision programs, seven more with NCAA Division II programs and six more with NAIA programs.
The group of 33 is the largest groups Rhoades has had sign in any single season. Continue reading

PUNXSATAWNEY CHUCKS
Comment: With Groundhog Day just a few days back this is a very appropriate team to start out with!
The Punxsatawney Chucks (short for Woodchucks) not only have appealing helmets but they deserve the world’s thanks for not taking the easy way out and calling themselves the Punxsatawney Phils.
HOLY CROSS CRUSADERS
Comment: It’s no secret that “Crusaders” is one of the coolest names for sports teams.
And if your institution is called Holy Cross then why not go with the stark simplicity of these lids? I really like the white on green color scheme of these helmets, too. Gold on green would be the only thing better.
CONESTOGA VALLEY BUCKSKINS
Comment: Okay, so we were all hoping for a Conestoga Wagon to be on the helmets of this team, but still …
The more I looked at these helmets the more they grew on me. What finally pushed me off the fence was the infinitely cool team name Buckskins. Continue reading

Balladeer’s Blog’s readers just love these! Here are some more before pro football season is over.
DOWNINGTON WEST WHIPPETS
Comments: WHIPPET! Whippet GOOD! Long-time readers of Balladeer’s Blog will surely remember George the Whippet and his owners in the U.K.
Whippets are terrific dogs and more teams should be named after them.
BANGOR SLATERS
Comment: I’m assuming the rivals of the Slaters are the Zachs. (rimshot)
So their helmets may not have any cool logo or design on them but c’mon, some helmets are so cool that just their stark simplicity and kickass shell color makes them iconic. Continue reading

Balladeer’s Bowl always pits the NAIA football champs against the NCAA D3 football champs. The results are in, and for only THE SECOND TIME the Champions of NCAA D3 – this year the UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS – defeated the Champions of the NAIA – this year the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS.
The voting ended today and the Purple Raiders won, 228 votes to 192. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PURPLE RAIDERS, THE WINNERS OF BALLADEER’S BOWL EIGHT! That’s two years in a row that the St Francis Cougars have let down the NAIA!
Here are the results of the seven previous Balladeer’s Bowl matchups: Continue reading

Balladeer’s Blog’s readers wanted more cool football helmets so here we go:

RIDGWAY ELKERS
Comment: There is just something majestic about Elks. There is also something majestic about these helmets.
.
JENKINTOWN DRAKES
Comment: A drake is a male duck, of course. And the one on this helmet looks infinitely cooler than the infamous Howard the Duck.
.
CONRAD WEISER SCOUTS
Comment: I find the shade of gray for the shell and the shade of blue for the lettering to be a perfect match on these lids for the Scouts.

Balladeer’s Bowl always pits the National Champions of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) against the National Champions of the NCAA Division Three.
The UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS are the NCAA Division Three champs for 2017.
The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS are the champs of the NAIA.
Readers of Balladeer’s Blog get to vote on the winner over the next week, so NAIA and D3 boosters can begin their annual deluge of emails to me arguing for their choice.Email voting is the ONLY official way to let your decision be known, a procedure I implemented years ago to cut down on repeat voting by the same people. Another season of college football at Balladeer’s Blog came to an end yesterday as the final three divisions covered here played their National Championship Games.
*** NAIA ***
BACK TO BACK TITLES FOR USF – The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS – the Defending Champions of NAIA football – did battle with the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (Should be the Rottweilers) in Daytona Beach.
