FINAL COLLEGE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES: 2012

Yesterday the NAIA World Series came to a close with the Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs (logo at left) winning the championship game against the Rogers State University Hillcats. The final score was 10-6 but the Hillcats were leading 6-5 as late as the 8th inning. It’s the first national championship for TWC. Meanwhile, RSU made quite an impression on their first trip to the World Series.

The remaining 3 divisions of college sports covered here at Balladeer’s Blog play their World Series championship games today. The NCAA Division 2 game will be played at 7pm ET and pits the Delta State University Statesmen against the West Chester Golden Rams. The NJCAA1 game throws out its first pitch at 9pm ET and finds the storied Iowa Western Reivers taking on the San Jacinto College Gators. At 8pm ET the LSU- Eunice Bengals battle the defending champs, the Western Oklahoma State Pioneers in the NJCAA2 title matchup.

ONE VERSUS TWO IN D2 TONIGHT: DELTA STATE AT NORTH ALABAMA

What is it with this college football season? Tonight will be the THIRD regular season clash between the number 1 and number 2 teams in the divisions covered by Balladeer’s Blog. A few weeks ago we had two such matchups in one afternoon as the NAIA’s Top 2 teams and the NJCAA’s Top 2 teams collided. This latest gridiron Armageddon takes place in Florence, AL as the Delta State Statesmen travel to face the North Alabama Lions. The Statesmen played in last December’s D2 Title game but lost to UMD and the Lions are coached by THE Terry Bowden, the Continue reading

DELTA STATE STATESMEN AND THE UMD BULLDOGS TOP THE NCAA DIVISION 2 TOP 25

The D2 preseason Top 25 is finally out (good thing, with games starting in less than two weeks) and the two teams who played for the National Championship last December are at the top of the poll. The Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs and the Delta State Statesmen are at number one and two, respectively, with perennial (but now Tjeerdsma-less) football power the Northwest Missouri Bearcats at number three.

WHERE’D EVERYBODY GO? LIFE IN THE DEPLETED GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE

Remember all the way back to last football season, when the Gulf South Conference was still being called “The SEC of Division 2 Football”? What a difference a year makes. Last season Balladeer’s Blog covered the departure of teams from the GSC and the Lone Star Conference in order to form the Great American Conference. The Gulf South was hit the worst, losing over half their football schools, as opposed to three from the LSC. Though retaining an overall membership of nine institutions only five of those remaining GSC schools sponsor football. Wow.

The Delta State Statesmen are the preseason pick to Continue reading
