SUN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE and the SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY (FL) BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) were the last two teams standing in this conference tournament. At Halftime the Fire were clinging to a 32-30 edge. From there Southeastern U. managed more separation from the Bobcats to win the game by a final score of 70-62. Reggie Mesidor’s 24 points led the Fire while his teammate Riley Minix logged a Double Double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Continue reading
USA SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The last two teams standing in this tournament were the MARY BALDWIN UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SQUIRRELS and the GREENSBORO COLLEGE PRIDE. By Halftime the Fighting Squirrels held a slight 30-28 edge. After the break Mary Baldwin University left their opponents further and further behind on their way to a 72-62 triumph. Luke Ogle led the Squirrels with 15 points.
ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS took the court against the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS. By Halftime the Comets held a 39-32 advantage over their opponents. After the break, Mayville State got more and more separation from the Vikings for an 82-68 victory. Jamison Kramer led the Comets with 18 points while teammate Darren Jones logged a Double Double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
USCAA OVER NCAA – The number 1 team in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (shipbuilders) – traveled to take on NCAA Division Two’s CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY WOLVES. By Halftime the Builders were on top 39-28. After the break they floored it, trouncing the Wolves by a final score of 98-56. Adrion Wall’s 20 points led the Apprentice School.
CENTURY CLUB – The STANTON UNIVERSITY FIGHTING ELKS topped fellow newbies the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP UNIVERSITY RHINOS by a count of 103-60 ### Meanwhile, the (4) BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT SYRACUSE BOBCATS triumphed 102-62 over the PAUL SMITH’S COLLEGE BOBCATS ### And the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT ROCHESTER BOBCATS defeated the visiting MOHAWK VALLEY COLLEGE HAWKS 105-90.
DOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – The MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS welcomed the number 7 team in the nation – the LOURDES UNIVERSITY GRAY WOLVES. The Crusaders dominated on both sides of the ball in the opening Half and held a 40-26 lead at the midpoint of the game. After the break the Gray Wolves weren’t able to overcome that deficit as Madonna U. won out 72-65. Brendan Young led the Crusaders with his Double Double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. His teammate Isaac Anderson had his own Double Double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
ONE AND TWO ROLL – The country’s number one team – the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS – welcomed the GOSHEN COLLEGE MAPLE LEAFS and routed them 97-61. Cade Gibbs led with 16 points and fellow Lancer Ian Scott logged a Double Double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. ### And the 2nd ranked LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS (should be Hugheses) mauled the visiting MIDAMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS 91-55. Anthony Roy’s 21 points led the Lions to victory.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER TWO – The UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA AT ANCHORAGE SEAWOLVES welcomed the number 2 team in the nation – the ST. MARTIN’S UNIVERSITY SAINTS. The Seawolves put the Saints on Upset Alert by Halftime with their 33-25 lead. After the break SMU rallied, but Alaska-Anchorage held on for a 71-68 victory. Tyson Gilbert logged 28 points to lead the Seawolves.
MARATHON GAME OF THE DAY – The FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCS (Moccasins) visited the PALM BEACH ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY SAILFISH yesterday. At the Half the Mocs were up 42-34 but the Sailfish forced OT with a 74-74 tie to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime ended at 80-80, the 2nd at 89-89, the 3rd at 102-102 and the FOURTH OVERTIME saw FSC win out 117-110. Luke Anderson’s Double Double of 31 points and 12 rebounds led the Mocs.
CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER FIVE – The number 5 team in the nation – the TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS – took it on the road against the WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY CARDINALS. At Halftime the Cardinals were on top 36-29, but after the break the Bantams forced Overtime by tying things up 70-70 to end Regulation. In the extra session Trinity College prevailed 79-77. Ben Callahan-Gold notched 25 points to lead the Bantams.
CENTURY CLUB – The (25) CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS welcomed the WARREN WILSON COLLEGE OWLS and proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate them 111-48 ### Meanwhile, the THOMAS COLLEGE TERRIERS won 101-67 at the LESLEY UNIVERSITY LYNX ### And the MORRISVILLE STATE MUSTANGS routed the CANTON (NY) KANGAROOS 105-71.
DOWN GOES NUMBER TWO – The BERKELEY (NY) COLLEGE KNIGHTS played host to the number 2 team in the nation – the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT BUFFALO BOBCATS. The storied Knights held a 33-26 advantage at the Half.
ONE AND TWO ROLL – The number 1 team in the nation – the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS – downed their hosts the GOSHEN COLLEGE MAPLE LEAFS by a Century Club score of 108-78. ### While elsewhere, the 2nd ranked LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS (should be the Hugheses) obliterated the visiting SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES by another Century Club score of 100-59.
OVERTIME THRILLS – The (14) LOURDES UNIVERSITY GRAY WOLVES used OT to defeat the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS 81-68 ### Meanwhile, the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES survived a 109-108 visit to the MIDLAND U. WARRIORS ### And the (7) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS won 85-80 over the (15) ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS.
