THE TWELVE COOLEST TEAM NAMES IN WNBA HISTORY
With the WNBA season well underway what better time for a look at the coolest team names in the league’s history. This list will include franchises that folded along with teams that are still active.
12. HOUSTON COMETS
Established: 1997
Comment: The Comets were one of the Original Eight WNBA franchises and were the league’s very first dynasty. The Comets won the WNBA championship for the first four years of the league’s existence. To put that in perspective not even the NBA’s Jordan/Pippin Bulls or Kobe/Shaq Lakers were able to win four titles in a row. Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS: JUNE 22ND TO 24TH
The SAN ANTONIO SILVER STARS (logo at left) were at 4-4 headed into last night’s road game against the SEATTLE STORM. The Storm were riding a 2-game winning streak, one of which was a toppling of WNBA defending champs the MINNESOTA LYNX, ending their 10-0 run to start the season.
Seattle withstood a furious 4th quarter rally by the Silver Stars and won 82-76. Tanisha Wright led the Storm to their 3rd straight win with Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS JUNE 18TH TO 21ST *UPDATED*
The WNBA season’s only undefeated team suffered its first loss and the only winless team notched their first victory on the same day! The Seattle Storm (logo at left) ended the 10-0 run of the defending champion Minnesota Lynx in a 65-62 nailbiter.
Meanwhile the 0-9 Tulsa Shock won an 87-75 home stand against the Phoenix Mercury to at last log a win for the season. The Shock’s next game will be Wednesday night at the Los Angeles Sparks, who last night utterly demolished the visiting Washington Mystics in a 101-70 embarrassment.

WNBA RESULTS: JUNE 15TH – 17TH
A BRAND NEW RECORD – So far the MINNESOTA LYNX have owned this WNBA season. They’re the defending champions, they’re the only remaining undefeated team this year and last night they took sole possession of the longest season- opening winning streak in the Association’s history! The Lynx moved to 10-0, breaking the 9-0 tie they held with the 2001 and 2003 LOS ANGELES SPARKS. Minnesota slapped around the homestanding PHOENIX MERCURY in a 78-60 victory that will live on in the history books.
A FIZZLE FROM THE SPARKS – And speaking of the Sparks, they laid an uncharacteristic egg with a 92-59 butt kicking at the hands of the ATLANTA DREAM. Angel McCoughtry, the undisputed leader of the Dream, went Medieval on the Sparks, chalking up 31 points on her own. Atlanta improved to Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS: WEEK OF JUNE 10TH * UPDATED WITH JUNE 13TH’S SCORES
Right now in the WNBA it’s the Minnesota Lynx’s world and everyone else is just part of their win column it seems. The Lynx are the defending champions of the Association (I feel like Jim Rome when I say that), are the only undefeated team remaining this season AND they just tied the 2001 and 2003 Los Angeles Sparks for the best season-starting win streak at 9-0.
The basketball gods must love drama because we’ll have a whole week of buildup before Minnesota plays its next game this Friday night at the Phoenix Mercury. A win there will naturally give the 2012 Lynx sole possession of a new record for consecutive wins to start the season. Meanwhile this post will serve as a sort of “thread” for WNBA score updates throughout the week.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13TH SCORES – Chicago Sky (7-1, won 6 in a row) over the Continue reading
