FORTY-SIX NAIA BASEBALL PLAYERS SELECTED IN 2011 MLB DRAFT

Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions Baseball Stadium

 It’s time for a tradition I started last summer – announcing which baseball players from NAIA colleges got selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. If you have dreams of playing in the Majors, NAIA schools are just as much a stepping stone as the other divisions of college sports.

As with last year’s list, the nicknames I give to the players on this list are, to the best of my knowledge, purely my own kidding invention and any resemblance to actual nicknames applied to these players is strictly coincidental … and I’m sure they’re eternally grateful for that fact.

ONE LAST ROUND OF CONGRATULATIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS

 With the College World Series’ over now in all the divisions Balladeer’s Blog covers let’s offer a final round of congratulations to this year’s champions. In a way it was The Year of the Eagle since that nickname (one of the most monotonously overused in college sports) is sported by no less than three of the title winners. On the other end of the spectrum the Harvesters have the most unique nickname among this year’s winners so that’s why their logo is featured. CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY FOR THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES’ IN THE NAIA, NCAA DIVISION 2 AND JUCO

 NAIA – The NAIA World Series Championship game went on until about 1am here on the east coast, so technically they get to be part of Championship Saturday, too. The Concordia (CA) Eagles led the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals by a score of 4-3 going into the 9th inning. The Eagles added 5 more runs in the top of the 9th then shut out the Chaparrals in the bottom of the 9th to take the title.

JUNE 3RD’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SCORES FOR THE NAIA AND JUCO

 NAIA – The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals smoked the Lee University Flames by a score of 10-2. The Chaparrals will now play the Concordia (CA) Eagles (who I still say should change their name to the Condors) for the NAIA World Series Championship. That game is scheduled for 10:10pm ET. 7:10pm local time.

COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SCORES JUNE 2ND – NAIA, NCAA DIVISION 2 AND JUCO

 NCAA Division 2 – The University of West Florida Argonauts eliminated the Mt Olive College Trojans today by handing them their second loss of the Series by a score of 5-3. The night game in D2 will be between the Winona State Warriors and the Southern Connecticut State University Owls. ***UPDATE – The Warriors eliminated the Owls by a score of 7-5. The Argonauts and the Warriors will play for the D2 title Saturday at noon.

JUNE 1ST SCORES FOR THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES IN THE NAIA, NCAA DIVISION 2 AND JUCO

MAY 31ST COLLEGE WORLD SERIES RESULTS – MARIETTA PIONEERS TAKE D3 TITLE, THE NAIA, JUCO AND NCAA DIVISION 2 WORLD SERIES’ CONTINUE

This was the final day of the NCAA Division 3 World Series and the Chapman Panthers, with one loss already in the series, did what they had to do,defeating the unbeaten Marietta Pioneers 15-4 to force a second game. The second game was all Pioneers as Marietta eased  their way to an 18-5 win, taking the 2011 national championship for D3 baseball!
