BAD MOVIE PAGE: THE PINK ANGELS (1971)

THE PINK ANGELS (1971) – Category – The 70’s version of camp with a premise and plot elements that would have been banned in previous decades

The Pink Angels is the notoriously weird movie about a gay biker gang. Despite the many sites that claim this was a 1976 movie it was actually first released in 1971, during the biker movie craze started by Roger Corman’s Hell’s Angels flicks. This is not a gay-bashing film. Instead, it’s in the tradition of the many “anti-establishment” films from back then with the gay bikers presented in a sympathetic way and the “straights” as the heavies.

Fans of bad movies will recognize many of the faces – John Alderman, from Black Godfather, Trader Hornee and countless other bizarre films, is the leader of the Pink Angels. Tom Basham, who played the mass-murdering kiddie show host Mr Rabbey in Psychopath (reviewed previously on my Bad Movie Page) portrays one of the Angels, as does Continue reading

COOL-NAMED (BUT NON-EXISTENT) SPORTS TEAM – THE ROBOT MONSTERS

With the colleges and universities I cover all pretty much on summer break right now I figured I’d temporarily replace my Cool-Named Team feature with Cool-Named (but non-existent) Sports Teams based on bad movies. These could become the new mascots for teams that currently have one of the four most overused nicknames in college sports – namely Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs and Wildcats. At least it would give us a laugh.

Division: Black and White

Conference Affiliation: 1950’s Monster Movies

Comment: The 1953 flick Robot Monster is a Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE: CURSE OF THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN (1974)

Let’s take a look at another Bad Movie Gem that I feel doesn’t get the kind of attention it deserves.

CURSE OF THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN – CategoryLaughably bad with an enjoyably weird premise but not fun-bad enough for my highest rating     This film could easily be reviewed as part of my segment called The Bad, The Weird And The Freaky, which examines weird westerns, especially with the Frontierado Holiday coming up the first Friday in August.

However, this film is set in the 1970’s, so to me that outweighs its western features and makes it deserving of my Bad Movie Page instead. Curse of the Headless Horseman twists a classic horror story in a way that even Paul Naschy himself must have stood in awe of.

The Washington Irving tale set in Sleepy Hollow gets transplanted to the American West, and instead of a Hessian soldier beheaded by a cannonball this Headless Horseman is  Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE – IF FOOTMEN TIRE YOU WHAT WILL HORSES DO?

I’ve gotten e-mails requesting that I review this movie but I already did, last year. It’s been on my Bad Movie page but to make it easier to find (and to remind people that I have a Bad Movie page since I’ve been so busy on other subjects lately) here it is: For more Bad Movie reviews click here:  https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

if footmen posterIF FOOTMEN TIRE YOU, WHAT WILL HORSES DO? (1971) – Category: A neglected bad movie classic that deserves a Plan 9-sized cult following    No, it’s not about Quentin Tarantino and pre-Castro Havana nightclubs (Thank you, I’m here all week!) it’s really a Cold War-era warning about what would happen if Communists took over the United States. It’s from Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE UPDATED: A METRIC AMERICA (1978)

Here we go, and for more bad movie reviews click here: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

A METRIC AMERICA – (1978) – Category: A classically campy educational and/or safety short     In the late 1970’s the notion that the United States was going to convert to the metric system by 1980 was being pushed. This thought was causing a panic of almost Y2K proportions as government bodies and the Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE: ROBO-ZOMBIES (1986)

Well, the latest bad movie I’m reviewing comes to us from Hong Kong, which has provided the world with the notorious Lewd Lizard movies as well as the bizarre killer fetus sub-genre. For more bad movie reviews click here: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

ROBO-ZOMBIES (1986) – Category: Enjoyably bad but not fun-bad enough for my highest rating      This film comes to us from Hong Kong, the home of some of the wildest and most outrageously violent films ever made. Many people in the U.S. are unaware that there are actually movies in the world that are so envelope- pushing with their violence and other adult themes that they can’t even be shown on pay-cable channels here.

That list of films would include many of Hong Kong’s “Category 3” movies as well as the infamous Italian cannibal films from the 70’s and 80’s and the occassional wild gem from other parts of the world, with Indonesia’s Mystics In Bali leading the way. All of that being said, Robo-Zombies is nowhere near to being Category 3, but is mild enough for most bad movie fans, who will love it for all the right reasons. Let’s start with  Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE: THE WEREWOLF OF WOODSTOCK (1972)

No, not The Werewolf Of Washington, which is a whole other movie, but The Werewolf of Woodstock, site of the famous multi-day music festival in 1969 New York. Enjoy this atrocious attempt at a rock’n’roll horror film.      And for more bad movie reviews click here: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

THE WEREWOLF OF WOODSTOCK (1972) – Category: Bad enough and with a classically weird premise but not fun-bad enough for my highest rating

This made for tv movie presents the weirdest variation on the werewolf legend this side of Curse of the Queerwolf. The story begins the night after the conclusion of 1969′s Woodstock music festival when a grumpy old man who hates rock music and young people goes to the litter-strewn remnants of the outdoor concert looking for “hippies” to harass.

This act is even dumber than it first sounds when you consider that just a bit earlier he and another resident of Woodstock were discussing how all the concertgoers are “long gone”. While trashing some of the metal stage equipment Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE UPDATED: HUMPHREY BOGART AS AN UNDEAD MAD SCIENTIST? IT’S “THE RETURN OF DR X” (1939)

For some variety I’ll do my usual Monday feature, the Cool-Named Team Of The Day, tomorrow instead and go with my fresh new addition to my bad movie page. It’s the role Humphrey Bogart wanted everyone to forget, as he invades Bela Lugosi/George Zucco territory to portray an undead mad scientist in the enjoyably campy film The Return Of Dr X.  And for more Bad Movie entries click here: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

THE RETURN OF DR X (1939) – Category: Enjoyably campy bad movie elevated by kitsch-value in the casting.     Yes, it’s the famous “Humphrey Bogart as a zombie mad scientist” movie. The tale goes that Jack Warner inflicted this role on gangster-flick star Bogart as punishment for Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE: CURSE OF A TEENAGE NAZI (1948)

Well, folks, I updated my Bad Movie page with yet another review of an under-the-radar cinematic turkey. This one is a sci-fi/ exploitation hybrid that features plotting and counter-plotting by German and Japanese officers and scientists as World War Two draws to a close. Don’t miss any of the campy fun. For more bad movie reviews click here: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

BAD MOVIE PAGE- THE “KILLER ELEVATOR” MOVIE – THE LIFT (1983)

From 1983 comes this overlooked gem of a bad movie. There’s no real way to adequately describe this flick briefly so let’s dive on in to the review. For more Bad Movie reviews click here: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

The Lift

THE LIFT (1983) – Category: A neglected bad movie classic that deserves a Plan 9-sized cult following       Don’t believe the IMDB entry for this movie that lists “comedy” as well as “horror” as one of this film’s genres. Oh, it will make you laugh uproariously but if you actually watch the movie (which I swear half the IMDB people never do with the movies they provide info on) you can tell none of the humor is intentional.

This absurd horror film from the Netherlands is about a killer elevator … yes, a killer elevator. There is so much to love about this forgotten Continue reading
