NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – In NCAA Division Two the 15th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES visited the number 1 team in the nation – the defending champion UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS. The Wolves led 17-9 at Halftime but the Argonauts pulled to within 24-23 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, West Georgia won out 30-26.
SPIRIT OF EIGHTY-FOUR – Over in the NAIA the number 3 MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS traveled to take on the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. The Mustangs seized a 28-0 lead in the opening Quarter and never looked back from there. When all the dust settled they had folded, spindled and mutilated the Chargers to the tune of EIGHTY-FOUR to SEVEN.
TAKING DOWN NUMBER FOUR – Back to NCAA Division Two for this clash between the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS and the visiting 4th ranked NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. The 1st Half was a defensive struggle, with the Ichabods on top by just 3-0 at the Half. That became a 10-7 edge in the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 17-16 Upset triumph in the 4th.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER SIX – Back to the NAIA as the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE took it on the road against the nation’s number 6 team – the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS. The Seahawks were on top 14-10 at the break and 17-10 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th the Fire came roaring from behind for a 20-17 victory.
UPSET SATURDAY ROLLED ON – NCAA Division Two’s Upset Saturday rolled on as no fewer than FOUR Top Ten teams took a fall. The traveling INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS toppled the number 7 SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY “ROCK” in a 48-21 smackdown ### And the BARTON COLLEGE BULLDOGS downed their guests the 8th ranked WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS 26-20 in Overtime.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association the WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS hosted the NEW JERSEY WARRIORS. The Warriors grabbed a quick 12-0 advantage in the 1st Quarter but the defenses took over from there. No more points were scored until the explosive 4th Quarter, when the Mechanics triumphed 20-18.
NJCAA NUMBER FOUR TOPPLED – Down in the NJCAA the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS welcomed the visiting 4th ranked TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS. These familiar foes fought tooth and nail during the entire game but in the end only one could win and that one was the Buccaneers in a 21-14 thriller.
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES were on the road against the 12th ranked OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Purple Tigers) and upset them 17-10 ### And the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS took down the visiting number 15 VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS by a score of 24-10.
OFF THE SCHNEID – The LYON COLLEGE SCOTS at last got off the schneid for 2021 against the home standing TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS. The Steers held a slight 18-16 edge come Halftime but the Scots went up 33-26 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th a Texas College rally fell just short as Lyon College notched a 33-32 victory.
HAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The (8) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES celebrated Homecoming with a 45-17 beatdown of the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS (should be the Mastiffs) ### Meanwhile the THOMAS MORE UNIVERSITY SAINTS triumphed over the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS 26-9 ### And the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS mauled the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS 42-31.
UNHAPPY HOMECOMING – The (20) SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS ruined Homecoming for their hosts the TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS. A 7-0 opening Quarter lead for the Moundbuilders was extended to 28-7 at Halftime. After the break Southwestern College coasted to a 42-21 victory.
SHUTOUTS – Teams achieving defensive perfection: The PERU STATE BOBCATS blanked the CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE 20-0 ### The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS crushed the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES 34-0 ### And the DOANE UNIVERSITY TIGERS wiped out the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS 44-0.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR traveled to face the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS and won 30-23 ### Meanwhile the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES downed the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS 30-24 ### And the LOUISIANA COLLEGE WILDCATS won 27-24 at the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be Flying Ws).
ROAD RAGE – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX paid a visit to the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Burgundy Tigers). A 20-6 1st Quarter lead for the Phoenix became 47-6 by the Half. From there Cumberland University coasted to a 54-32 road win.
CARDINALS IN FLIGHT – This game pitted the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS against their guests, the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS. The opening Quarter ended in a 7-7 tie but the Cardinals went on top 14-7 come Halftime. Concordia U extended their lead to 28-14 in the 3rd Quarter before winning out 28-21 in the 4th.
KNIGHT GAMES – The SAINT ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS welcomed the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. Kentucky Christian University led 17-15 at the break and 24-22 in the 3rd Quarter but in the 4th the Knights from Saint Andrews University came from behind for a 35-24 victory.
ERSTWHILE ERSKINE – The ERSKINE COLLEGE FLYING FLEET played host to the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUE. The Flying Fleet led 10-6 at the Half but the Big Blue went up 13-10 in the 3rd Quarter. Erskine College came back to win the game in the 4th by a score of 24-19.
BLOWOUTS – The MCMURRY UNIVERSITY WARHAWKS eviscerated the AUSTIN COLLEGE KANGAROOS 48-13 ### Meanwhile the ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS won 49-14 at the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS ### And the SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) pounded their hosts the UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be the Flamingos) 58-0.

WORKIN’ OVERTIME – The PACE UNIVERSITY SETTERS (Irish Setters) took the field against the visiting FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY RAVENS and defeated them 39-31 in Overtime ### And the MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY LAKERS won 27-20 in an extra session over their hosts the EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS.
BATTLE OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – In this game the TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS played host to the LINCOLN (CA) UNIVERSITY OAKLANDERS. The Javelinas went on top 19-0 in the opening Quarter and remained in control of the game from there, ultimately routing the Oaklanders by a final tally of 51-21.
GETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – On Thursday night the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM welcomed the SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE BULLDOGS. The Crimson Storm led 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 21-19 at Halftime. The Bulldogs went up 22-21 in the 3rd Quarter but the 4th saw SNU come back to win it 30-22.
DOUBLE OVERTIME – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS took it on the road against the DELTA STATE STATESMEN. The Statesmen held a slim 14-13 midpoint lead but the Crusaders forced OT with a 27-27 tie to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st extra session ended in a 34-34 deadlock before North Greenville U emerged with a 42-34 victory in Double Overtime.
WINNING BIG AT HOME – The PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS manhandled the LINCOLN (MO) BLUE TIGERS in a 59-7 laugher ### Meanwhile the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS won 31-17 over the ARKANSAS TECH WONDER BOYS ### And the MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS routed the NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS 57-24.

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – Year in and year out, Division Three has the most accurate rankings with the fewest Upsets in all the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog. This week the only Upset came in the game between the 21st ranked MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES and the visiting number 9 JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS. A 7-0 Mules edge at Halftime ultimately became a 21-6 triumph.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The defenses dominated in this very odd game between the RHODES COLLEGE LYNX and their guests the HENDRIX COLLEGE WARRIORS. A 7-7 tie at the midpoint became a 10-10 deadlock to end the 4th Quarter. Neither team scored in the 1st Overtime, but in the 2nd OT the Lynx snuck past the Warriors 16-13.
ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS hammered their hosts the WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS 50-13 ### The HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRINCES embarrassed the OTTERBEIN CARDINALS 52-19 ### And the LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES won 63-17 at the CONCORDIA-CHICAGO COUGARS.
SERVICE ACADEMY ACTION – The UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS welcomed the MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERS. A 27-14 Mariners advantage at Halftime ended up as a comfortable 56-34 win over the Engineers.
ALL NAME GAMES – The COLLEGE OF WOOSTER SCOTS visited the WABASH COLLEGE LITTLE GIANTS and eked out a 44-41 victory ### Meanwhile the BOWDOIN COLLEGE POLAR BEARS defeated their guests the AMHERST COLLEGE MAMMOTHS 21-14 ### And the COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS won 27-20 at the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS.
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the NJCAA rankings came in the game pitting the 12th ranked NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS against the home standing number 9 MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Rangers held a 17-14 edge at Halftime then proceeded to mop the floor with the Bulldogs for a 38-14 victory.
BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK – The storied HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS, the defending National Champions of NJCAA football, bounced back yesterday from some early season stumbles. The Blue Dragons visited the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES and parlayed a 13-0 midpoint lead into a 20-7 triumph.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The top ranked JONES COLLEGE BOBCATS got a fight from their hosts the PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS as JC won the game 28-22 ### And the NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS won a 17-15 thriller at the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS.
WORKIN’ SOME OVERTIME – The COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLVES were at the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS. A 7-0 Halftime lead for the Warriors became a 14-14 tie to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session East Central College notched a Field Goal before Copiah-Lincoln scored a TD to win it 20-17.
BLOWOUTS – The (7) COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS crushed the home standing FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS by a count of 31-3 ### Meanwhile the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) mangled the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES 49-13 ### And the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS routed the SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY AT SHREVEPORT JAGS 37-2.
