FIRST SEMIFINAL: This game pitted the 3 seeds – the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS – against the top seeded SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES. A 1-1 tie in the 1st Inning became a 3-2 Royals lead in the 3rd.
A huge 4th Inning for Warner University expanded their advantage to 7-2. From there the Eagles mustered just 1 more Run each in the 6th and 9th Innings while the Royals added 2 of their own in the 8th. Warner U won the game 9-4 behind Pitcher Joey Theune.
SECOND SEMIFINAL: Up next the 5th seeded CONCORDIA (MI) UNIVERSITY CARDINALS faced the 7 seeds – the COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS. The Bobcats went up 3-2 in the opening Inning, following which the Cardinals knotted things up at 3-3 in the 2nd.
The College of the Ozarks would score just 1 more Run and that one came in the 6th Inning. Meanwhile Concordia University smacked in Runs in all but the 4th and 8th Innings for a resounding SEVENTEEN to FOUR evisceration of the Bobcats. Grant Steinborn threw for the win.
CONSOLATION BRACKET: The 6 seeds – the TRINITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TROLLS – took the diamond against the 10th seeded RANDALL UNIVERSITY SAINTS. A 1-0 Trolls lead in the 1st Inning became a 1-1 tie in the 3rd.
Trinity Christian College shut out the Saints the rest of the way while driving in Runs for themselves in the 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th Innings. The Trolls won the game by a final tally of 6-1 for Pitcher Bryan Vanderlee.
DAY ONE, GAME ONE: The 8th seeded INDIANA TECH WARRIORS battled the 9 seeds – the BELLEVUE (NE) UNIVERSITY BRUINS. Neither team scored until the Warriors (should be the Hoplites) grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 4th Inning.
Indiana Tech made that a 2-0 lead in the 5th followed by the Bruins cutting it to a 2-1 game in the 6th. In the top of the 9th Inning Bellevue University tied the game at 2-2, forcing extra Innings. The bottom of the 10th saw the Warriors win it 3-2 behind the pitching of Landon Bloir.
DAY ONE, GAME TWO: Next the Upset-minded 5 seeds – the GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES – played the 4th seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Furies). After 3 scoreless Innings the Eagles went up 1-0 in the 4th.
The Grizzlies responded by taking a 4-1 lead in the 5th Inning before Faulkner University made it a 4-2 tally in the 6th. From there Georgia Gwinnett College outscored the Eagles 2-1 for a 6-3 triumph. Pedro Garcia was the winning Pitcher.
DAY ONE, GAME THREE: Another upset followed as the 6th seeded SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS took on the 3 seeds – the defending National Champion SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE. The Fire led 1-0 in the 1st Inning with neither team scoring for the next 4 Innings.
The 6th Inning saw Southeastern University expand their edge to 2-0, but in the 8th the Bobcats (should be the Tomcats) knotted things up at 2-2. Another Run for Saint Thomas University in the top of the 9th wound up giving them a 3-2 win. Orlando Rodriguez threw for 9 Iron Man Innings for the Bobcats.
