Mississippi University for Women OwlsDAY ONE: GAME ONE – The 10th seeded MISSISSIPPI UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN OWLS (co-ed despite the name) faced off with the 9 seeds – the FLORIDA NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CONQUISTADORS, with both teams making their first appearance in the USCAA World Series.

By the 2nd Inning the Owls held a 3-0 lead but the Conquistadors cut that to 3-1 in the 3rd. The 4th Inning saw Florida National University explode for SIX runs, taking a 7-4 lead after MUW’s at-bats. The Owls made it a 7-6 game in the 5th before the Conquistadors extended their lead to 9-6 in the 6th Inning. Four runs for MUW in the 7th gave them a 10-9 victory for Pitcher Eiland Cleckler, nickname: “That’s Not A Typo!” 

Selma University BulldogsDAY ONE: GAME TWO – This game pitted the 10 seeds – the SELMA UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS – against the 7th seeded Defending National Champions, the COLLEGE OF SAINT JOSEPH’S (sic) FIGHTING SAINTS.

The Bulldogs were more like Greyhounds at first, bolting out to a 2-0 edge in the 1st Inning and 5-0 in the 2nd, but little did anyone know that was the end of the scoring for them. The Fighting Saints were only able to muster 2 runs for themselves in the 5th Inning as Selma University took the game 5-2. Derrick Sylve pitched for the Win.

Cleary University CougarsDAY ONE: GAME THREE – Up next the 5 seeds – the CLEARY UNIVERSITY PROWLING COUGARS – took on the 4th seeded BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES.

After a scoreless 1st Inning the Prowling Cougars seized a 4-0 advantage. That became 5-0 in the 3rd and 5-1 in the 4th as the Big Blues at last got on the scoreboard. Cleary University added 3 more runs in the 5th Inning with Bluefield State managing just 2 more the rest of the way. The Prowling Cougars won by a final score of 8-3. Rhett Holwerda was on the Mound for the victors.

Cincinatti Clermont Cougars logo biggerDAY ONE: GAME FOUR – The top seeded UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI AT CLERMONT COUGARS did battle with the (10) MISSOURI UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN OWLS after their earlier triumph over FNU.

The first 2 Innings were a Pitcher’s Duel but by the 4th the Cougars were on top 3-1. From there UC-Clermont piled on 4 more runs in the 5th Inning and 3 more in the 6th while shutting out the Owls for a 10-1 blowout win. Pitcher A.J. Sweatland notched the W.

Penn State Dubois logoDAY ONE: GAME FIVE – Closing out Day One action was this clash between the 6th seeded PENN STATE AT DUBOIS NITTANY LIONS and the 3 seeds – the WRIGHT STATE AT THE LAKE CAMPUS LAKERS.

After 2 scoreless Innings the two teams were knotted up at 1-1 in the 3rd. PSU-Dubois smacked down the Lakers in the 4th Inning by putting up SEVEN runs, followed up by 1 more in the 7th for a 9-1 victory. Caleb Bennett threw for the entire game in this 6 seed over 3 seed Upset.
