COLLEGE WORLD SERIES CONTINUE IN THE NAIA, NJCAA AND NCAA

*** NAIA ***

William Carey CrusadersDAY THREE, GAME ONE: This elimination game pitted the 9th seeded WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS against the 7 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS. After the Crusaders notched a quick 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning the Drovers took a 5-1 lead in the 2nd. As it turned out, they would not score again. William Carey University cut the USAO lead to 5-2 in the 3rd Inning and then a lengthy Pitcher’s Duel ensued. Finally, in the 9th Inning the Crusaders drove in 4 more runs for a 6-5 victory. Pitcher Braden Smith got the win.

Master's College Mustangs logoDAY THREE, GAME TWO: Another elimination game and another upset followed. The 10 seeds – THE MASTER’S UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS – did battle with the 4th seeded KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS. Neither team scored until the 4th Inning, when the Seahawks eked out a 2-1 edge. The Mustangs added 4 more runs in the 5th and 6th Innings before their bats went as cold as Keiser’s. The Master’s University smacked down the Seahawks by a score of 9-2 behind the pitching of Robert Winslow.

Faulkner U Eagles logoDAY THREE, GAME THREE: The 2nd seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES were the only favored team to win in the NAIA on the 3rd Day. They took on the 6 seeds – the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. A 5-0 1st Inning lead by the Eagles turned into a 13-1 lead by the 5th and it was as good as over. Faulkner University coasted to a SIXTEEN to TWO evisceration of the Spartans. Pitcher Israel Fuentes of the Eagles made his record TWELVE AND O for the season with this win.  

LCSC Logo - Primary FullDAY THREE: GAME FOUR: Back to upsets to close out the day. The 5 seeds – the Defending National Champion LEWIS-CLARK STATE WARRIORS – faced the top seeded OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS. The Stars watched their 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning turn into a 6-2 deficit in the 2nd. The Warriors’ lead had been cut to 8-5 in the 4th Inning and though Oklahoma City University drove in 2 more runs in the 5th, they could get no closer. Lewis-Clark State held on for an 8-7 triumph for Pitcher Henry McAree.

*** NCAA DIVISION TWO ***

delta stateDAY THREE, GAME ONE: The DELTA STATE STATESMEN and the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA NIGHTHAWKS started off the day. Runs were scored in just 1 Inning during what was otherwise a Pitcher’s Duel. The Statesmen had a big 4th Inning, driving in 4 runs to constitute the game’s only offense. Delta State shut out the Nighthawks as Pitcher Tre Hobbs threw for 9 Iron Man Innings in a 4-0 win.

West Chester University Golden Rams LogoDAY THREE, GAME TWO: Finishing off Day Three in D2 was this clash between the WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY GOLDEN RAMS and the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS. The 1st Inning ended in a 1-1 tie and no more runs were scored until the Golden Rams drove in 4 more in the 8th. The Lions mustered 1 run in the 9th as West Chester University notched a 5-2 victory. Pitcher Josh McClain picked up the W.

*** NCAA DIVISION THREE ***

Washington and Jefferson Presidents logoDAY FOUR, GAME ONE IN BEST-OF-THREE: The two teams who made it to the Championship Series are the 5th seeded WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS and the 3 seeds – the CALIFORNIA LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN. It was a victory for Democracy over Royalty as the Presidents led the Kingsmen 1-0 in the 1st Inning, 2-0 in the 2nd and 4-0 in the 4th. Washington & Jefferson College added 3 more runs in the 5th Inning on their way to a TWELVE to TWO massacre. Matt Heslin was on the mound all 9 Iron Man Innings for the triumphant Presidents.  

*** NJCAA DIVISION ONE ***

Crowder College RoughridersDAY THREE, GAME ONE: This opening game of the day pitted the CROWDER COLLEGE ROUGHRIDERS against the WALLACE COLLEGE AT DOTHAN GOVERNORS. The Roughriders had compiled a 3-0 lead by the 2nd Inning but the Governors went on top 4-3 in the 3rd. The 5th Inning ended with Crowder College still chasing Wallace College at Dothan 6-5 and the 6th ended with them chasing the leaders 7-6. A 4-run 8th Inning for the Roughriders earned them a 10-7 victory with Pitcher Aaron Ashby getting the Save.

San Jacinto College North GatorsDAY THREE, GAME TWO: Up next the SAN JACINTO COLLEGE-NORTH GATORS battled the CHIPOLA COLLEGE INDIANS. The Gators dominated early and led the Indians 6-1 by the 3rd Inning. Chipola College cut it to a 7-3 game in the 4th Inning only to see San Jacinto College-North ram in FIVE runs in the 5th. The Gators coasted from there for a 13-5 win. Kaleb Roper was the victorious Pitcher.

Wabash Valley College Warriors logoDAY THREE, GAME THREE: The WABASH VALLEY COLLEGE WARRIORS and the COWLEY COLLEGE TIGERS brought an end to Day Three. After 2 Innings of play the Tigers were on top 5-0 but by the 5th the Warriors got on the board to make it a 7-2 affair. The 6th Inning ended with Cowley College up 8-4 and that was cut to an 8-5 advantage in the 7th. A 7-run 8th Inning let Wabash Valley College go on to win it by a Polo Match score of 12-11. Logan Parrett notched the Save for the Warriors.

*** NJCAA DIVISION TWO ***

Phoenix Bears logoDAY THREE, GAME ONE: The PHOENIX COLLEGE BEARS took the diamond against the MURRAY STATE (OK) AGGIES (should be the Okies). In an action-packed 1st Inning the Aggies seized a 4-2 lead but the Bears turned the tables, going on top 7-4 in the 2nd and 12-6 in the 3rd. The only offense the rest of the way was a run by Murray State in the 5th Inning. Phoenix College won by a score of 12-7 behind the pitching of Livan Cordova.

DAY THREE, GAME TWO: Up next the KANKAKEE COLLEGE CAVALIERS went up against the UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT AT AVERY POINT POINTERS. A 1-1 1st Inning tie quickly became a 5-1 lead for the Cavaliers in the 2nd. The rout was on from there and by the time the dust settled Kankakee College had decimated the Pointers to the tune of TWELVE to TWO. Colton Carr was on the mound for the Cavaliers. 

Parkland CollegeDAY THREE, GAME THREE: The PARKLAND COLLEGE COBRAS found themselves facing the PITT (NC) COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Cobras kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard until the 6th Inning, by which point they led Pitt College 6-2. The 7th, 8th and 9th Innings were a veritable orgy of hot bats and runs driven in. Parkland College emerged with a win by the Polo Match score of 16-12. Pitcher Daniel Lloyd registered the W.  

Mercer County College VikingsDAY THREE, GAME FOUR: A battle between the MERCER COUNTY COLLEGE VIKINGS and the LANSING COLLEGE STARS drew the curtain on Day Three in this division. The Vikings led the game 2-1 by the 3rd Inning but an explosive 4th ended in a bigger 5-3 advantage for Mercer County College. The Stars went on top 7-5 in the 5th Inning but would not score again the rest of the way. The Vikings came from behind for a 9-7 triumph with Matt Chitwood pitching for the Save.  

*** NJCAA DIVISION THREE ***

Century College Wood DucksDAY THREE, GAME ONE: The CENTURY COLLEGE WOOD DUCKS squared off against the DELTA COLLEGE PIONEERS to start the day in NJCAA D3. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Wood Ducks seized a 4-0 lead in the 2nd. By the 4th Inning the Pioneers had knotted things up at 5-5 and that became 7-7 in the 6th. In the 7th Inning Century College drove in SIX runs and rode those to a 13-8 victory. Jack Voigt threw for the Wood Ducks’ win.

Niagara College ThunderwolvesDAY THREE, GAME TWO: This game pitted the NIAGARA COUNTY COLLEGE THUNDER WOLVES against the NORTHAMPTON COLLEGE SPARTANS. The Thunder Wolves led 2-0 in the 2nd Inning and that was about as close as the Spartans got all game. Niagara County College folded, spindled and mutilated hapless Northampton College the rest of the way, ultimately annihilating them by a final score of FOURTEEN to ONE. On the mound for the Thunder Wolves was Ryan Green.  

Tyler College Apaches BIGGERDAY THREE, GAME THREE: The final game of the day saw the Defending National Champions – the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES – take on the CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES. The Apaches immediately seized a 4-0 1st Inning advantage over the Dukes who made it a 4-1 game in the 4th. Tyler College added 2 more runs in the 5th Inning but then had to dig in by their cleats to survive with a 6-5 win. Pitcher Austin Cernosek picked up the W.
