With superhero Cosplay rivalling monster themes for Halloween these days I figured it was a good time to showcase the various superhero pantheons that Balladeer’s Blog has examined in a style similar to my mythology posts.
***
AUSTRALIAN SUPERHEROES
Sampling: Vixen – She’s part human and part fox … The Jackaroo – Picture a costumed Crocodile Dundee … The Technocrat – She’s a mutant technopath with a flying rocket-skateboard … The Southern Squadron – Australia’s home-made team of superheroes.
Top Hero On List: Dark Nebula – A cosmic and mystical hero whose adventures combine science fiction and the supernatural, like Doctor Strange meets Green Lantern.
Comment: For this list I went ONLY with superheroes created by Australian writers and artists and published in Australia.

MLJ SUPERHEROES
Sampling: Mister Justice – Undead battler of the forces of evil AND their ultimate master: Satan himself … The Shield – Super-powered and star-spangled hero who PRE-DATED Captain America … The Wizard – Tycoon whose inventions gave him an array of super-powers … Comet – High-flying hero who shot disintegrator rays from his eyes.
Top Hero On List: The Black Hood – This two-fisted crime-fighter not only starred in comic books but got his own radio show AND a companion Pulp Magazine.
Comment: I find the MLJ superheroes so tantalizing because of how limited their initial run was in the Golden Age.

ISRAELI SUPERHEROES
Sampling: Splendor – She can adjust her bodily density like the Vision and Shadowcat … Titan – Immeasurably strong and able to grow to giant size at will … Professor Fever – Master of thermodynamics, able to fly, generate heat rays and storms … Gazelle – The super-speedster of the bunch, a la Flash or Quicksilver.
Top Hero On List: Doctor Z’Roa – His super-powers are intriguingly linked to ancient Jewish religious rituals.
Comment: As I did with Australian superheroes I selected Israeli superheroes created and published in Israel itself.

NEDOR SUPERHEROES
Sampling: The Woman in Red – Costumed crime-fighter who PRE-DATED Wonder Woman … The Fighting Yank – A mystic garb from the Revolutionary War granted this hero super-strength, invulnerability and flight … Miss Masque – A female tycoon who donned a costume and fought crime for thrills … Captain Future – Endowed with incredible super-strength, invulnerability, flight and energy blasts which he shot from his hands.
Top Hero On List: The Black Terror – Super-powered scourge of organized crime plus the Axis Powers. He often fought alongside his youthful sidekick Kid Terror.
Comment: Nedor’s superheroes were more successful than MLJ’s but despite their colorful names were often just regular humans with some gimmicks or when they did have super-powers they were the same combination of strength, flight and invulnerability.
