As always Memorial Day Weekend is to College Baseball what March is to College Basketball. Here are the latest scores.
* NCAA DIVISION TWO *
DAY TWO – GAME ONE – Starting off the day in D2 World Series play was this battle between the MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY LAKERS and the TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Lakers grabbed a 1-0 edge over the Bulldogs in the 2nd. In the 5th Inning Truman State tied the game at 1-1 and that is where things remained deadlocked until the ELEVENTH Inning when Mercyhurst University knocked in 2 runs, then shut out the Bulldogs for a 3-1 victory. Jake Hall was the winning Pitcher.
DAY TWO – GAME TWO – This was the only other game in the D2 World Series yesterday. The UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA SPARTANS took on the CAL POLY- POMONA BRONCOS. The Spartans seized a 3-0 advantage in the 1st Inning but the Broncos made it a 3-1 game in the 2nd and 3-2 in the 5th. That became a 4-3 edge for the University of Tampa when the 6th Inning was over. Cal Poly- Pomona tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th Inning followed by the Spartans taking a 7-4 lead in the top of the TENTH. That wound up being the final score in a win for Pitcher Dylan Barrow.
* NJCAA DIVISION ONE *
DAY TWO – GAME ONE – Starting off Day Two was an elimination game between the SAN JACINTO COLLEGE- NORTH GATORS and the DELGADO COLLEGE DOLPHINS. By the 3rd Inning the Gators had cobbled together a 5-0 advantage enroute to a 12-3 beatdown that sent the Dolphins home. Aaron Ford threw for the win.
DAY – TWO – GAME TWO – Next came an orgy of offense put up by the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS and the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT SUMTER FIRE ANTS. Runs were scored in every Inning but the 6th in this action-packed game. The Conquistadors trailed the Fire Ants 3-1 in the 1st Inning but in the 2nd seized a 7-3 lead and never looked back. Dodge City College bounced USC-Sumter TWENTY-THREE to ELEVEN. Pitcher Andrew Riddell picked up the win.
DAY TWO – GAME THREE – Finishing up the second day of the NJCAA1 World Series was this Instant Classic between the CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COLLEGE PIRATES and the YAVAPAI COLLEGE ROUGHRIDERS. The Roughriders got off to a quick 5-0 lead in the 1st Inning only to see the Pirates cut it to a 5-3 game in the 2nd and 5-4 in the 3rd. From there the teams exchanged runs until Chattahoochee Valley College went up 9-8 in the 7th Inning. That also wound up being the final score as the save went to Christian Vann.
* NJCAA DIVISION TWO *
DAY TWO – GAME ONE – The FREDERICK COLLEGE COUGARS took the diamond against the LINCOLN LAND COLLEGE LOGGERS in what turned out to be the only game that the weather allowed yesterday in the NJCAA2 World Series. A 4-0 1st Inning lead for the Cougars turned into 7-0 in the 2nd and 8-0 in the 3rd. When all was said and done Frederick College handily defeated the Loggers by a final score of FOURTEEN to SIX. Nick Hammond pitched the whole game for the victorious Cougars.
* NJCAA DIVISION THREE *
DAY TWO – GAME ONE – Starting the day was this clash between the MONTGOMERY COLLEGE RAPTORS and the NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Raptors began to take full control of the game, leading the Lions 3-0 in the 2nd and 6-0 in the 3rd. Ultimately Montgomery College annihilated Nassau College to the tune of FIFTEEN to ONE! Brandon Humbertson got the win.
DAY TWO – GAME TWO -Up next the CENTURY COLLEGE WOOD DUCKS played the NORTHERN ESSEX COLLEGE KNIGHTS in an elimination game. The Wood Ducks led the Knights 6-1 by the end of the 3rd Inning and 10-1 by the end of the 6th. From there Northern Essex College shut out Century College while adding 2 runs of their own in the 7th Inning and 4 in the 9th. The Wood Ducks bounced the Knights 10-7 with Mitch Degrasse on the mound.
DAY TWO – GAME THREE – The JOLIET COLLEGE WOLVES squared off against the ROWAN COLLEGE AT GLOUCESTER ROADRUNNERS. The Wolves scored 2 runs each in the first 3 Innings for a 6-1 lead and never trailed the Roadrunners. Joliet College won by a final tally of 11-4. Thomas Goodyear threw for the win.
DAY TWO – GAME FOUR – The TYLER COLLEGE APACHES and the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS brought an end to Day Two. Neither team scored until the 4th Inning, when the Generals went up by a count of 2-0. The Apaches tied the game at 2-2 in the 7th Inning and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th for a 3-2 triumph. Jace Vines pitched all 9 Iron Man Innings for the Apaches.
