ANOTHER COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPION CROWNED; GAMES CONTINUE IN THE NAIA, D2 AND NJCAA

* NJCAA DIVISION THREE *

Tyler ApachesCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The TYLER COLLEGE APACHES won their 2nd College World Series in the past 5 years last night by defeating the CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES. The Apaches and Dukes were tied at 1-1 in the 1st Inning before Tyler took a 3-2 lead in the 3rd. That grew to a 4-2 lead in the 4th Inning and 6-2 in the 6th with Cumberland County’s last hurrah coming off a lone run in the 8th. The Apaches went 4-0 in 2014 World Series play with this 6-3 victory. Tyler’s Jarrett Dooley pitched for the win. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE APACHES, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA-3 BASEBALL! * 

* NAIA *

okwesleyaneaglesDAY FIVE – GAME ONE – The action in the NAIA started off with an ELEVEN INNING grudge match between the 3rd seeded OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES and the top seeded OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON. The Eagles swung their way to a 2-0 lead in the 1st Inning but the Bison made it a 2-1 game by the 3rd before taking a 3-2 edge in the 5th. OWU tied it up at 3-3 in the 9th to send the game into extra Innings before the Eagles drove in a run in the 11th for the victory. Sam Haynes was the winning pitcher. 

lcsc_logo1DAY FIVE – GAME TWO – Another Instant Classic followed, this one featuring the 2nd seeded LEWIS- CLARK STATE WARRIORS taking on the Cinderella 10 seeds – the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. The Bulldogs got off to a 1-0 lead in the 1st but the Warriors tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd. Cumberland put up 1 run and then 3 runs, respectively, in the 3rd and 4th Innings for a 5-1 advantage. Lewis- Clark State had a huge 6th Inning with 4 runs batted in to make it a 5-5 tie. Another run by the Warriors in the bottom of the 9th gave them the 6-5 triumph. David Murillo of Lewis- Clark State was credited with the win.  

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Minnesota State Mavericks logoDAY FIVE – GAME ONE – The MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS and the SETON HILL UNIVERSITY GRIFFINS started the day in D2. The Griffins smashed in an early 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning and rode that all the way to the 4th, when the Mavericks took a 3-1 advantage. The game was a pitcher’s duel from there and when all was said and done Minnesota State won by that same 3-1 score. Pitcher Mathias Butala went all 9 Iron Man Innings for the victory.  

Tampa SpartansDAY FIVE – GAME TWO – The UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA SPARTANS – the defending champions of D2 baseball – did battle with the LANDER UNIVERSITY BEARCATS in Game Two. The Spartans were going for the jugular early and led 2-0 after 1 Inning and 5-2 after 2. The 4th Inning ended with the score 6-3 but only Tampa would score again, racking up another run in the 5th. The final tally was Spartans 7  Bearcats 3. Preston Packrall pitched for the Spartan win. 

* NJCAA DIV ONE *

Spartanburg Methodist College PioneersDAY FIVE – GAME ONE – Yesterday started off with an elimination game between the SPARTANBURG METHODIST COLLEGE PIONEERS and the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS. This clash saw the Pioneers thoroughly outclass the Buccaneers, who didn’t get on the scoreboard until they drove in 2 runs in the 6th Inning. Spartanburg Methodist College in the meantime notched 1 run each in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th Innings and FIVE in the 4th. The Pioneers survived with a 10-2 buttkicking of Blinn College. Pitcher C.D. Pelham threw for the win.  

Iowa Western ReiversDAY FIVE – GAME TWO – Ten was the magical number for the day in this division. That was also the winning total of runs in this second game, which pitted the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS against the MIAMI- DADE COLLEGE SHARKS. The storied Reivers shut out the Sharks while slamming in 1, 3, 4 and 2 runs, respectively, in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Innings. Iowa Western pitcher Sean Johnson went all the way for this 10-0 victory. 

* NJCAA DIV TWO *

Pasco Hernandez State ConquistadorsDAY FIVE – GAME ONE – The blowout theme continued through the first game of the day in NJCAA-2 baseball. The PASCO- HERNANDO STATE CONQUISTADORS were burning and pillaging the MERCER COUNTY COLLEGE VIKINGS to the tune of 9-0 by the end of the FIRST INNING! Mercer mustered 2 runs in the 2nd to make it a 10-2 game but the relentless Pasco Hernando State pulled ahead 11-2 in the 3rd. In the 5th Inning the Conquistadors ended the scoring by putting up 2 runs to the 1 brought in by the Vikings. Pasco Hernando State moves on following this 13-3 elimination game, courtesy of Jack Hamrick’s pitching.  

Hinds College Eagles logoDAY FIVE – GAME TWO – A true game for the ages brought the action to a close yesterday. The MADISON COLLEGE WOLFPACK and the HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES grappled for THIRTEEN INNINGS before a victor was decided. Ironically the Eagles led 6-0 after the 1st Inning but would only score 1 more run in regulation. The Wolfpack, meanwhile, kept pulling closer with 2 runs each in the 3rd and 4th Innings and 1 in the 6th. To the roar of their fans Madison College actually took a 7-6 lead in the 7th but Hinds College tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the 9th. In the 13th Inning the Eagles recorded another run for an 8-7 win. Hinds used 6 pitchers, with Austin Sanders getting credit for the win.
