CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS made college sports history yesterday! By winning the 2014 College World Series in NCAA Division 3 the Warhawks became the only sports program to win their division’s football, basketball AND baseball titles in one academic year! Whitewater pitcher Scott Plaza threw a 9 Inning shutout while his teammates’ bats tore up the EMORY UNIVERSITY EAGLES for a 7-0 win! * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WARHAWKS, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF D3 BASEBALL!*

DAY FOUR – GAME ONE – The 2nd seeded LEWIS- CLARK STATE WARRIORS took on the 4th seeded defending champions of NAIA baseball – the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES – in an elimination game. With 2 runs and then 3 runs the Warriors had compiled a 5-0 lead by the 2nd Inning of play! They kept the Eagles off the scoreboard while adding another run in the 6th Inning for a 6-0 shutout. Lewis- Clark State’s Steve Thompson pitched for the win!
DAY FOUR – GAME TWO – Next came a TWELVE INNING affair between the 3rd seeded OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES and the 9 seeds – the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS. The Blue Jays led 2-1 in the 1st Inning, then 3-1 in the 3rd before a big 4th Inning from the Eagles gave them a 6-3 lead. Tabor made it a 6-5 game by the 7th, then in the 8th outscored OWU 4-3 to tie the game at 9-9. That remained the tally until the Eagles drove in a run in the bottom of the 12th for a 10-9 victory. The win went to Rhett Acker.
DAY FOUR – GAME THREE – The 10th seeded Cinderellas – the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS – are still the talk of the country! Yesterday they battled the top seeded OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON and after 3 Innings the Bulldogs led 3-2. After that they began inching away from the Bison, leading 4-2 after the 4th and 5-2 after the 5th before OBU made it a 5-5 tie in the top of the 6th Inning. Cumberland then exploded in the bottom of the 6th for a 10-5 advantage. From there the Bulldogs added 3 more in the 8th for a final score of THIRTEEN to FIVE! Kevin Greene got credit for this nation- shaking victory!

DAY FOUR – GAME ONE – The COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS opened the day against the SETON HILL UNIVERSITY GRIFFINS. The first 3 Innings were scoreless before the Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the 4th. That became a 4-1 lead in the 5th followed by 2 more scoreless Innings. Colorado Mesa added 2 more runs in the 8th Inning to the 1 smacked in by the Griffins, setting up the final tally of 6-2. Kyle Davis was the winning pitcher.
DAY FOUR – GAME TWO – Yesterday was “Maverick Day” in D2 baseball. In this second game of the day the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS faced the SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE SPARTANS. The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning but the Spartans tied it up at 1-1 in the 4th. That wound up being Aquinas College’s only run as it turned out. Minnesota State on the other hand added 1, 2 and 2 runs in the 5th, 6th and 8th Innings for a 6-1 triumph. Bryce Bellin threw for 9 Iron Man Innings and the win.

DAY FOUR – GAME ONE – An elimination game between the SPARTANBURG METHODIST COLLEGE PIONEERS and the CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COLLEGE PIRATES started Day Four in this division. The Pirates actually led 2-0 after the 1st Inning before the Pioneers said “enough of this” and notched 9 runs in the 2nd, 8 in the 3rd and another 1 in the 4th. Chattahoochee Valley mustered just 1 more run of their own, so Spartanburg Methodist won in an EIGHTEEN to THREE massacre. Kyle Halhbon pitched for the Pioneers.
DAY FOUR – GAME TWO – Another elimination game followed. This one pitted the MIDLAND COLLEGE CHAPARRALS against the COLUMBIA STATE CHARGERS. The Chaparrals were all offense early as they seized a 5-0 lead in the 1st Inning. That became 7-3 in the 2nd and 9-3 in the 3rd. Midland College scored just 1 more run the rest of the way with the Chargers trying to pull even. In the end the final score was Chaparrals 10 Chargers 7. Thomas McIlraith got the victory for Midland.
DAY FOUR – GAME THREE – The MIAMI- DADE COLLEGE SHARKS clashed with the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS to close out the day in NJCAA1. This game was a Jaws– style domination by the Sharks, who led 7-1 by the 2nd Inning and 9-2 by the 6th. Miami- Dade College slammed in 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th for an ELEVEN to TWO final score. Sharks pitcher Marcus Barrios picked up the win.

DAY FOUR – GAME ONE – The MERCER COUNTY COLLEGE VIKINGS and the VINCENNES UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS met in a fight for survival to start Day Four. The Trailblazers started out by leading the Vikings 1-0 in the 1st Inning and 2-1 in the 3rd. From there Mercer closed down the Vincennes bats while adding 2 more runs each in the 4th and 6th for a 5-2 victory. The winning pitcher in this game was Ben Stine.
DAY FOUR – GAME TWO – An elimination game between the MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS and the SOUTHEASTERN (IA) COLLEGE BLACKHAWKS came next. A 1-0 Thunderbird lead in the 1st Inning was countered by a 2-1 lead for the Blackhawks in the 2nd. Mesa College went back on top 3-2 in the 4th but Southeastern made it a 3-3 tie in the 5th Inning. The score stayed there until the Thunderbirds drove in 2 runs in the 8th Inning and 2 in the 9th for an 8-3 triumph. Nick Schuman recorded the win.
DAY FOUR – GAME THREE – This final game of the day in this division pitted the PASCO HERNANDO STATE CONQUISTADORS against the HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES. The Conquistadors got off to a 2-1 1st Inning lead but Hinds tied it at 2-2 in the 2nd before taking a 4-2 lead in the 5th. After 6 Innings the Eagles led 5-3 then scored every Inning the rest of the way for a 9-4 final tally. The victory went to Houston Case.

DAY FOUR – GAME ONE – The HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS and the WAUBONSEE COLLEGE CHIEFS played the day’s first elimination game. After 2 scoreless Innings the Generals took a 1-0 edge in the 3rd. The 4th Inning was all about offense with Herkimer College leading the Chiefs 6-3 when it was over. The Generals had another big Inning in the 6th, logging 5 more runs while Waubonsee College scored 6 runs in the 7th to make it an 11-9 game. Herkimer got 2 more runs in the 8th for a 13-9 victory. Michael DeCarlo pitched for the win.
DAY FOUR – GAME TWO – This was the final elimination game to see who would move on to face the waiting Tyler College for the championship. The CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES took the diamond against the victorious Generals from the previous game. Herkimer took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd Inning but the Dukes tied it at 3-3 in the 3rd, then led 6-3 after 5. After the 6th Inning it was a 7-4 score in favor of Cumberland County and the Generals managed just 1 more run in the 8th, giving the Dukes a 7-5 win. Cumberland County’s Chris Seibert got the “W”.
