COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

AMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE – Day Two of the AMC tourney yesterday saw the 6th seeded PARK UNIVERSITY PIRATES avoid elimination by inflicting that fate on the 7th seeded MID-CONTINENT UNIVERSITY COUGARS instead in a 6-1 spanking   ###   The 4th seeded FREED- HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS meanwhile eliminated the 8 seeds – the HANNIBAL- LAGRANGE TROJANS by a blowout score of 10-0   ###   The top seeded MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS shut out the 5th seeded BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY AT SPRINGFIELD BULLDOGS  5-0   ###   And in the 3 spot the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS upset the 2nd seeded LYON COLLEGE SCOTS by an unbelievable THIRTEEN TO FOUR!

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – On the first day of this conference’s tournament the 2nd seeded LSU- ALEXANDRIA GENERALS hammered the 5th seeded LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX into submission by a score of 10-3   ###   Meanwhile the top seeded GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES trounced the 6 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON AT VICTORIA JAGUARS to the tune of ELEVEN to ONE   ###   And in a 4 seed over 3 seed upset the FISHER COLLEGE FALCONS took down the CAL STATE- SAN MARCOS COUGARS in a 3-1 Instant Classic. 

GOLDEN STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – It was Day Two for the GSAC tourney and the 4th seeded WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS kept their upset mojo going by bringing down the 3 seeds – the VANGUARD UNIVERSITY LIONS in a 17-7 orgy of offense   ###   And in the only other game of the day in this tournament the top seeded SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN COLLEGE HAWKS said “who needs close games” and decimated those hapless VANGUARD UNIVERSITY LIONS 22-9. The Lions are eliminated.

GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 5th seeded DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS handed the 3rd seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS their first defeat of the tournament in a tight 10-8 nailbiter   ###   The 2nd seeded NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS eliminated the 8th seeded BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS by a football score of 24-8   ###   The 4th seeded MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS eliminated the 7 seeds – the MT MARTY COLLEGE LANCERS  18-10   ###   The (3) Warriors in turn elimated the (4) Mustangs 10-3   ###   And the (2) Red Raiders bounced the (5) Tigers  8-4.

HEART OF AMERICA ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The top seeded MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS edged the 4th seeded CULVER- STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS  6-5   ###   In the 3 spot the PERU STATE BOBCATS won a 3-1 nailbiter with the 2nd seeded EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS   ###   The 5th seeded BAKER (KS) WILDCATS eliminated the 8 seeds – the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS in a 5-3 classic of the diamond   ###   And the 6th seeded CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES sent the 7th seeded MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS home with a 7-0 rout.

KANSAS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 4th seeded BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES survived a 6-3 elimination game with the 5th seeded UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES   ###   Meanwhile the top seeded TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS manhandled the 3rd seeded FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS to the tune of 9-3   ###   And those (3) Falcons then went on to face the (4) Swedes in an elimination clash that saw Friends University clobber Bethany College TWENTY to SIX.

MIDLANDS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 2nd seeded BELLEVUE (NE) BRUINS had to run a gauntlet of TWO elimination games in one day yesterday. In the first one they bounced the 4th seeded CENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE MUSTANGS in a 15-5 laugher   ###   Then the Bruins eliminated the 5 seeds – the COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS – in a slightly less funny 11-5 outcome   ###   And the top seeded OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES defeated the 3rd seeded YORK COLLEGE PANTHERS by a score of 7-3.

RED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 5th seeded TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS managed a Day One upset of the 4th seeded WILEY COLLEGE WILDCATS in a 3-2 game for the ages   ###   Coming in in the top spot the LSU- SHREVEPORT PILOTS (riverboat pilots) then defeated those same Steers by a score of 9-6   ###   And the 3rd seeded BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS upset the 2nd seeded JARVIS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS in an explosive 15-12 affair.

SOONER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 5 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS – upset their Day One opponents the 4th seeded WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS in an impressive 5-0 shutout   ###   The 3rd seeded NORTHWOOD (TX) KNIGHTS managed a 4-0 shutout of the 6th seeded TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS.   ###   Meanwhile the 8th seeded MIDAMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS gave the top seeded OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON almost more than they could handle before falling to them in a 7-6 thriller   ###   And in the 2 spot the OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS likewise had trouble getting past the 7th seeded SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS in a 2-1 battle of brilliant pitching.  

SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – In an elimination game on this conference tournament’s third day the 2nd seeded BREWTON- PARKER COLLEGE BARONS crushed the 6th seeded MARTIN METHODIST REDHAWKS by a score of 8-2   ###   The top seeded defending national champions of NAIA baseball – the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES – bounced the 8th seeded AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY WARHAWKS (formerly the Senators) in a 6-0 shutout   ###   The 3rd seeded SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC RUNNING HORNETS then eliminated the (2) Barons in a nailbiting 11-9 outing   ###   And the 5th seeded BELHAVEN COLLEGE BLAZERS fell to the (1) Eagles in a very lopsided 11-3 game.

THE SUN CONFERENCE – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE came into Day One as the 2nd seed and won a 5-3 epic against the 5th seeded WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS   ###   Meanwhile the top seeded EMBRY- RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES (whom I still say should change their name to the Aeronauts) defeated the 6th seeded WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS  8-5   ###   And the 4th seeded SAINT THOMAS (FL) BOBCATS absolutely incinerated the 3rd seeded THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS in a 12-0 upset.

CAL PACIFIC CONFERENCE / CASCADE CONFERENCE COMBINE – On Day One the 5th seeded MENLO COLLEGE OAKS upset the 4th seeded COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES in a 9-5 action blockbuster   ###   The 3rd seeded CORBAN UNIVERSITY WARRIORS eked out a 2-1 upset win of their own over the 2nd seeded CONCORDIA (OR) CAVALIERS   ###   And the top seeded BRITISH COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY THUNDERBIRDS then took down the (5) Oaks in a 3-0 shutout.

FRONTIER CONFERENCE / NORTHSTAR CONFERENCE COMBINE – The 2nd seeded MAYVILLE STATE COMETS and the 5th seeded DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS played the closest game of Day One, a game the Comets won 7-6   ###   Meanwhile the top seeded UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES folded, spindled and mutilated the 6th seeded PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS  TWENTY to SEVEN   ###   And the 3 seeds – the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS – defeated the 4th seeded DAKOTA STATE TROJANS in an 8-7 thriller.

REGION 101 – The 4th seeded COCHISE COLLEGE APACHES not only upset the top seeded CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE VAQUEROS but they did it IN A SWEEP! The Apaches won the first game 3-1 and thus emboldened won Game Two by a blowout score of TEN to ONE.   ###   The 2nd seeded SOUTH MOUNTAIN COUGARS won their series with the 3rd seeded PIMA COLLEGE AZTECS by way of an 8-2 win, an 8-4 loss and a 7-2 win.  

REGION 201 – The 3rd seeded SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES managed an upset of their own over the 2nd seeded GATEWAY COLLEGE GECKOS. The Fighting Artichokes won a 10-0 spanking, lost a 4-1 thriller and then won another thriller 10-7.   ###   And the top seeded MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS swept the 4 seeds – the USU- COLLEGE OF EASTERN UTAH GOLDEN EAGLES by scores of 11-1 and 8-0.  

REGION 206 – CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES – For this Regional pennant the battle was between the HESSTON COLLEGE LARKS and the BROWN MACKIE COLLEGE LIONS. The Larks came out on top in this best of three series. Game One was taken by the Lions  5-3, but the Larks remained cool and won the next two games by scores of 6-4 and 5-3 in some of the most exciting baseball the Region had seen! Hesston College moves on to the District tourney. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LARKS! *
