D3 COLLEGE BASEBALL REGIONAL CHAMPS MOVE ON TO 2013 D3 WORLD SERIES

AUGUSTANA REGION – The top seeded WEBSTER UNIVERSITY GORLOKS returned to the D3 World Series with a 7-3 victory over the 4 seeds, the CONCORDIA (Chicago) COUGARS, in the regional title game. Along the way the Gorloks also defeated the 6th seeded RIPON COLLEGE RED HAWKS and the 3rd seeded AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (IL) VIKINGS.

CONCORDIA (TX) REGION – The LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS lived up to their top seeding, taking the regional championship with a 3-1 win over the 5th seeded Cinderella team the TRINITY (TX) TIGERS. The Wildcats had also taken down the 6th seeded TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS and the 4th seeded POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS enroute to this regional title.

EAST COAST REGION – Chalk won again as the top seeded UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE HUSKIES took this region’s crown. The Huskies accomplished that with two victories over the 3rd seeded ENDICOTT GULLS, by scores of 5-2 and an embarrasing 9-0. Other victims of USM were the 8th seeded DANIEL WEBSTER EAGLES and the 4 seeds, the WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS.

ITHACA REGION – If you predicted ANOTHER top seed winning the regional championship you were right! The ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS  advanced to the College World Series with a 4-2 victory over the 2nd seeded CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS. On their way to the regional title the Bombers also defeated the 8th seeded MORAVIAN GREYHOUNDS, the 4th seeded FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS and the 6th seeded AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS.

MISERICORDIA REGION – Yawn. Yet another 1 seed took it all. The KEAN UNIVERSITY COUGARS defeated the 2 seeds, the KEYSTONE COLLEGE GIANTS, by scores of 2-0 and 6-1 to win the region. In addition to the Giants the Cougars bounced the (8) PENN STATE UNIVERSITY-HARRISBURG NITTANY LIONS and the (4) ALVERNIA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS.

RHODES REGION – FINALLY! A non-one seed won a regional title in D3 this year! The 3rd seeded MILLSAPS COLLEGE MAJORS toppled the 2nd seeded SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEAGULLS in a 7-6 championship game thriller. To get to the title game the Majors took out the 4th seeded BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE EAGLES and the 6th seeded METHODIST UNIVERSITY MONARCHS.

ROSE-HULMAN REGION – The top seeded MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY SPARTANS won this region’s championship with an 8-5 triumph over the 2nd seeded defending champions of D3 baseball, the MARIETTA COLLEGE PIONEERS. Before ensuring there would be a new World Series champion this year the Spartans defeated the 8th seeded MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS and the 5th seeded WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS.

WHITEWATER REGION – The 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT POINTERS walked away with the crown for this region by winning a 1-0 pitcher’s duel with the 4th seeded CASE WESTERN RESERVE SPARTANS. Along the way the Pointers knocked around the (5) BENEDICTINE (IL) EAGLES, the (3) WHITEWATER WARHAWKS and the (6) SAINT SCHOLASTICA SAINTS. Congratulations to all these teams as they move on to the D3 College World Series!
