FIRST TICKET PUNCHED TO THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT – In the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowned its tournament champions yesterday! The POINT PARK UNIVERSITY PIONEERS lived up to their top seeding and took the KIAC title with their thrilling 8-6 victory over the 2nd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS. On their way to the championship the Pioneers also defeated Berea College and had earlier handed the Grenadiers their first loss in the KIAC tourney. College baseball uses a double-elimination format so it takes two losses to be sent packing. Point Park moves on to the National Tournament.
MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE – The 5th seeded RIO GRANDE RED STORM upset the 2 seeds, the GEORGETOWN (KY) TIGERS, eliminating them in a 6-2 outcome. Earlier in the day the Red Storm survived an elimination game themselves, sending the (7) ST CATHARINE PATRIOTS home with a 7-3 loss. ### Georgetown themselves had advanced to face Rio Grande after they eliminated the top seeded CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS by a score of 7-2. ### Far from that soap-opera madness the 3 seeds, the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS, remained perfect in the MSC tournament by handing the (4) CAMPBELLSVILLE TIGERS their first loss of the tourney. The final score in that rout was 9-1.
AMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE – The other game in the AMC tournament got postponed til Monday because of the weather. In the only game played yesterday in this conference tourney the 2nd seeded LYON COLLEGE SCOTS devastated the 5th seeded PARK UNIVERSITY PIRATES by a score of 11-2. The Pirates went the proverbial “0-2 and a barbecue” in the tournament, having already lost to (1) Benedictine-Springfield on Friday. The Scots will face B-S themselves on Monday.
RED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The top seeds, the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY (TX) KNIGHTS, had their hands full with the 6th seeded TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS, but in the end emerged with an 8-6 victory. ### The 2nd seeded BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS suffered an upset at the hands of the (5) JARVIS CHRISTIAN BULLDOGS in a 7-5 Instant Classic. ### And the (3) TEXAS WESLEYAN RAMS went to ten innings with the (4) LSU-SHREVEPORT PILOTS (riverboat pilots) before eking out an 8-7 win.
