After 2 days of rainouts the PHILADELPHIA BIBLICAL UNIVERSITY CRIMSON EAGLES (logo at left) finally got to play their East Regional game with the BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE DEFENDERS today at Noon ET. This matchup was worth the wait, as this Instant Classic saw the Crimson Eagles emerge with a very tight 5-4 victory. Send the tape of this game to Cooperstown as a prime example of the intensity of postseason baseball in the NCCAA.
Meanwhile, in the 2nd East Region game of the day the top-seeded LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE CHARGERS defeated the 4th- seeded VALLEY FORGE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE PATRIOTS in an equally intense game. The final score was 4-3 and the only thing keeping this matchup a little behind the Crimson Eagles/ Defenders clash was the fact that the difference in this game was an unearned run in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Chargers and the Crimson Eagles were ranked 6th and 7th, respectively, in Balladeer’s Blog’s final NCCAA poll of the regular season.
In the Midwest Region the elimination game between the LINCOLN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY RED LIONS and the MARANATHA CRUSADERS went to the Crusaders 4-3. The game went into the 9th inning tied up at 3-3 when a bases-loaded walk sent home the winning run for Maranatha.
In the Regional Championship game that followed the NORTH CENTRAL UNIVERSITY RAMS defeated those same Crusaders in a 3-0 shutout. The Rams, who were ranked 4th in Balladeer’s Blog’s final regular season poll, are the Midwest Region Champions for 2012 and secured a spot in the NCCAA World Series.
Back at the East Regional Tournament the victors of the semi-finals, the PBU Crimson Eagles and the LBC Chargers squared off in a rematch of last year’s East Region title game. The Chargers won this time around, by a score of 9-5. The Crimson Eagles threatened late by loading the bases, but left every man stranded as the LBC pitching held firm. The Chargers join North Central in getting their ticket punched for the NCCAA World Series.
