COLLEGE HOCKEY TOP 11

Time for a look at the Top 11 teams so far in Division 3 hockey. Since I like being an oddball I’m doing 11 teams instead of the more traditional Top 10. For newbies to college hockey let me point out there is no Division 2 hockey for me to cover. There are so comparatively few colleges that still sponsor hockey that schools that are considered D2 in other sports are all lumped into Division 1 when it comes to hockey. The North Dakota Fighting Sioux used to be the best example of that but since they are now in D1 for all sports I’ll use the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs to demonstrate the point. They’re D2 in football, basketball, etc but are D1 for hockey. And yes, all of this means that hockey has a Division 1 and a Division 3 but no Division 2. Just throw it in there with the way the Big Ten Conference now has 12 teams and the Big 12 Conference now has 10 teams and move on. Think of it as the New Math, or something.

1. OSWEGO STATE LAKERS – Record: 15-2-0   No matter what the level and no matter what sport it seems there’s a team or two called the Lakers who really kick butt. Oswego State is on a 3-game winning streak right now with yesterday’s 3-0 win over the Curry Colonels. The Lakers don’t take the ice again until January 21st when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Buffalo State Bengals. The next stop on their road trip will be the very next day when they “Hail, Continue reading

GERALD FORD RETURNS FROM THE DEAD TO COACH THE MICHIGAN WOLVERINES

The Michigan Wolverines football program, still mindlessly clinging to the late Bo Schembechler‘s words about having a Michigan man coach Michigan, have followed that outdated thinking to its logical conclusion and have raised ex-president and former Wolverines player Gerald Ford from the dead to be the team’s new coach. This after the team failed to land former Michigan player and new San Francisco 49’ers coach Jim Harbaugh as the replacement for outgoing coach Rich Rodriguez. Nobody denies that Rodriguez struggled but he certainly seemed to be turning things around, getting Continue reading

CACTUS BOWL KICKS OFF AT 7PM

The 2011 Cactus Bowl, the all-star game for NCAA Division 2 football, will be kicking off at 7PM Central Time. The game features 88 D2 senior standouts divided into two 44-man rosters (I advocated dividing them into eleven 8-man rosters but got shouted down) and is a great chance for D2 players who may well end up on NFL rosters to showcase themselves once more in a live game format. THE BRETT FAVRE GUIDE TO DATING

Renaissance Man Brett Favre has many talents. He can hold teams hostage with his childish whims and his egomaniacal craving for flattery and cajoling… he can set new standards in the art of throwing interceptions even when you think his best years are behind him in that art form … he can get coaches fired with his prima donna antics even though his former teams the Packers and the Jets are in the playoffs and Bawlin’ Brett is stuck at home watching … but most especially Brett Favre can disgust and revolt women like nobody else can with his inimitable combination of moronic come- on lines and allegedly with his sophomorically suggestive text messages.  Yes, while many athletes get into trouble over their bedroom successes with the opposite sex the Ollll’ Interception Machine has gained notoriety for Continue reading

LSU- SHREVEPORT PILOTS – (As in riverboat pilots) MEN – The men are scorching hot right now and are ranked 2nd in the NAIA‘s First Division, right behind the Robert Morris (IL) Eagles in the top spot. They next see action against Wiley College tonight.    WOMEN – The women are struggling at 5-8 right now and have dropped their last three in a row, not counting an exhibition loss to NCAA Division 1’s Northwestern State Demons.
